Parents visa rejected under 214(B)
My parents application was rejected on 19th Jan under section 214(B) in Kolkata. They recently moved to a new town and therefore, their present home add in DS156 was diff from that in passport. This led to a number of questions and also why they wanted to be in the US for 6 mths.
We want to apply again..do any of you have an idea abt the possibility of theirs getting the visa and if yes, how soon can we apply.

Thanks
Disappointed

Parents got 10 year Visitor Visa
Hi,

Thanks a ton to this website and all the users who have provided valuable information.

My Parents had their consulate interview on 12th Jan at Delhi. My Parents have been to US before on a visitor's visa but both times they were issued a 1 year Visa. At that time, both my father and mother were working.

My Father recently retired and I was worried if the retired status is going to be an issue or not. But by God's grace, it all went well and my parents got 10 year multiple entry Visa.

Here is how the details went:

Father: Good Morning Sir
VO: Very Good Morning..
brief silence while VO looks at the paperwork.
VO to my Father: When did you retire?
Father: I retired on 31st Dec 2005.
VO:So you are going to spend some time with your son?
Father: Yes
VO: Will you be taking a stop in Europe or going non-stop to Newark?
Father: We will go non-stop to Newark.
Seems like VO was in an excellent mood. He told my father "It is quite a nice flight. Me and my mom went to Newark as well."

At this point, VO looked at my mother and asked her
VO: Where does your son lives?
Mom: He lives in Edison,NJ.

VO asked for documents sent by me like paystubs, IT returns etc.

With a smile, he asked them to submit the drafts at the counter and told me parents that they have been issued a visa. I had told my parents not to ask for how long but keep the conversation bare minimum and with a smile.

2 days later they got their passports back and had been issued a 10 year multiple visa.

I would suggest all the applicants to keep all the paperwork done to the best of their knowledge and leave nothing to chance. Rest it is all randon but may God give success to everyone.

Visa granted to my parents
My parents were granted 1 yr visitor visa on 9-Jan-06 at Kolkata consulate. Thanks to this website for all the information.

I had sent all the docs as mentioned on this website and arranged the same in a folder with a label on each doc for easy spotting.

The interview was very cool. The consular, in fact, didn't even see at most of the docs. He asked for the following:
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from my father's office (He is supposed to retire Jan-06 end). My father told about his retirement and that he planned to visit US in mid-Feb.
- My father's designation.
- Pension amount that he would get.
- My company name.

Visitor visa at Delhi
My parents were approved for a visitor visa on Jan10th at Delhi. They were not asked to show any documents at all instead few standard questions and that is all.

Earlier on they were refused the same visa (June 2005). Refusal was pretty curt i.e. after 1st question the consular official told them their visa cannot be approved. No rhyme or reason.

Guess it is pretty random !!

Visito's visa rejected:-(
Hi! All -

My parents had their interview on 1/9/2006 at the Delhi consulate and both their applications were rejected. The only reason I can think of (and that was one of the questions that was asked to them) is that I am their only child. I am a green card holder and my kid was born here.

Would appreciate if anyone who is the only child and had applied for their parents visa could share their experience and if there was any success on a second attempt of the visa application.

Regards
Abhi

Got 10 year Multiple entry visa for parents!!!!!
Happy to inform that my parents got 10 year visa.Their interview was on 5th Jan 9:15a.m.It just took a minute or so to complete the interview. The CO was in a good mood.He didn't even ask for sponsor documents.
The questions he asked are as follows:
What is your job now?
Where is your son-in-law working?
How many children do you have in India?(At this time my father told he had some family photos .But the CO told him that was not necessary)
No questions were asked to my mother.
That's it!!!!....CO said you've got the visa..you can go pay your fees.My parents told me that after hearing the answers for the first 2 questions itself, the CO was impressed.

Thanks to immihelp for all the help ...We prepared all the documents with the help of this site ...and especially the "read experiences" and "discussion forums" came in handy...
