10yr Multiple for Parents at Chennai
Hi,
First of all thanks to everybody on this forum for their inputs and also to the website for a great job.
My parents went for their interview at Chennai this week and got a 10yr Multiple entry visa.
We sent them all the documents mentioned on this website. In was another matter that they were not asked for any document.
I asked my folks to read through the comments on this forum. And I also went through a few difficult questions with them (why would you want to come back?, etc).
Their appt was at 1030. They reached at approx 9:30. There were only 5-6 people in the line..the rest (~500-800) were already inside!
They payed their different fees and waited till about 1230 when they were called.

Father said 'Good Afternoon' the officer responded 'Hi'.
The officer immediately asked them to fingerprint.
While they were doing that he asked my Father his name.
How long son in US? (6 years)
What his son was doing in the US. (H1 worker)
Is the son a US citizen? (No)
How long do you want to stay in US (4-6months)
Then he asked my mother her name.
Thats it..then he said...'have a goodtime in the US.'

They paid their fees and received their passports by courier in 2 days.

Facts:
Father is retired from govt service with pension. Mom is homemaker.
Have 1 son (myself ie) in US and a daughter, with grand-daughter, in India.
Mom has one brother in US (citizen)
First time to US cosulate.

They took every possible document. I even sent them my Marriage license! Mainly because my wife was a partial sponsor for them.

Another factor: they were very confident. I think this helps a lot. Americans like a good attitude. They dont like nervousness. Look them straight in the eyes and no shifty movements!

I will be happy to respond to any questions.

Good luck to everyone

Tourist Visa extension
Hi,

My mom got a 10yr multiple entry visa without any hassle. She came here in August 2003 and was suppsoed to go back by Feb 27th 2004. But, we wanted her to be there for our 5th wedding anniversary, so we applied for an extension in mid-January 2004. We have all the copies of documentation. She was rejected any extension and we got the letter on 18th May 2004, but her I-94 card showed date of rejection as 8th May 2004. She had an open ticket with Singapore Airlines, but they could not give her any seat until July. We bought fresh ticket from Bristish Airways and sent her back on 31st May, 2004. She owns a house in India, and has all financial ties there. My concerns are:

1. Will she be allowed in this country again?
2. How long should she wait before applying for a new visa because they will void that 10-yr multiple entry visa.
3. Does anyone know whether the US consulate in India grants a new visa to people overstayed because they were waiting for their decision?

Hi,
My brother got the B2 visa 2 days ago at new delhi consulate. He is retired, age 54, no business, no sponsorship, no bank statement, no I-34, no tax return, no documents checked ,asked couple of questions, and visa is issued.
If he can get visa, anybody can get the visa.

Visitor Visa denied
On May 9th, My sister and brother-in-law were denied a visitor's visa since they were employed in their current jobs for less than 2 years. (They had their own business prior to that). The consular interviewing them seemed very new and unsure of of the process. She did not look at their bank balance, assets etc., which showed more than sufficient savings in their bank.

Got 10 Years multi entry B1/B2 VISA in first attempt
First of all I'd like to thank everyone managing and contributing to this web site. But I don't know as to why only Tourist Visa to US are covered. There is very little about Business Visitor Visa.

Anyhow, I share my experience. My client in Atlanta invited me for meetings for planning some new projects. I applied for interview in March and got a date of May for interview. I consulted numerous friends and business associates regarding their experiences. MOST were SKEPTICAL as they thought I looked very young for a Director/Entrepreneur of a succesful company.

I got started with my research and thats where immihelp.com came in handy. I prepared all business and personal documents in 2 folders with marked colored tags for easy pullout. My folders were transparent. This helps.

I must say that I was anxious at interview as this is an important visit. Here is the interview transcript

Councellor: A 50 Years White Male. Pleasant.

ME: Hello Councellor, How are u today?
US: I'm fine, how about you?
ME: Good.
(Passport and forms given to him)
The councellor inspects my papers for good 1-2 minutes. Briefly looks at me. By now my anxiety was gone.
US: Can I look at your invitation letter please?
ME: Sure. (Invitation from US client given)
US: (Inspects the same, does checks on the terminal)
US: Can I see your business licence?
ME: Sure. (Memorandum of Articles of associations in my Private Limited Co. handed over)
US: Please show me the page that has your name on it.
ME: The page with blue tag has my name.
US: (Locates & Matches my name with DS-156)

Important: The porion that had my name as one of the Director was marked by me in Yellow, so it was quick for him to locate.

US:How many people work for you?
ME: X people. Y in Faridabad office and Z in New Delhi Office
US: Whats your company's annual turnover?
ME: XX Million Rupees in FY 2004-05
US: (Gives Pleasant and Surprised look)
US: Your visa is approved. (Gives me a sticker to give to TT Services counter)

I got my VISA today, 3 days after interview.

Summary: Be thorough with your documents. You never know which aspect of your small/medium business they might question and ask for supporting document(s). Mark important areas carefully, so that you look quick. (Its reads difficult, but actually its relatively easy) Also note that he did not ask me the purpose of my visit. I assume it was pretty clear and consistent in my forms and invitation letter.

Finally a pleasing and endearing personality works. Thats a truth. In my opinion, the councellors make up their mind in first 30 seconds.

Anyway, I hope this helps all potential visitors. Thanks again everyone. All the best.

Visitor visa
My mother had a pleasant experience at the consulate on May 10, 2005. I had booked the appointment (we requested for Tamil translator) from US a long time back (may be three months ago). I sent the papers to her last month!

I sent following documents!
Folder one (Yellow)
1. Appointment letter
2. filled Visa application form
3. my invitation letter to her
4. asked her to collect property document, pension paper, and bank book
Folder two (Red)
5. My sponsorship document (134, letter to consular, employment letter, pay stubs, bank statements, and last three year of income tax filling form)
Folder three Blue
6. Copies of my visa documents, green card, my wife’s and my son.
Folder four (different yellow folder)
7. All old passport copies

I also sent a list of possible questions to her!

I had exact set of document in US, so that I can tell her what is what and in which folder. I went ahead with the color folder, so that my mom can understand clearly, instead folder 1, 2 ….

Her appointment time was at 9.00, she reached there by 8.30, at the gate they checked her appointment letter and passport
Second counter they took the DDs for application and courier.
Gave her the token and asked her to wait at the main building.

Called her token number, she gave her passport and application document.

The officer asked who is X Y, she told him that X Y is my son! (Only one Question)

Looked at my sponsorship document (the whole red folder), took the I134 then asked her to pay the fees!

We still do not know for how long she got the visa!

Good luck to you all!

Parents got 10 year Multiple entry visa
My Parents were issued a 10 yrs multiple entry visa at Chennai consulate on May 4th, 2005. They had a pleasant experience at the consulate. Apparently the consulate staff were very co-operative in guiding interviewees within the consulate. My parents experience at the embassy:
At the security they had to show the Appointment letter and each of their passports. They were directed to the TTS counter, where they paid the courier fee for each passport. After that they were asked to pay the visa application fee at the next counter. Once they received the recipt, they went to another counter, where they had to show the appointment letter, passports and DS-156 forms for each applicant. Upon verifying the above documents they were given a token and directed to a 'main' building where interviews were being conducted. After being seated for few minutes they were asked to approach a counter where a CO took their interview. Their appointment was @ 8:30AM in English and it lasted for 10mins. My Dad & Mom wished the CO, Good Morning. CO reciprocated and asked how my Dad was doing. All the questions were directed towards my Dad.
CO: Please show me your passports.
CO: Please give your fingerprints.
CO: How long do you want to stay in US.
Dad: 4 months.
CO: What do you do.
Dad: Retired as so and so. Dad passed on his business card to the CO.
CO: How many kids do you have
Dad: three. 2 in US, 1 in India
CO: Do you have any grandkids
Dad: No.
CO: Show me the Affidavit of support and the passports of your kids staying in US.
Dad: Was about to give the requested items, when the CO asked for the whole bunch of Sponsor's documents. (Note: Affix post-it flags and mark the details of the document on the flag, this will help in browsing much easier)
CO: How much pension do you draw?
Dad: Pension papers are still in processing. (Dad retired recently)
CO: In what position did you retire
Dad: So and so.
CO: Please pay the fees in next counter. Welcome to the USA.

Note: Train your parents with most commonly asked questions, sponsor's documents and the process within the embassy. They have to be confident during interview. Attire is equally important.
