10 Yr Visa granted for my mother
Hi,

Wanted to share our experience.

My mother got 10 Yr Visa approved recently.

Initially we had the appointment scheduled only for Sept 2005. We diligently checked available slots everyday and in a week's time we were successful in finding one in May itself.

We prepared all the documents as per the guidelines provided in this website. The questions asked during the interview were of general nature and some of them are as follows:

1. Who is in USA ?
2. How long your son is in USA?
3. How many children you have ?
4. How many are in US and how many in India?
5. When did your son get married ?
6. Did he get married in USA or India?
7. Why you want to visit USA ?

The interview lasted for 2-3 mins and was asked to pay the visa issuance demand draft. She received the passport stamped in two days.

The information & instructions available in the site are of great help and the experiences posted are very useful.

Keep up the good work !.

10 year visitor visa granted to my parents
We are absolutely delighted to inform you that our parents have been granted 10 year visa from the Chennai consulate in their first attempt.

My parents had their interview on 18'th at 10:15am in English.

Sponsor - brother (Green Card Holder)
Only sibling(sister) me - also in the US (in Adjustment of Status)

My brother sent all documents and applications as per this website and the US chennai consulate website.

They reached the consulate at 9:15 am only to be told that the entrance was on the other side. It took them some time to get there. They showed their appointment letter and were let in after the security check. Even though the letter mentions that they are not supposed to carry anything else, my mother told me that she saw lot of people with water bottles etc.

After submitting the DD at TTS services, they got their token and were asked to wait for their turn. My parents told me that all the people in office were extremely courteous and helpful. They saw more than 600 people inside the consulate.

Then by 11 am their token number was called and were asked to stand in the queue. Just before their turn the consular officer closed his booth around 11:45 am.
Then they were asked to wait in another queue and their turn finally came at around 1:00 pm.
They were interviewed by a very pleasant and smiling American lady. She asked all the usual questions to my father.
Who is in the US? Son ....
What is his visa status? Green card holder
For how long ? ... years

Why did'nt you visit him all these years?
My father answered that he had work committment and could not get time off.

What do you do?
My dad is a civil engineer and told her about the nature of his work.

How long do you want to visit?
 My father said 5 months
She asked the same question to my mother. She said 6 months. For this she remarked that they should decide between the 2 of them how long they want to stay.

Any other children? a daughter

where is she? ... place in the US
For this the lady was extremely happy because that was her hometown too.

She did not see a single document and told them that she was checking everything in the computer. She asked them to go and pay the fees. When they were just about to leave she asked them to wait a minute. Later she said everything is fine and they can visit the US and come back.

My parents received their passport after 2 days with a 10 year visa. It was a tense period for all of us as both the children were in the US and the fact that my brother was GC holder.

I wish to thank everyone who shared their experiances on this website. It was immensely useful and the consular officer asked all the common questions that I had picked up from this website.

We did have mock interviews with our parents for 2 or 3 sessions. Once they read about all the procedures and experiances at the consulate they felt more comfortable. I sent all the positive experiances for them, asked them to be confident and answer to the point.

They carried all the essential documents in a separate folders(sponsor letter, I 134, W2, bank statements, house papers evaluated by a CA etc) and had post-its on the top of each folder describing the list of documents inside. They carried all other documents (my passport, visa, etc) separately. They also told us that the consular officer in the next counter was asking documents from a number of people.

I turned out to be quite an experiance for us.

I wish all the very best to everyone else going for the interview.

Thank you

In_laws got their visa
My in_laws visa got rejected in Nov 03 because both their kids are here in US.
They applied again now and got approved. This time also they mentioned both the kids are here. But they took evidences of lot of ties, both family and financial , that will force them to come back to India.
 Questions were asked mainly on the ties. My mother_in_law said she had to take care of her elderly mother who is mostly dependent on her. Visa officer asked who will take care of the mother when they are in US; And why do they need six months for their stay ; When did their children come to US;Who are staying with them ;
Visa officer didn't ask for any documents.
We like to thank immihelp.org and everyone who posted their experiences.
 Good Luck !

Visitor Visa rejected twice at Chennai consulate
Hi,
My father went to Chennai consulate twice and he did not get the visa. Both times he took all the documents with him as this site suggested. Second time he could not follow the qn that consulater asked so he asked him to repeat but he did not follow.
Last year my mom went for visa and she got the visa for 10 years at that time my father couldn't go because of his work. Now my father is retired. All three of his children are in US. Do you think this could be the reason for him not getting the visa? Now we took an appointment in June again. Hope he will get this time. Any suggetions and any more info for success in getting the visa appreciated .
Appreciate your help.

Thanks,
GP

Re-application of B2 Visa !!
Hi all,
Visitor visa for my parents got refused for the first time. I have booked an appointment for their re-application. I am not sure if I need to send all the documents once again. Ofcourse, they will prepare a new DS-156 form for their re-application. I looked at the Refusals and Re-application section in this website. It is not clear about the documents i need to resend. Will the previous I-134 (Affidavit of support) be sufficient or do I need to prepare another one and get it notarized ? The previous I-134 will be less than 4 months old on their date of appointment. None of the information on the form has changed, apart from my bank balance, which raised by little :-).

thanks for your time,
Ram

Parents got 10 yrs visa in the first attempt
My parents had their appointment at the Mumbai consulate at 8:30 am. They reached the consulate around 8 am and were let in. The interview went smooth. The lady consulare asked following questions to my dad:
1. What do you do?
2. Which company does your son work for?
3. Where did he work before company X?
4. When did your son go to USA?
5. When did you son get his greencard?
6. How long do you want to stay?
The consulare kept checking her computer screen as my dad was responding. Apparantly they have all of our records on the screen?? Anyway, with that she told that don't stay for more than 6 months.
Did not check any documents.
