In-laws got 10 yrs visa - Second attempt
My in-laws got 10 yrs multiple entry visa from Mumbai consulate on 6th Apr. Last time their visa was rejected under 214b section 4 months back.

We got the senator letter this time and I think that has helped the case though one can never confirm.

Senator office was only willing to talk to us as we were doing a second attempt and the visa was rejected last time.

Our rejection last time was a big surprise as my in-laws have 6 out of 7 childrens in India. My wife is their only child in US. 2 of thier sons in India are studying and dependent on them.

This time we did a few changes in documentation.
1) Reduced the requested stay period to 2 months.
2) Changed the reason for visit as "Visit daughter and tourism"( Last time it was mentioned Tourism and visit daughter, the reverse way)
3) Got the house evaluted by Civil Engineer.
4) Got the jewelry certificate from govt certified evaluator.
5) Produced Education Id cards for their sons
6) Produced birth certificate for all childrens
7) Got Financial asset summary letter from CA
8) Most important got the Senator letter.

After the rejection last time, we took a fresh appointment. We thought over what else can be produce for the next one.Got these new documents.

After collecting all the document , I met the Senator and explained them the case. They were too surprised by the rejection but suggested less property documents could be the reason for rejection. They faxed all our document to the consulate and got a response from them in just 2 days. Though the response did not say much except mentioned the 214b thing and suggested to schdule next appointment.

This times interview.
When My in-laws went to the window this time, the consulate went back for 10 mins and was checking something on the computer.I guess they were reading the correspondence from senator and the supporting documents they had faxed.

After 10 minutes the CO came to the window, apologized for making them wait.My in-laws requested them to read the file but they said not needed and started the interview. They asked many but simple expected questions. They did not see any file or documents from my in-laws
1) Are you only going for 2 months?
2) Are you going to visit your duaghter?
3) Are 6 out of 7 childrens in India?
4) What does your SIL does?
5) What did you do befire retirement?
6) How many grandchildrens do you have?
7) Are your sons in India unmarried yet?

After this , they said we are granting you visa but make sure you guys do not overstay as it would create problems to your duaghter and SIL.

Fathe got visa
Many Many Thanx for the members of this site and also the viewers who post experiences.. Its a blessing to have a wonderful site with so many active participants
My Father went for his visa in Mumbai and he got through
He was rejected thrice earlier, Thanx to this site and lot of prep helped him this time.
All Q's were the same as expected nothing Different
But we can give some advice that would be helpful to people.
1. Make sure you go thro ur papers 10 times. Be very sure to pick the right one at the right time.
2. Speak the truth, it helps in showing confidence
3. Show interest in answering (rather then getting the visa.. )
4. BE consistent with DS forms, letters and ur words
5. Be very accurate with figures..(salary, income, tax, balance sheet etc..) -- [all applicant's]
6. You may not get a 2nd chance to justify so, 1st time be correct with all q's (prep that well)
7. go early and you may get a chance early.
8. Take it easy and give ur best with full confidence
9. Lot of times translators help... (they at least look at what u have)
10. Carry FAMILY PHOTOS and produce at the right time..!! (this helped my father very much)
11. If both parents are rejected many times, try applying seperatly - Mother 1st and father 2nd. Mothers usually get thro'
Fathers prepare verywell..
thankyou to all
And most of all PRAY!!

Wish all of you good luck

hello all,
my inlaws got 10 yrs visiting visa on March 17 th . we r really very thankful to this site for providing the detailed info. we r so tensed about their visa but after it it was a great pain relief to us.
we took the appointment for them in telugu. and the interview was going like this:
Q:who is sponsoring for your trip?
Q:how many sons do u have?
Q: how many sons r there in US?
Q: what is your other sons doing?
Q: do u have grand children over here(in india)?
Q: do your son who is in US have any children?
Q: before retirement, what was your profession?
Q: may i see your son's documents?
Q: where is your son living in US?
A: my father in law told him that he is living in philadelphia.but while looking at documents, he tried to confuse my father in law by saying that no, these documents showing that he is living in california . but my father in law confidently answered him that no no he is there in philadelphia only. then he gave a smile and he told them to pay the fee at the next counter.

my best suggestion to everyone is , prepare your parents or inlaws well by taking interviews yourself so that they couldn't confuse at their interview time and send the documents which r required in a perfect way. i wrote down all the questions which they ask to so many people by reading the experiences which they given in this site and my husband took the interview to them before leaving to chennai.
don't worry all, everything will be alright to u.
i wish u all the best
uma n sagar

In-laws visitor visa rejected
My in-laws Visitor visa denied last week at Chennai because the lady who interviewed them thought that they did not convince her they are coming back to India!

One of the questions she asked was, who is my previous employer. I don't understand why in-laws need to know the whole employment history of the sponsor.

My FIL is an elected (by people) person and even if the USA government request him to stay here, he won't do that. He cannot stay outside India for more than 3 contineous months. This visa process is one of the classic examples of USA having double standards. She didn't even look at in-laws side papers. The whole process seems to be a big joke where genuine people with genuine papers denied visa.

We are planning to go again soon in coming weeks.
Thanks for putting all the resources together.

ORB.

Visitor Visa- Entry Denied
I am a permanent resident and I invited my brother to visit me and he got a visitor visa for 10 years. I had to leave two days prior to his arrival for a business trip overseas. My brother was interrogated and finally denied entry because they considered him a potential immigrant. They searched his luggage and found his degree diplomas and denied his entry. His visa was anulled. What would be a safe step to take right now? Should I ask him to apply for a new visa and if yes how long after he was denied he would be able to apply? Or should I think about different ways (work visa)?

Appt for my mother and sister...
Hi,

I have an appointment coming up for my mother and sister in May'2006. Also, my wife is pregnant and my sister would like to come and help as my mother would like to stay with my father.

Any additional papers that could help in getting the Visa? Would a letter from the doctor help in this situation?

My wife's parent are in the process of getting their passport so it would be a while for them to come here.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

My mom got visa
Hi Friends,
My mom went for interview today. She got 10-year multiple visa. I was concerned sice she is a widow and that all of my siblings are here in US.
The only questions asked were:
HOw many children you have? Where are they? What do they do. How much time will you stay in this country? And when will you be back and why?
That was it and they issued the visa
