Visitor Visa For Mother => Request for Tips
Hi,

My mother applied for Visitor's Visa in April by
Drop Box (It was still allowed then). Her application was sent back asking her to come
back. Now she has appointment on 4th Jan. While
preparing her for this i had the following questions. She had vsisted US in 1998-99 for 4 months.

1. Was the directive to come in person same as refusal. Do we have to mention it in the application

2. Are there any specific additional docs
that she needs to take.

Any suggestions/tips are greatly appreciated

Prasad

Parents got 10 yr multiple visa on Dec.8 from Chennai
Thanks to immihelp and all the people who posted their experiences on this site. The detailed info on what needs to be done and how to prepare for the interview helped us a lot.

My mother had been to USA on a 6 mths visa around 4 years back and my dad was applying for the first time. They had opted for a Kannada translator. They were asked if they would like to wait for the translator, but they opted to interview in English. My Dad is 72 and Mom is 65yrs old.

Before the interview, their application and passport were put in separate folders and given to them by the receptionist. They had to give these folders to the interviewer. At the time of interview, they were not asked even a single document not even I-134.

They asked only 5 questions:

1. Who is there in USA ?

2. What visa are you applying for ? Why?

3.To my dad - what did you retire as?

4. From where did you retire ?

6. How long are you going for?
4 months

The interviewer then said they may go and pay the DD.

They received their passports today with 10 yrs multiple visa.

Thanks a lot to all who posted their experiences and FAQs.

Mother got Visa valid for 10 yrs in the first attempt at Chennai, Dec 9th
Thanks to the "immihelp" for providing such a comprehensive info on what needs to be done and how to prepare for the interview. We benefited a lot from the experiences posted by other users also.

Actually my mother wants to visit my sister & bro-in-law in US, as my sister is expecting a baby by this month end. We prepared my mother not to mention it unless they ask first.

At the time of interview, they didn't ask to show even a single document, not even DS-156, as I submitted it through the web. While my mother was opening the file for the documents, they asked her not to open the file itself.

There are two main points that favored us.

1. We applied for Telugu translator through the www.TTSVisas.com
2. Submitting the DS-156 form through the web http://evisaforms.state.gov/

There are two versions of the form DS-156:
One version can be filled online and submitted. Then you get back a form within minutes on the screen with barcode which you can print , sign and submit at the time of your interview. This makes the visa process faster as they will already have your info on their system. I recommend this to be done after the application is properly complete.

The second version is of course filling a hard copy.

The first way is the best.

They asked 7 simple questions:

1. To which place you want to visit in USA ?
xyz

2. What is your daughter's birth date ?
(She said the year wrong. They asked again "hmmm...m?"(like "what?"). Then she corrected it.)

3. When did your son-in-law has gone to USA ?
Jan 2001

4. When did your daughter has gone to USA ?
Apr 2004

5. So Why do you want to visit your daughter in such a short time of 8 months ?
Want to visit some tourist places in the holidays

6. How long will you stay in the US?
4 months

7. Why your husband is not accompanying you for the trip ?
He is working as an (so & so) officer with state Govt. He has no leaves for such a long trip.

The translator informed her "Your Visa has been Okayed, it will be send through the courier".

To our surprise, we received it in 24 hours to our house address in Hyderabad. After receiving the Visa only we got to know that it is 10 Years valid.

Thanks a lot to all who posted their experiences and FAQs.
Best of Luck for the aspirants.

They were asked 3 questions:

1) who lives in USA?

2)where does ur son in law work?

3)about property

& then saw my dad's ID.

Was very much delighted to find my dad works as so & so & he with all smiles didn't even look at the documents & said that my parents r getting multiple visa & asked them to pay the fees. He even waived his hands when they were done paying fees. My dad went again & said thanks it seems.

They r not allowing any personal belongings, not even one. My dad has to go back to parking & put the bag in the car. They were asked to leave the bag out(no security). A lady was fighting with officer over this it seems.

They got 10 years multiple visa, few hours after they reached home!

Thanks

Visitor Visa Rejected At Delhi Consulate.
Applied for visitor visa(tourist visa) and was rejected under 214(b). I am 17 years old and a student in my first year doing MIS/CIS,BBA(CAM) from GGSIPU.I had plans for visiting my father's real sister(i.e my aunt). She has been working as a dept manager at Walmart in Stuart,Florida for the last 16 yrs and and she got her US citizenship last year(2003) .She had sent me all the relevant documents which were required from her side :--
1.Duly Filled I-134
2.Support Letter
3.Invitation Letter
4.Bank Statement(Bank Of America)
5.Statement from Walmart
6.A copy of her US passport
7.W2 Stubs
8.Her income statements

There were two counters for Non-Immigrant VISAS , counter no. 8 and counter no. 9.I was there in the consulate office for about 20 minutes. The officer at the counter no.9 seemed very polite and co-operative . He infront of my own eyes granted 10-15 Visas while i was there . However, the officer at the counter no.8 was intensly interrogating a poor lady whose husband was working at Polaris . He made her stand for 15 minutes and then he rejected her app.I was hoping that the officer at the counter no.9 would call me but it all went wrong. The other officer called me , asked for my DS-156 and passport , asked me the following Qs:--

1.Why do u want to go to US ?
Ans - I want to go to US to visit my aunt and her family who lives in Stuart,FL.

2.What do ur parents do ?
Ans - My father has a well established business and my mother is a govt. school teacher.

3.What does ur aunt do in FL ?
Ans - My works as a department manager at Stuart,Walmart. She has been working over there for 16 years.

4.What do u do ?
Ans - I am student doing my MIS/BCAM from IP University.

Then he asked me for all the papers that my aunt had prepared and he after 5 minutes he said -- "I am sorry but i can't grant u the visa"
The reason he told me was tht i did not have strong ties with India.I was shocked at that statement coz he did not ask me nything abt my ties.

I was really dissapointed coz my dad had done all sorts of paperwork to prove tht i indeed have strong ties and i even asked him to read the covering letter but he said tht the interview was over.

I am planing to reapply in June 2005 , can ny body tell me hw can prove the strong ties i have with India ?

I'll really appreciate it.

Visa refusal at Mumbai consulate
Visa refusal at Mumbai consulate
1st application/interview: Dec 7 2004
Sponsor: son-in-law, GC holder
6 months visa for in-laws

QTNS asked:
1) Who is there in US - Daughter and son-in-law
2) How many children you have - one
3) How can you go for 6 months? - Because we are retired

They just looked at the documents sent by the sponsor. They looked at the letter sent by the sponsor for 6 months visit. MIL mentioned that she has affidavits to prove that they will be returning to India but the official said sorry, they can't grant the visa. Overall it was a very disappointing experience.

The factors which may have been negative:
1) 6 months stay
2) Only daughter in USA
3) Didn't show affidavits initially when asked for documents.
4) Sponsor's status - Greencard

Visa Rejection for my Son 5 months old
My wife and my daughter had applied for visitor's visa last year and succefully got one year multiple entry visa. As my wife is a professional singer she was invited to perform for concerts. And since I am in an important position I cannot spare time to accompany with my wife and daughter. Unfortunatly they could not go last year (Dec 2003) as my wife was conceived. Hence after the new arrival in our family (my son) and since her visa has not yet expired and she was invited again to perform this year, we applied for my son who is 5 months old who needs to go with her as he is still too small to be left back in India. But the visa was rejected for my son, stating that as per US laws he is not eligible for visa. Now this is too hard for me to comprehend this inference made by the US visa officers. Any help or guidance on this regard is appreciated.

Got 10 year visa from Chennai
Thanks to all who posted their experiences in this site. It gave me a lot of information to prepare my parents for the interview.

We arranged the papers they carried into 3 bundles and attached tags to all of them. Bundle 1 contained the DS156 forms, passports and DDs - Essentially all the documents which would have to be submitted by the time they reach the interview hall.
Bundle 2 contained all our documents and
Bundle 3 all the documents of proof of their assets in India, family ties etc.

I think the most important factor are to make sure they are well prepared pray hard.

Good Luck to all who are applying for their visas.
