Under Process at Embassy/Consulate
Hello--
I'm looking to see if anyone had similar experience with their passport renewal application.
My application is at the 'Under Process at Embassy' step for the past 55 days at the NY consulate. I raised a query under PRAMIT and I received a response that they are waiting for clearance from a competent authority in India. I am not sure how many more day I need to wait for my application to move to the next stage.
Below are some of the information regarding my application --
-- My last passport was issued in India
-- I have attached the Change of Appearance and Signature affidavit to my application as my current photo and the photo from 10 years ago do not match
-- My current passport will expire in another 7 months
Please let me know if any of you had to wait for more than 2 months to get their passport renewed.

Indian passport renewal- police verification initiated
I applied passport renewal for my minor daughter with address change. I provided US address to be printed in passport and provided the same as other address.
CKGS asked me to reffill another application in GOI website with atleast one address as Indian address. So i filled India address in Other address which we had aadhar card for but someone is living now in that address.
I received police verification initiated on Aug 20.
Im not sure what do now. Should i have to call Police station or wait? Even if i call and explain my situation how will they accept and clear for a person staying outside India.
I see many people got Police verification but for some its just an automated email and for some its real, does anyone know on what basis Its real or automated.
This is an unnecessary bureaucracy causing me lots of stress.

Indian Passport Renewal
Sharing my passport renewal experience with Atlanta Jurisdiction.
I wanted to have my passport as soon as possible for extension to be raised. So I opted for Tatkal renewal. After opting for that option, I was little weary on seeing few experiences of other people.Initially I had below doubts but eventually they got resolved.
1) US Residence proof : I used to get updates from few friends that best residence proof would be driving licence and because of COVID, Florida DMV was closed for quite a few time. I could not get my DL. Second best and quick option is to get State ID. Though I got few hiccups in getting State ID, due to COVID, I got it finally which resolved my first issue. Lease was another option I thought of, but I was not sure if 5/6 page of lease without any authorized signatory would be accepted or not.
2) No Change in Appearance Photo : I wanted my Passport asap and of course my appearance had not been changed much since last passport. Mostly if we have time, I read, It is better to choose change in appearance but it doesn't work for Tatkal passport. I had doubt whether photo need to be added with Glasses or without it. My 10 year old passport had it with glasses. Finally I chose to send photo with glasses(as it was in my last passport). Some people told me that you should send photo without glasses but CKGS change in appearance details clearly mentions that if you had glasses and now not wearing it, it is part of change in appearance. Also though bit costly, I got my photo from wallgreens and their software if really good. It takes care of all the criteria of photo that CKGS has.
3) Parent's name : In my old passport, my parent's name was added with Surname, Given Name format but when you fill details in current Passport form, It gets added in Given Name, Surname format. I was worried if that would be considered change in name or not. Fortunately it doesn't. So if anyone has such situation, you can be relieved.
4) Address : My old passport had my city name as 'SURAT" but currently online application form doesnt allow us to select 'SURAT'. It is either 'SURAT CITY' or 'SURAT RURAL'. Same thing may have happened to other cities as well. Just FYI, It is also not considered as change in address.
5) Police Verification : Finally after submission of all documents, on second day night, I got a mail for police verification. I told my parents to go to police for verification. But on the same day my passport got sent from consulate without further verification. It seems, that is default mail and it is better to get your police verification done, it will not stop our passport to be sent back to us. I got my passport on Friday itself and got police verification on Monday.
Advice :
1) Send only those documents that are part of check list. It may create confusion if there are more docs.
2) Send all docs in the order of check list you get. Use some U-Pins. Don't staple any docs.
3) Be ready with all extra docs, that you think will may get asked for and send them immediately.

Passport renewal submitted with my own return shipping UPS Airway Bill
Hello Friends!
Looking for someone with similar experience here.
I submitted my passport renewal application @CKGS NY location. The process went smooth and I finally see the status - Passport 'Received' at the CKGS application center and is at the 'Sorting Facility' where it is being processed for delivery. This status was updated on August-19.
However, the exception in my case is that I was unable to use the CKGS shipping option while submitting the application as my address won't pull up correctly in the application (I live on a brand new street address which is currently not updated everywhere). This is the reason I had to send a UPS prepaid envelope with my own Airway Bill (AWB) when I submitted the application. I updated the AWB details online on CKGS site per the process.
With someone using the CKGS Shipping option the status gets updated immediately (same day or within 24 hours) to Passport picked up by UPS/Fedex. However in my case it has been > 48 hours without any more updates (last checked on Aug-21 at 4.30 PM EDT).
If anybody had used their own shipping option, can you please share your experience? Should I be informing UPS to pick up my package from CKGS NY location? I am really looking for some advise.

Full payment is received and payment receipt is sent to your register email id.

-While making cashier cheque the banker did ask me for CKGS Washington DC address
-I did all the notaries from UPS
-Check CKGS holiday calendar before sending your application. They are close on Saturday/Sunday, therefore don't send your package on Friday they might not get it.
- After receiving police verification, I immediately informed my brother and told him to contact local police station. The police told him,first they will do the verification( by asking my neighbors) then u submit documents( copy of aadhar, passport, 2 photographs) to police station.

Indian Passport Renewal, San Franciso
My renewal was NOT a smooth process, took almost 50 days.
I had to email CKGS, SF Consulate multiple times. CKGS replied promptly but the Consulate didn't reply at all. Finally, I sent an email to Consulate General and I got the reply next day and also got my new passport issued.
