Switching from F1 OPT to Academic H1B?
I am deciding about traveling to India next month. Has anyone recently went from F1 to academic H1B and gotten visa stamping without issues? I see from the forum that there are a lot more cases of 221G for academic visas. Is this true?

Thanks much for your help!

Pavi

H1B drop box
Hi

Has anyone got H1B visa stamped in India through drop box recently?

Actually I am travelling to India in March for 3 weeks and as per USATRAVELDOCS site I am eligible for drop box facility. Because of all the rumors going around I am thinking to cancel my trip if there is any risk at this time.
Need your suggestions. Your answers will help me a lot in making my decision.

Thanks.

H1/H4 Stamping Feb 24 @Hyderabad
Thank you all for sharing your experiences.

I went to Hyderabad consulate today( 24th Feb, OFC was on 23) for H1/H4 stamping, VISA is approved.

Our appointment was at 10:30, but we were in line at 9:15 and they allowed us as we were with my Kids( US citizens). We were out by 10:10 as interview was for less than couple of minutes. Below are questions,
1. Who is your petitioner
2.How long you have been working for your employer
3.Salary
4. What is your designation
5.Qualification

Questions to my wife :
1.How long you have been married
2. Are your kids are US citizens

Your guys are good to go, your visa is approved.. Didn't even ask for any documents other than Passports.

All the best guys.

H1 & H4 stamping experience on 24th Feb 2017 @ Hyderabad
Today I had been to US consulate for my H1 along with my spouse for H4.

Please see my experience as below:

My Background: My F1 was turned down 3 times in 2010 and 2011

After the initial screening and finger prints verification we were asked to wait in a hall for couple of minutes and then we were asked to move to one of the counters. Officer was an young lady. There was one H1 approved and one F1 approved before my turn.

VO: Please come
Me: Greeted and exchanged pleasantries

VO: Passport and I797 please
Me: Passed

VO: Who is your petitioner?
Me: Answered

VO: Where will you be working...@Employers office or End client?
Me: Employer's Office

VO: How many employees work for your petitioner?
Me: Answered

VO: What is your salary?
Me: Answered

VO: Which city are you travelling to?
Me: Answered

Now to my spouse:

VO: How long have you been married?
Spouse: Answered

VO: Do you any kids?
Spouse: Answered

VO: Whats your qualification?
Spouse: Answered

Again questions for me

VO: How did you got to know about this opportunity?
Me: My friend referred me for this position

VO: Whats your highest qualification?
Me: Answered

VO: Have you read the know your rights booklet?
Me: Yes

VO: Your visas have been approved , have a good day
Me: I was speechless and my spouse greeted her and we left quietly.

Just be confident and answer the questions confidently. Please dont carry any sealed envelopes(including transcripts) otherwise they will send you outside the security gate to open it and then you need to enter the consulate.
Thanks to Immihelp and the community who posted their experiences which helped me a lot. I believe my experience will also help someone.

Regards,
Vamshi

Travelling to India in March for H4 stamping
I am currently on H4 and stamping is expired but still within 1 year of expiry. I am planning to schedule visa interview appointment sometime in March for New Delhi consulate.

But after answering all the questions I get you are eligible for drop box facility, you don't need to appear for visa interview. But we checked with immigration attorney and he said drop box facility is no more available. Even many immigration websites are saying same thing. I am confused.

Please guide me whether drop box facility is still there or not? If it is not there how come they have not updated http://www.ustraveldocs.com site.

Anybody has any experience with drop box recently. Please share the experience.

F1 to H1B white slip 221g Hyd Consulate
Inteviewed on Feb 23. It went well, basic questions. Then he asked if i ever was out of status while on OPT. I did OPT for only 4 months after graduation and changed to H1B. So I was never out of status. He gave 221g white slip, said if I dont see update in 5 days, send an email to the address on the form. I have read cases of this admin processing happening for F1 to H1B. Very stressful. ANy info - please share.

H1B VISA first time stamping at Mumbai on Feb 17th
Hello all you nervous lads, thank you all for sharing your experiences.

My OFC appointment was on the 16th and VISA appointment was on the 17th Feb at Mumbai consulate.
After waiting in line for over 3 hours with no air condition and over hearing at least 4 H1B rejections it was finally my turn with the VO who rejected one of them.
ME: Good morning, how are you doing today?
VO: I am doing great! How about you?
ME: I am doing great myself, thanks for asking. (I wanted to mention that there was no air on our side but they did have it on their side as I could feel the cool breeze from the counter opening but I stopped myself – guess it helped)
VO: Please give me your passport and i797.
ME: I slid my PP and i797.
VO: Are you into hospitality? (Because of the name of the company I work for)
ME: No, I work for a real estate development firm that builds assisted living facilities.
VO: Oh, okay, that makes sense. So you studied at UIUC? What was your program?
ME: MS in Civil with emphasis in construction management and real estate.
VO: That is interesting, did you ever think you would build assisted living buildings?
ME: No, but with all the baby boomers it was inevitable. I started with residential but ended up here but I am enjoying what I am doing.
VO: So what’s your position?
ME: I gave that info.
VO: What’s your salary?
ME: I gave that info.
VO: Congratulations, your VISA is approved.
ME: Thank you very much.
VO: When are you heading back to India?
ME: Sorry!?
VO: Oh, I meant to the states?
ME: March 5th.
VO: Okay, we have to do some clearing on your student record, completely administrative at our end and you should not have to change your plan.
ME: (In my mind I am screwed) So what do you think is the timeline?
VO: Should be about 4 to 5 days, don’t worry, you’ll get an SMS when your PP is ready.
ME: (In my mind, this is BS, it’s going to be an extended vacation now) Okay, thank you and I left with a big fake smile.

As of today, Feb 22nd, my DS-160 tracking says “Administrative Processing” and my passport tracking says “Your passport is still with the US Embassy/Consulate”. My friend (same school with CS background and working in startup) did his process over 2.5 weeks ago in HYD and his VO told him his VISA was approved but it’s in Administrative Processing. Not trying to scare anyone, just sharing my experience. I have been told it’s with most of the F1 to H1B transitions. Anyway, I hope I am wrong and you guys and gals get your PP ASAP. Just be yourself and be confident and your interview will be a breeze.

Good LUCK!!!
