Not able to trace the application in OCI site - NY
Update: VFS updated saying Embassy is closed and will be able to provide an update only after Embassy reopens. Is Embassy closed for pandemic now? I am not able to find information online.
11/28 - Mailed docs to VFS through FedEx
After one follow-up with VFS, they located my file and acknowledged
12/11 - Received acknowledgment saying "my file is forwarded to embassy"
no update since then...I am worried
- Called VFS 3 times and spent approx $40 just by calling them. They just read the same status which I can see in their website
- Submitted query in embassy site, got a response saying "the application is not reached embassy and they can't answer without receiving an application"
- Called embassy and someone called me back and said they can't answer and I need to submit query in embassy site.
Not sure to whom I can escalated and I am really really worried.
This is for OCI Misc service to issue new card for getting new USA passport for minor.
Any suggestions pls

12/18 - Mailed docs to VFS through FedEx
12/21 - VFS received the application
12/22 - VFS acknowledged the application
12/23 - VFS processed and sent the application to Houston Embassy
12/24 - Embassy acknowledged the application and under process. US Passport picked up FedEx using VFS return label
12/28 - US Passport delivered through FedEx
1/26 - OCI Printed
1/28 - OCI dispatched and received at Houston. VFS status - Your application has been dispatched from Embassy.
1/29 - Your application has been received at VFS Centre from Embassy. Your application has been dispatched via courier( using UPS Return mail which I sent)
2/1 - OCI delivered through UPS
12/21 - VFS received the application
12/22 - VFS acknowledged the application
12/23 - VFS processed and sent the application to Houston Embassy

Jan 29: Status appeared in OCI Govt of India website once it reached Consulate.
Feb 2: Received passport. The Tracking number was completely different than what was on the courier label downloaded before submission.
Mar 08: Still under process.
Mar 12: OCI Approved.
I don't know why they change the tracking number and why ask us to send the courier label if they have to change the tracking number. After reaching out to VFS via Twitter DM, they sent another tracking number that was probably 25 number long but still showed the same tracking information. Although I paid $5.00 for SMS service, I did not receive any notification for the passport being dispatched.
Will post the timeline as I receive further updates.

Package delivered tracking on - 01/15/2021.
No Acknowledgement on Application received till today(01-Feb-2021)

I have applied for an OCI card based on my wife's Indian origin.
My application was Acknowledged at CGI NY on December 1st, 2020.
After two months of wait, I am asked to choose a date for an in-person interview.
Does anyone know If I am allowed to attend an interview in Washington instead of New York?

how long does it take to get to SFO embassy from India? and also how long sfo is taking to get it to VFS and how long vfs is taking to send to it you?

- Jan 8 : Documents sent to VFS via Fedex
- Tried following up on the VFS tracking website, "invalid inputs"; The Indian Govt Ref # is the Ref number to use - they don't tell you that anywhere until later
- Jan 18 : First phone call to VFS call center to follow up on status. VFS promised escalation to their NY team.
- A series of not very meaningful email exchanges with VFS
- Jan 25 : Second phone call to VFS call center to follow up on status. VFS promised a second escalation to the team in NY.
- Jan 26 : Received SMS confirmation acknowledgment
- Jan 27 : Received US passport post verification (via Fedex return label)
Status on the VFS website now says documents sent to embassy. Get the feeling the timeline really starts from the time VFS says they sent documents over to embassy.
