MIL got Visa today - Mar 16th 2006 - Chennai Consulate
Hi All,

My MIL has got visitor visa today (March 16th) at Chennai Consulate. We do not know the duration of visa yet. She took tamil appointment and she had interview at 9:15 AM. But she went inside the consulate around 8:30 AM and came back around 2 PM. There were lots of people it seems.

Here is some background abt our case - My MIL is a widow and my husband is the only son and she has 2 daughters who stays in India. We prepared all the documents according to the website. Thanks to everyone.

Questions asked to her -

1) Why is your husband not accompanying you?
He is no more.
2) Do you have a son?
Yes
3) Do you have any other kids?
Yes, 2 daughters
4) Where are they?
Chennai
5) Where are you staying?
Chennai
6) With whom are you staying?
She said that her mom lives with her.
7) When you are away, will your daughters come and stay with your mom?
She said that my daughters cannot come so I will leave my mom with my daughters.
8) What is your income?
Rs.XX,ZZZ
9) How do you get that income?
She said it is from pension and rental income.
10) Who bought all those rental properties? (May be they want to check whether it was all my husband's properties)
She said that her husband was an engineer and he bought all those properties.
11) Who sponsors your visa?
She said that her son is the sponsor.

In between, the lady asked for the documents and she had gone through each and every document in both the files. We had prepared 2 files for Visitor docs and Sponsor docs and we pasted post-its with names on it.

And finally they said that she got the visa and she can pay the fees.

Thanks to everyone. This site is really very useful and helpful. I was very tensed as my MIL is single. And one good thing is, we are not in any urgency, so we asked her to stay cool and mentioned to her that she can apply any number of times if she is not getting now. I think the documents and her confidence really helped in this case.

Good luck to all.

I will let you all know the duration once she gets the passport.

Regards,
Swetha

Visitor Visa B2 rejected
My wife got the appoint for visit visa.Even after showing all the docs required by the consulate officer and after giving the proper explanation to subtantiate that her presense is very much required back home,it got rejected.
The only reason to go is to spend sometime with their famlily people.

The stand taken by the concerned officer is unfair and no reasons.Just becos he wanted to reject it he has done it.Everytime paying the application fee is unjustifiable.Atleast the embassy should give 3 chances for the applicant to prove themselves. It is not a small money in India. Will the authorities look into it?

Mom's visa got rejected
Hi all, my Mother's visa was rejected at the chennai consulate sterday,on the basis that both me and my sister live here in US.
Questions asked were:
1. how many children do you have?
two.
2. what do they do?
one housewife, the other studying.
3. Where is she studying?
in US at YYYY XX Univ.
4. how long are you planning to stay in the US?
6 months
5. do you think you will get back in 6 months?
yes ofcourse( and my mom showed him my Dad's employment letter).
this is all she was asked and the VO told her that, he doesn't think that she will get back in 6 months and hence refused her a visa. He did not even care to see any of the other supporting docs that we sent.
I really dont understand why he has mistaken my mother to be a potential immigrant. whereas she has also told the VO that my dad is working in India and has to get back on time and cannot stay for long....It is really hurting when genuine ppl with no intention of immigrating and apply for a visitor visa being refused one. pls do share any solutions/thoughts to relating issues as this one. it is highly appreciated.

SR.

parents' visa got rejected twice
The first time my parents went for interview, the consulate told them that they need to bring more documents regarding my current status in the U.S. At the time I was still waiting for greencard, so I sent them all the letters I received from INS to prove that my greencard is pending. And the first time, my husband wrote the invitation letter saying that he invites my parents to come to the U.S to visit his family and our new born baby.

The second time when they went back for interview, I wrote a invitation letter to my parents saying that I would like them to visit us and my husband's family.
here are the questions they asked my parents:
Q1. how many children do u have?
Answer: just one child
Q2. How long has your daughter lived in the U.S?
Answer: 10 years
Q3. How much do you make?
Answer: $2000 yuan
Q4. What does your daugher do?
Answer: health insurance.
Q5. What's the purpose of your trip to the U.S?
Answer: to visit my daughter, son-in-law and his family.
Q6. Why the purpose of the trip in the second invitation letter is different than the first invitation letter.

Then their visa got rejected because insufficent evidence to prove that they are going back to China.

Can anyone give me some suggestions that what should my parents do? Shall I or my husband write invitation letter to my parents?

Thank u.

My Parents got 10 Years Multiple Entry visa in 1st Attempt @ Mumbai

This site helped us a lot in my parent’s visa preparation. Thanks for excellent information provided. Here is our experience. Hope it will help you.

I am sure luck has played a major role here though I would not discount the role of the well prepared document.

I would suggest all the applicants to keep all the paperwork done to the best of their knowledge and leave nothing to chance.

We have prepared all the documents as mentioned on this site and prepared three files (one for sponsor documents, one for Papa’s documents and one for Mummy’s Documents) and keep all the documents with considering the importance of documents in sequence. At the first page of each file we put Index and at papa’s file we make covering letter highlighted the reason of visit and families ties which will take him back. I took their mock interview 3-4 times so they got confident for interview.

We filled DS-156 & DS-157 online. My parent’s interview was held on 17th Feb at 10:30 AM but when we reached at VFS Office we were informed that they were running behind the schedule so we should wait at VFS waiting room. My parents were informed about 12:30 PM to go for interview. About 12:45 they entered in the Consulate office. Before going to Interview we took Rs.100 difference Demand Draft of Visa Issuance Fee due to change of dollar’s rate. When my parents entered in the hall they demanded white background photos because when we submitted DS-156 earlier, in the papa’s form the photo is slide blue background. We already had 2 extra photos with white background so we gave it to them. After that they scanned the photo and give yellow envelope. After 1 hour my parents went for finger print and after that they were waiting for interview. After 1 Hour their names were announced. The interview was taken by 45 years young American lady. My parents also took Gujarati Interpreter.

The lady consulate ask following questions

Q : What r u doing ?
A : I am serving at xxx as a xxx

Q : What is your monthly salary ?
A : More than Rs. xxx

Q : How long you want to stay ?
A : Not more than 6 months.

Q : How many daughter you have ?
A : I have two daughter. Elder daughter is staying in Ahmedabad and younger daughter staying in USA

Q : When you are retired ?
A : on 30th April, 2006

Q : Why you want to go and what you will do ?
A : I want to celebrate 58th Birthday with my daughter in USA (replied in Gujarati)

At this questions lady ask to translator what he said, then he inform in English

At this question she smile and said we gave you visa.

All the question were asked to only my father and not a single to my mom and they even not check neither sponsor documents nor visitor’s documents

Thanks to immihelp website
Wish everyone Best of Luck

Error Creating New App on VISA Website
I am also facing the same issue while trying to create a new application on the vfs website.

Throws the error "Input String is not in the correct format"

Maan ... This new VISA appointment system by VFS is too much and is just testing the patience level of all of us.
