Hi,

My parents got 10 years Multiple Entry Visa :) They had their interview on Nov 3rd & got their Passports on Nov 9th. They were informed about the 3 day long weekend & were told that the passports would be dispatched on Nov 7th only.

Visa Interview

The interview was in English @ 1:15 PM @ Chennai. They reached the consulate around 12:45p & were let in immediately. Both my parents are retired & both the children are in USA. The CO was a young lady & after initial greeting exchanges, asked following questions:

Q: Who are you visiting in USA?
A: Daughter & son-in-law

Q: Who is sponsoring your trip?
A: Son-in-law

Q: What was your profession before retirement? (To both my parents)
A: **** ***

Q: How much pension do you get?
A: Our household monthly pension is Rs. YYYY X

Q: Do you have any other Children?
A: Yes, we have 1 son

Q: Where does he live?
A: He lives in **** **** ***, USA.

Q: Oh! So will you be visiting your son also then?
A: Yes, we will be visiting him also definitely.

“You got the visa. Please pay the fees”. That’s it. Questions were asked to both my dad & mom equally. And they were out of the consulate by 2:15 pm. Overall, it was pleasant experience. The CO was friendly & didn’t check any documents even though they had carried all possible documents as suggested in this website. Thanks again!

Duration of Visitors Visa
Hi,
This site was very helpful in preparing my parents to take Consulate interview for Visitors Visa. They had the interview on Nov 3rd, 2005 in Tamil. After few questions like,

1.What is your profession ?
2.Purpose of your trip ?
3.How many children have you got and where are they ?
4.How long has your son been in the USA ?
5.My parents stated the duration of visiting in the DS156 as 5 months, so the officer asked while everyone is asking for 6 months, how come you are asking only for 5 months ? My father replied that they have to come back for harvests in their farm.

These were the only questions asked, and the officer told my parents that their Visa has been granted.

Now I have a question, is there any basis on the duration of the Visitors Visa being granted ? They have not received their passports yet, so we still do not know about their Visa duration, i.e. 10 Yrs or 6 Months or 1 Yr. They are aged 56 and 53, I hear from people that if they are aged under 60 they will only be given 6 months Visa. How true is this ?

Thanks

Mother got 10yr visa and sister's got rejected.
My mother and sister applied for visitor visa to visit me. My mother got 10yr multiple entry visa but they rejected my sister's visa saying that if both of them will go then their are chances of them to be possible immigirants. No question was asked from my mother. The counsler was a lady and she just asked for the sponser documents and no other papers were seen.

She just asked who many kids my mother has?My sister said three(myself in US,Herself and my younger brother who is in college) She said she can't give my sister a visa stating who will take care of my brother and they might settle in US and later call our brother also.

I think they have a mindset to not to give visa to young people. As she was carrying all the desired papers of her employment etc. The counsler was not even intrested to see any of her papers.

Anyways my mom got 10yrs visa.

My Mother-in-Law's Visitor Visa Rejected
My mother-in-law had an interview on October 31st at Delhi Consulate and visitor visa got rejected. Orignally, we were planning on applying this visa based on the fact that her daughter-in-law is pregnant and she needs her mother-in-law to come and take care of her. However, after consulting this website, it referenced that you should never mention that your daughter or daughter-in-law is pregnant because then Consular Officer thinks that your intention is to baby sit. I wish that I would have filed on pregnancy basis, maybe, her chances would have been higher. She was asked two questions:
1. What is the purpose of your trip?
She said that she wants to visit her son and daugher-in-law and travel the United States with them for a month. We even included round-trip airfare.
2. How long has your son been in the U.S.?
They said that "visiting" is not a legitimate reason. Therefore, please do not follow the advise on not disclosing pregnancy basis. I believe it is stronger than just "visiting."

In-Laws got visitors visa, Sis-in-law was rejected with 214(b)
My husband is a H1B holder who has been in US for almost 5 years now.

My in-laws and sis-in-law had their appointment on October 24th 2005 at 11:30am at chennai. Though they reached the consulate by 10:00am there was a very long queue and they got into the consulate around 12:30pm. Both my In-laws are retired and my SIL is a medical student. At the interview (the consulate officer was a lady wearing a partha not a white) , it seems she was rude and impatient. She didn't ask much to my in-laws....my father-in-law was asked if he has any property and to show the papers..while he was taking the paper out of his file to give her..she became impatient and fired at him saying how come he doesn't know what property he owns, My mother-in-law was just asked if she was a college professor, for which she answered yes. My SIL was asked
1) How long has your brother been in us?
5 years
2) Do you have any other siblings?
No
3) Why are you going now?
I have vacation now (she also handed our a letter from her college stating she was a student there and she has vacation now.

The Consulate officer took the letter, read it,gave it back said thank you and said it is rejected for you and when my Father-in-law was about to say that she only has vacation now...before he could say anything she just said "DON'T ARGUE WITH ME" and left she didn't give my in-laws the token so they could pay their DD. Then luckly a white officer came out and my FIL told him they had not received the token, he gave them the token and they paid up and my SIL got the rejection letter with 214(b).

I still don't see a logical explanation for her visa rejection...she is studying there and had a letter from herin India (she had completed 4 years) and stay in US. If any one can think of any "acceptable reason" for her rejection pls let me know.

We are still waiting for my in-laws passport to find out for how long they have their visa...we were planning on bringing them immediately so my SIL doesn't lose any class but now they can't come as my SILs was rejected and she cannot stay back home alone.
