Parents B2 Visa approved
I am on L1 from 18 months. Parents applied for B2 visa to visit me. I did sponsor by sending all documents as per Immihelp from here. Scanned print outs are sufficient to be carried by parents.
Father is retired government employee and gets pension. Apart from this, nothing he carried as he did not have any property in his name. Mother is house wife. Both are having highest proof of qualification as secondary school. I am the only kid for them. No siblings.
Visa language opted was Kannada, though they both can manage english preferred Kannada to avoid accent problems.
Consulate location was Chennai. OFC was at 3pm first day. Interview at 10AM second day. Interview experience as told by them:
Parents wished both interviewer and translator. They both wished them back and were looking happy.

I am on H1 B visa and i am filing tourist visa B2 for my parents.
I got question in Work and education section.
My father is 62 years and he is working as an electrician by profession.
What should I select in Primary Occupation ?
I tried choosing Other as option, It was asking me to enter present employer or school name. What should I enter? shall i enter as "Self employed" and address as Home address?
what should I enter in monthly income? There is no constant income for my father. Income will vary month to month. What should be the decent amount to enter there? Will the visa officer ask for him income proof. My dad is working as electrician as labor based. So he do not pay any tax and there is no proof of income.
im from egypt..i have my b2 visa interview after 2 day..when i filled the application online i wasnt employed so i chose unemployed in the occupation..bugt i got hired before the interview..i have a letter from my employer..should i create a new application and cancel this interview and reschedual a new one..or should i go to the interview and explain the case to the counsler?
I am thankful to immihelp for helping in my DS160 preparation and for the visa interview.
There are lot of posts here regarding experiences in India. Majority of the experiences is for parents. Our visa interview was with Abu Dhabi embassy.
Our family (me below 40 years, my wife and my daughter) interview was scheduled on 29 Jan 2015. We were self-sponsored and had invitation from my brother-in-law. We are planning for summer vacation in USA.
Few points which can be useful to those applying from Abu Dhabi
1. Finger printing is done on the same day as that of visa interview.
2. No separate appointment for the same.
3. We did not book our flight tickets. We did not go through tour operators.
4. Process is well organized and it takes 4 hours to complete.
5. Parking is available opposite to embassy and it is bit crowded during morning.
6. No bags are allowed. Mobiles and car key with auto lock to be deposited.
7. No surname for south Indians
In passport Surname :
Given name: YYYY YYYY
In DS160 write Surname: YYYY YYYY
First name: FNU
After security screening at security office, applicants are allowed in batches to the embassy. After entering embassy our passport details are checked and finger printing is completed. No other supporting documents are checked.
Visa interview is conducted in counter located in the waiting room. We could hear the questions asked and there were quite a few refusals as well. One of the VOs (a lady) was a bit strict with questions and was asking documents. We were praying not to get her. To our luck we got this VO. She had refused for 3 just before us.
We: Good Afternoon.
VO: Good Afternoon. Passports please.
VO: How long you are there in UAE?
Me: X years.
VO: Are you both parents for this young lady?
We: Yes.
VO: Why are you going to US?
Me: We are going for tourism.
VO: Where are you going?
Me: Detroit, Chicago, Niagara falls, New York, Washington.
(Most of the time she was typing and checking in her computer. Not much eye to eye contact)
VO: Do you have relative there?
Me: My brother-in-law is there.
VO: (to my wife) Where is your sister there?
My wife: No madam, my brother. He is in XX place, Michigan.
VO: Michigan.
VO: Where are you working?
Me: Working as xxx for xx company.
VO: xx company.
VO: What is your salary?
Me: YYYY dirhams.
VO: How old is this young lady.
My wife: She will be X this March.
VO: She is quite tall.
My wife: Yes madam.
VO: Does she have cousins there?
My wife: Yes.
Me: Two of them.
VO: She’s going to have a nice time there.
(we are smiling inside)
VO: (to my wife) Have done your Masters?
(I had mentioned only about her BE degree. I prepared the form for her)
My wife: Yes. I have done my MBA.
VO: Masters?
My wife: Yes.
VO: That’s what I am trying to figure it out
(I am worried as something mentioned without DS160 backup)
VO: (to me) Have you done your Masters?
Me: No. I have done bachelor’s from YYYY institute.
After this the VO was looking at her computer and took the passports in her hand. (confused what is this !).
I am APPROVING all of you. You will get an email from us in 2-3 days about passport collection. She gave us a white slip which mentioned the same and kept the passports with her. We said Thank you and left.
VO did not ask for any of the supporting documents. We were prepared with Salary certificate, Bank statement for 6 months, Marriage certificate, Birth certificate, Degree certificate, Invitation letter from my brother-in-law, my brother-in-law’s identification documents & address proof.
Checked status in CEAC site same day. It was showing Administrative processing (AP). Next day mine and my daughter’s changed to ISSUED in the afternoon. My wife’s still AP. Hers changed after one more day to ISSUED. We all got 10 year multiple entry B1/B2 visa.
Hi, I'm in H1 and working since 3 months. My husband is also in H1. His visa transfer is in progress. So, I would like to sponsor for my in-laws. Will it be a issue, if I sponsor for my in-laws without any of his documentation?
Good afternoon! I'm a 28yrs old woman. Filipina, working in Dubai as an Assistant. My pay isn't that big, but I won a singing competition which gave out 20,000 Dhs. I deposited half of it on my account in the Philippines (which I cannot withdraw until I return back there), and half of it will be spent on my planned trip. I'm planning to visit my cousins in Hawaii, and planning to do a little tour around the island. My uncle will be providing me with a place to stay. I'm planning to see Pearl Harbor, Missouri Memorial, Waikiki Beach.. and if possible see the Flowing Lave from a helicopter ride and do a rainforest and waterfall hiking. I have a 7yrs old son in the Philippines, and my whole family is there (My mom, sister and 84yrs old father). What are my chances to be granted a B2 Visa? If there's anyone, please help. Thanks a bunch.
My experience happened today and I'm very distraught over the whole thing. What started as a good process until the interview.
I attended an interview today at the Dublin Embassy for a B2 visa but was denied the visa.
The issue was, I recently came back from the states as I was there for moral support for my friend and her son who where going through a difficult period, explained at the border control who allowed me entry. I applied in the states for the B2 so I could return home and go back and be with her longer to continue support her through this. As I was leaving the states my friend’s mother had a stroke (hospital records can confirm this) and my friend really needed my support more than ever. With the original return on the B2 my friend would also be financially supporting me, we already have all the documents to prove this.
When I explained this at the interview the woman believed I was attempting to get a visa close to a work visa which is not the case at all, in fact I don’t even know where that came from. She was under the impression I would be an in house carer for the mother as she was as the lady said paying my way, which I did not like how it was said. The mother doesn’t even live with my friend at all, all of this can be proved with separate addresses including hospital records to prove the mother was taken in for a stroke.
I tried to inform her that my friends mother doesn’t even live with my friend, but she was convinced that would be the reason why my friend was supporting me, which I wasn’t impressed by. Now I am also denied the VWP which means I cannot even return to visit the mother if god forbid something where to happen to her, I cannot even visit now, which is very wrong.
The woman then asked because my friend was sponsoring me if I had a job, which I informed her I don’t as it was contract based and completed in October just as I visited my friend. But then the case was closed, she got her reason to knock it down. The reason she chose to use was “Section 214(b) You have not demonstrated that you have sufficiently strong family, social and/or economic ties to your place of residence to ensure that your projected stay in the United States will be temporary.” I tried to explain I have a home here with family and friends but it was already closed, she wouldn’t even look at the documents I brought along.
My friend is really going through a bad time, she doesn’t have friends who live near by, and I just want to be there for her.
I was in the states from October 2014 to January 2015 and came back for the interview, surely that proves I don’t want to stay there illegally? From what I read online with regards to Section 214(b) the intent and fear would be I would stay illegally, I was already over there, I could have just stayed over there if that was the case, but it wasn’t I came back to do the right thing and now I can’t even return on the VWP, this logic was clearly lost in the interview.
I would like to know where I can file a complaint as I felt I was singled out. Everyone before me got approved without even explanations, then I was grilled and clearly the woman didn’t listen as I had to repeat what I said numerous times to which she wrote down the wrong information and had to change it and then made a decision on bad information. I’m here trying to go the correct route and got penalized for it. I am disgusted by the overall process, from what I read online people are recommending others not to go through the B2 route as it then ruins your chance of returning on the VWP and I would have to agree, I don’t think I will be advising others to do so. Not from what I am reading I cannot even return on the VWP? So if you are reading this “DO NOT APPLY FOR A B2, IF YOU ARE DENIED FOR ANY REASON, YOU ARE THEN SCREWED”
I’m hoping that either the B2 denial can be overturned or that I can return on the VWP to be there for her as she's not in the best place at all, depression isn’t the greatest thing to deal with alone. Plus as I said if god forbid something happened to the mother am I now not allowed to visit? Please advise if there is a chance I’m allowed to return as she truly needs my support right now, more than ever.
Student visa rejected. What are his chances of getting B2 VISA? (WIFE PR HOLDER)
I am a permanent resident (Green Card). My husband (32 years) applied for a student visa day before we got married and was rejected. Consular officer refer him to student visa specialist (volunteer) in Sri Lanka. Visa specialist told him he has a small chance of getting a student visa for undergraduate degree since he is over 25. She also told him to pass TOEFL instead of using two years of English studies to full fill English requirement. My mother was his financial sponsor. Next day we register our marriage (mid October 2014). In November I filed I-130 for him. We planned to have our wedding in April and I am graduating in May 2015 for Masters. I want him to apply for a tourist visa to attend graduation. I will be sponsoring him financially. What are his chances of getting tourist visa to attend graduation?
