F1 to H1 appvoed @ Chennai
Repay time:

Thanks to everyone is this forum for all the help that I got before my interview.

Had my interview today (Mar 1st) at Chennai. There is no need to panic , it is business usual in the consulate. The VO was very friendly and I was asked just the basic questions like salary , opt start date, experience etc.

He added a yellow slip to my passport and told me that there is an issue with their SEVIS system and it will take some time to process and notify us.

I requested the VO to expedite the process by any chance since I have my return flight in 2 n half weeks. He assured that he will do his best. I will keep you guys posted.

Visa Interview at Delhi
I had my interview today. Absolutely no lines..After initial greetings the VO asked

VO: Is this your first job in H1b?
ME: No second. I had worked before with another company
VO: Which one?
ME: XYZ company
VO: When did you start working here?
ME: X/X/2016
VO: Whats your title?
ME: ABC

VO: Salary?
ME: Told

VO: Duties?
ME: Told

Then she said (after looking at her screen for few mins).: Everything looks good on your side. I would need additional time to process this. She gave me a 221(g) (yellow Slip ) which said "additional processing". She said it might be ready by end of next week.

I am not sure why this is the case? New Delhi consulate was practically empty today. I have a return flight in less than 3 weeks. Hope I get it before that. Its just an inconvenience. Not sure what additional processing are the doing. Does anyone know why/what?

Hello Everyone,

This is my time to return to this forum. Today 2/28/2017 9.15 AM my self and wife went for an interview.

Questions were simple. he asked my employer details, what they do and my salary. He asked me to give LCA. I gave VO whote bunch of documents with LCA plus client letter. VO did something in computer and gave us yellow slip to 'please be seatted' (he mentioned he want to dig my folder). We were waited till everyone completed their slot. Finally he called us and mentioned your visa has been approved.

While I was waiting, I have seen many CTS and other famous companies guys went thru L1s and H1s, some small companies had faced problem as mine. there were 4 persons got blue slip after yellow. only two person including me got approved after yellow slip. I guess my client letter, LCA and SOW might have made visa decision green.

H4 visa stamping
Hi,

I have a trip planned to India in next 2 weeks. I have got the approval for my H4 and I need to get my visa stamped in Delhi. However, I have had 2 US visa rejections before:
1) L1B visa rejection in 2013 as skill not specialized.
2) H1B visa rejection in 2016.

Do u think any of these visa rejections could affect the stamping of my H4 visa?

H1B and H4 visa
I'm posting here so that people get some genuine idea of what is going on, when misinformation and rumors are rife on this subject.

I would appreciate it if someone with similar experience responds with what happens after this.

Visa interview: Feb 27th at Mumbai.

Background: I have been working on an H1B visa for several years now. I changed jobs and needed to get passport stamped. My wife, who was until now on an F1 visa, had applied for an H4 visa and had received the approval notice. She needed to get her passport stamped due to the change in visa status to H4.

Interview (omitting some of our obvious answers):
VO and we exchange pleasantries.
VO asks for Passports and approval documents for H1B and H4. We slide it through.
VO: Who do you work for?
VO: Is <company name> a client or do work directly for them?
Me: I work directly.
VO: How much do you make?
VO (directed at both wife and me): What is your highest qualification?
Us: Masters degree (mentioned specifics. Both completed post grad at U.S. universities)
VO: Where did you two meet?
Us: India
VO: Oh, so not in U.S.?
Us: Correct.
Long pause at this point with VO staring intently at his screen. Seems to be cross checking data.
VO: Both your visas are approved. Your passport (to me) should be ready for pick up in 2 to 3 days, but your (to my wife) visa requires some administrative processing because of your education in the U.S. and will take about 10 business days.
Me: (I'm quite surprised since my wife is applying for H4 visa and her education should really not count) But we are flying out 10 days from now. We will need to cancel if it takes 10 business days.
VO: We try to do these things as soon as possible but this administrative process is required and takes time. We will contact you on this.
Us: Allright. Thanks.
We walk out.

By the time I reached home at the other end of Mumbai, I received a message saying my passport is ready for pickup- wish I had known, could have waited there and avoided extra trip tomorrow.

We were not given any 221g (White slip), etc. forms or asked to furnish any documents. Has anyone else been in this situation? Any information on the outcome would be appreciated greatly.
