Parents got B1 visa at New Delhi.
Hello,

My parents got their B1 visas on the 17th of November at the US Embassy in New Delhi. The only document they were asked to produce is the "Affidavit of Support" sent by me. Their interview only lasted about 3 minutes and the following questions were asked:

1] Why do you want to go to the US?
2] Where did you work before retirement?
3] What do you do after retirement?
4] How many children you have other than your son in the US and what do they do?
5] Why hasn't your son visited India in 5 years? (This was a tricky one and they had an appropriate answer for it)

Kudos to immihelp for putting up extensive information about the whole process and for people to share their experiences. All the time and effort spent in preparing for the visa interview was totally worth it. Best of luck to everyone.

Thanks,
RG

Parents Got Visa
My parents got their tourist visa this week - it was rejected earlier this year in Jan.

The consular asked many questions, but we had prepared them for all the questions -

Key points we focused on was that they are not coming to take care of our kid ( which they are not) and that they have enough reasons to go back to India - father is retired but has plans to start work again.

Bottom line: be prepared and have all the supporting papers ready - after that its up to the consular.

I guess it also helps if the consular is a guy - the last time a very mean ( but smart) lady took their interview

My parents got the visa!!!
Hi all,

Just wanted to share the good news that my parents got the visa today (11-16-05) at the Chennai consulate. They said the interview process didn't last more than 2 mts.

The only questions that were asked during interview are,

1) Who is Sponsoring the Visit? (Our Daughter)

2) Did your Daughter study in US?(Yes, YYYY X university, xxxxx place)

3) Why do you want to stay only for 3 months?(I am govt employee in xxx and leave is sanctioned only for 3 months...)

when they tried showing the NOC, grant of leave...he said no need of any documents sir, go and pay the fees and enjoy your trip....

Without this forum, it would have been very tough for me to prepare them. Thanks All!!!

I am so delighted that they got the visa. Thank you Immihelp!!!

Thanks
Soumya

Parents got 10 yr multiple entry Visa @ Chennai on NOV 7th
My parents had their appointment on November 7th 2005 at 11:45am at Chennai.

The interview was in English @ 11:45am @ Chennai on November 7th 2005. They reached the consulate around 09:30am & were let in by 11:45am. Both my parents are retired . The CO asked following questions:

Q:Why are you visiting US?
A: To visit my daughter and Son-in-law and for tourism purpose.

Q: How many children do you have?
A: 2, one son here and daughter in US

Q: What is your monthly income?
A: For this my father said the annual income, then the CO once again asked Monthly income, then my father said the monthly income.

Then the CO asked for all the paper from the sponsor (my papers)...my parents gave them the file, she went through everything and when she came across my pay slip she checked something on it with her computer. Meanwhile my mom gave her some family photos(of my brother and his kids and family photos), she went through those too. Then she asked them to pay the fees.

We are glad that when the passport came they both have 10 year multiple entry visa.

Thanks to immihelp for all the information and to all that participate in the disscussion forum.
