First time F1 to H1B stamping interview - Vancouver
Hi guys,
I had my visa interview in Vancouver, CA on Feb 27th. I was on F1 and working on OPT for 4 months. When my H1B was filed I was still doing my Master's, so the visa petition was filed based on my Bachelor's degree from India. Fingerprinting and interview on the same day.

VO - GM, How are you doing today?
Me: I am great. How are you? -> Handed him my passport and i797 page 1, which the another guy working in the consulate had asked me to keep out.

VO - Im great too. *Looks at my I797 and scans the DS160 bar code stuck on the Passport*. So you work for ZZZ. What do you do?
ME - Explained it.

VO - Sounds good. I am going to cancel your F1 since you dont need it now.*stamps on my existing F1*. I am approving your visa. You should get it in 3-5 business days, *Took a green form and gave it to me. Then looked at screen again*. Oh sorry, it might take a little bit longer. Since, you are moving from F1 to H1B there is some additional processing involved.
ME - Approximately how long would it take?
VO - Should not take more than a week. You can find some more details about contact here. * He gave me a 221g slip*

ME -*Little worried now* But my visa is approved right?
VO- *With a smile* Dont worry its definitely approved, it will be issues within a week.

Status:
27th Feb - Administrative Processing
1st March - Case updated - still Admin Processing
3 rd March - Issued.

So from what I have gathered reading from here, other places and my own experiences - first time F1 to H1B stamping is taking a little longer.

Thanks.

Query regarding H1B stamping
I am on H1B visa with employer X but it is not yet stamped on my passport, my passport currently has my F1 visa stamped.

Now I have decided to change by job and my visa will be transferred to employer Y.

Before joining employer Y, I am planning to visit India and get my visa stamped for employer Y after they complete my visa transfer.

I am planning to take documents from my current employer and documents for my future employer.

I will be leaving my current company after my visa transfer and was wondering if it is okay to travel or is there any risk ?
Should I plan my travel after I join company Y?

Me and wife both specialist physicians renewing our visas for 3rd time.

Called National visa center and was told no issues with the application and that the consulate has been very busy and visas should be issued shortly.

Still Waiting. Hopefully everything goes smoothly .

Will update as soon as the visas are issued.

Chennai h1b interview Feb 27
I had visa interview for H1B renewal on feb 27 at Chennai consulate. Got approved with straight forward questions. My Visa officer looked strict as he rejected 2 visa app in front of me so I was nervous. Those 2 guys were for F1 and he wasn't convinced their case was legitimate so gave them 221g blue form I think.

My questions:
- what's your petitioner name
- how long have you been with company
- are you going to work at client site
- do you have bachelor's
- what's your salary
- what does your company do
- what's your role

He made quite a few notes and realised later that mine was renewal. After a minute of looking around in his system quietly, he said the soothing words "your visa is approved have a good trip".

I think if your case is straight forward and you have all docs then you should have no problems.
He only needed my passport. Nothing else but please take all support docs and required ones to be sure.

Thanks to you all posters for giving us information and experience. It helped me to make a final decision to go for stamping.

Good luck and safe trip.

None of the documents asked. Finally golden words came :) . I never heard any visa rejections when i was waiting for my turn So don't believe in media or others.

H1B VISA INTERVIEW CHENNAI
Hi All,

Today i had attended h1b interview in chennai with my spouse and kid. My VO is a lady in her mid 20's. Little rude in her pleasantries.

what is the purpose of your trip?
To take up new employment

Employer name in US?
Salary?
Current employer?
What your new employer doing?.
Give me your Offer letter?
Working in Inhouse or client project?.
Location?
your role in the project?
Project documents please?
Name some of the clients of your employer?
To which client's project you will be working?
Highest education qualification?
Ceo of the company?
number of employees?

She asked for offer letter and project documentation. In between the interview she was seeing something in her computer for 5mins. I think she is not satisfied with the project documents and gave a yellow slip and asked us to wait.

After 1.5hours an Indian guy came and asked me to come with him(not my spouse & kid). He left me in a room with another back office team officer(Indian) again she asked for more details about the project and documents, as the one provided by my employer is more like a presentation. I left that room and waited in the lobby again for one hour. This time VO lady called my name to come to the counter.

She gave me 221(g) blue slip asking for a detailed project documentation and purchase order from the employer and returned our passport. Does anyone went through similar 221(g) case. How much time it will take for approval if my employer provided the necessary documents immediately?
