Visitors Visa
Parent's and In Laws all got their visa's approved.
Parents were interviewed by an Indian person and she gave them a 5 year visa. They were in and out very quickly. A total of 20 minutes. They had a 4:15 appointment.

In Laws went the next day and were interviewed by an American Consulate Officer who gave them a 10 year visa. They had a very long wait, almost 4 hours.
Questions asked were
1) place of residence
2) number of months for visit
3) property papers
4) my tax documents
5) my employment letter

Thanks to everybody for sharing their experience.

In-Laws visa rejection
My parents-in-laws went to Mumbai consulate on 5th Dec 2005. They took the interview in Marathi.

Following questions were asked
1)Why are you going to US?
Answer- Tourism and visit daughter and son-in-law

2)What does your son-in-law does?
Answer - YYYY in YYY Company

3)How long do you intend to stay
Answer - 3 months

4)How can we be certain that you will return
My In-laws have 7 childrens , 6 are in India , only my wife is in US
Answer - I have 4 daughters and 2 sons in India. We have other relatives in India. Also we have our house and other property in India and so we need to return . We are just going to visit our daughter in US for 2-3 months.

Then they rejected the Visa.

My FIL asked the reason for rejection.
They said you do not have many relatives in US.

Sounds pretty odd as they should be concerned if they do not have relatives in India ( not in US).

Anyways the process sometimes seems illogical, we are going to try again in a few months

B1 visa rejected
I work for an IT company in india since a year prior to which i was working in singapore for 4+ years. I hold valid australian and uk visas and also have a singapore permanent residency. I was rejected a b1 visa on the grounds - "Needs a new passport" The officer felt that my passport was not in good condition - infact its just 2 years old and in very good condition. I don't understand how this can be handled as getting a new passport means wasting 3-4 months.
