10 yr Visitor visa for parents!!
Thanks to immihelp!!
Parents got 10yr visiting visa at Chennai consulate on the 20th. Interview was in telugu and all the questions were addressed to my mother.
They were..
1. What do u do?
2. Who is in the US?
3. How many children do you have? wht do thy do? are they married?

Visa officer asked my father only one question where he works and his income.

Visa Officer asked my father to forward all the docs and reviewed the photocopies of my passport, online BOA bank statements and online BOA six month account summary. (I'd to send these online statements as I never received any account verification statement from BOA. Their customer service is very bad, if you bank with BOA then you should plan atleast two months ahead)

After verifing the docs VO asked whether my parents wanted to stay longer. They replied in the negative. He said they could stay longer and enjoy if they wish.
Though there was a translator, VO was asking questions in Telugu. It was a positive experience for them , thanks to Immihelp.

Thanks

My parents got their Visas approved in Delhi !!!
We were all so tensed about the interview as my parents passports are from south India and and so techinically they were supposed to take the interview in Chennai but they were attending the interview in Delhi as they were living there with my brother.Anyways , it went really smooth and turns out they didnt even check all the documents they took with them.My dad took all his property documents..bank statements etc etc..which they didnt even care to look at! The most interesting part is that they didnt even look at our passport copies either! They just asked very few simple questions like..
where does you son in law work..
where does your daughter work..
where does your son living in Delhi work..

and thats it folks!! When my dad was about to take out more documnets from the file in his hand..the Lady at the counter said..its ok sir..they are not needed :)

I am sooooo excited ...I just cant express :)

Thanks to immihelp - my parents got 10 yr visa in Chennai on Oct 18th.
Everything went really well - the CO didnt even see any docs - just asked a couple of basic questions to my parents. My parents had scheduled their interview in Urdu. We sent all the necessary docs according to info posted on immihelp. I also prepared a bunch of questions and asked my parents to prepare well.
CO - So your son and daughter are in US. Where are they?
Parent - Yes, in xxx and yyy place
CO - Do you have any other son?
Parent - Yes, he is studying in India
CO - (To my father) Do you withdraw pension? (he is retired)
Father - yes, Rs x
CO - Do you have any property? how much?
Father - so and so..
CO - You wont be staying for long?
Parents - No.
CO - Congrats!! visa granted.

The KEY is to ask ur parents to be confident throughout the interview - thats what they see. Rest is all luck. Special thanks to immihelp for providing such useful info to us.

Got the B1 visa - 2 min Interview
Hi All,

I am glad to tell that I got B1 stamping. The interview was smooth and cool. I was only 2 Min interview taken by a American Lady officer. I was so nervous in the queue for two hours. I gain the confidence once I saw people taking interviews in front of me. The office didn't even saw my original certificates.

Total Interview was so smooth, it may be because of I am working in a MNC also I have invitation letter from the client.

regards
-Bhagavan

Dad's visitor visa application tips
I am an U.S Citizen for over 8 years. I always visited my single parent (mother passed away) once in every 2 years. My dad has never been interested in coming to U.S forever that's why I did'nt do any thing to bring him down here. My question is: is it o.k to disclose that his daughter lives in the u.s and that he wants to come and visit the place his daughter lives meaning see the world of america with his own eyes coz whoever comes from america brag alot about this and that. What are the chances of my dad of getting a visitor visa upon saying that he is visiting his daughter. Anybody sees any complications of possible questioning from the consular officer. I highly appreciate all valuable tips by anyone who's been there recently. My father has business in india for almost 40 years and he is 67 years old.

is there anybody who could set a possible guidelines/questios so he can do preparation before hitting the date of interview.
Thanks
Azra Khan

MY MOTHER GOT 10YRS VISA - MUMBAI CONSULATE
HI All, I am very happy & feel great about the consulates in the mumbai office. Since, my mom got 10 yrs visa, being a widow, which was very difficult. But, they really are considerate to genuine, confident & organised people.

I am married & my mom is travlling to my brother's place in US

We prepared my mom with all sorts of weird & simple questions. Below is the list of quest they asked my mom :-
Where are u going & for how much time ?
Purpose of your visit ?
Is your daughter-in-law pregnant ? How long did you stay with her ?
With whom are u staying here in India ?
What’s your daughter doing ?
Is your daughter in law working ?
What will you do whole day in the house? ( This was the weird quest, we randomly asked mom, which even consulate asked. Mom answered my d-in-law will take me to places as she is a house wife. They wanted to chk, if she is aware of what visas are they on(ie) dependent & H1B)
How long do you want to stay there ?
Whats your son doing there ?

Then, when mom was trying to remove the work doc’s of my brother. Consulate Consulate asked her to hand over the complete file, she went thru most of the docs, which had both English & gujrati post-it stuck on it.

Key words are, CONFIDENCE, ORGANISED FILE & PRESENCE OF MIND.

Thanks to this site for sharing knowledge with everyone.........

My mother has got 10 year visa in Chennai Consulate
Hi,

Thanks to all for posting experiences here. It helped a lot in my mother's case. Providing the details below: -

My mom had interview scheduled on Oct 03, 05 morning 8:30 AM in Chennai consulate. I have scheduled the appt in tamil and sent various types of questions to my mother for preparation. Also, conducted 4/5 mock interviews over the phone. Mock interviews are very helpful.

She visited the Chennai consulate location and surrounding premises 2 days before the interview to get accustomed with the location. On the day of interview, she reached early morning 7 AM. The gate was opened around 7:15 for people to enter and she entered in the first set of people. Security did not prevent carrying polythene carry bags. But, cellphones & other electronics items are a strict No. Initially, she went through a couple of counters where the dds and ds156 forms were collected and a token was given. The last counter in ground floor, a lady collected the token and put the passport , ds156 form , photo in a file provided by them and gave it back to my mom. My mom then went to first floor to attend the interview. At the entrance, there are sign boards to stand in different queues for english language interviews or regional language interviews. She noticed a bit late and stood in the tamil language queue. CO was a young american guy who spoke in tamil fluently. Mom told vanakkam and CO reciprocated the same.
CO- where are you going?
Mom - i am going to city, state names.
CO - who is there in USA?
Mom - My son is there and he will come back by may'06.
CO - Ok , can I see your son's passport?
Mom - (earlier has given all the neatly arranged /tagged documents to CO, gave the passport copies)
CO looked in all the pages of my passport copy and verified my earlier us trip visa stamps and current one as well.
CO - it looks good. you can go and pay the fees.
that's it..

My mom is working as a govt officer and we expected lot of questions around the govt approval, NOC etc., also,my dad is no longer alive.

But, she didn't get any questions around those topics...
Passport has come with 10 year duration. Thanks to all for posting experiences and making this a lively supportive forum

All the Best,
Muniappan.
