Indian Passport

Hello,

I sent my passport application to SFO on June 17th and it was acknowledged on Jun 25, 2020.
Also sent Marriage Certificate and Spouse First and Last Page self-attested, even though I did not opt to add my spouse to the passport but I selected in the Government form as Married.

I opted for India Address change to my permanent address, and received an email that police verification has been initiated, maybe auto-generated and there was no police verification done till now.

Timeline

Jul 23, 2020 - Thursday04:01 pm Passport picked up by FedEx.

Jul 22, 2020 - Wednesday07:57 pm Passport ‘Received’ at the CKGS application centre and is at the ‘Sorting Facility’ where it is being processed for delivery.

Jul 22, 2020 - Wednesday07:56 pm Application 'Reviewed' by Consulate and ‘In Transit’ to CKGS Application Centre.
 
Jul 03, 2020 - Friday12:12 pm Application is 'Under Process' at Consulate for decision making.

Jul 02, 2020 - Thursday08:37 pm Application is 'In Transit' to the Consulate.

I've completed all the steps for passport renewal but just hasn't send my documents to CKGS. Now in the final screen I see that address from CKGS to me is different than the one i choose. Does anyone know how to update the return address?

Hi guys,
I’m on step 4 of my passport renewal application. When I enter my USA address according to my State ID, the fed ex is not taking it as a valid address for shipping back my passport at doorstep. Instead it’s giving me option as hold at location.
I don’t understand this.
Should I use my lease documents/ utility bill as a address proof instead of State ID...
Has anyone faced similar situations?

I received my new PP today. As many people have commented, the email triggered for Police Verification could just be a glitch or an indication that the PP is being processed by the consulate. No need to get spooked about that email.

This is my second PP renewal in SFO and the process has definitely become easier as compared to previous years. Given that CKGS was closed until May 30, 2020, due to COVID-19, they're really doing a great job in getting the PP renewed in record time. (2-3 weeks total processing time).

I have read quite a few posts and I got some relief during the process. Here is my way of paying it forward by sharing my experience.
I will describe in detail with the hope that some parts may help someone and will divide the topic in 3 parts [Application, Timelines and Issues]

Part1: Application [Areas where there is no clarity]
# First time applying from US
# Requested the primary address to be US. On the NRI passport Seva application, in the "Other Address"; there is no help on what to put there
# I used my Current Indian Address where my parents live. I would also point out that Andhra Pradesh state split; so even though my parents are living in the same house, the address technically changed and it was different from the one in the passport
# For the phone number in the "Other Location" section, I provided my brother's phone number who lives in India

Updates were in multiple places : My US Phone, Emails, CKGS Tracking and my brother's phone

Part 3 : Issues/things that could have gone better
# I had a question on the "Other address" and raised a request to CKGS. Never got a reply but I had to take a logical guess (as described in Part 1) as my CKGS application was about to expire
# While the consulate is taking a decision; there is no way to find our what's going on
# The application indicated 6-8 weeks of time, so I was being patient but not gonna lie, a bit worried as well since the police verification already happened
# Lastly, CKGS is extremely busy due to the COVID; I suggest spend time and do a double check and triple check on the documents. I only attached what was requested in the CKGS checklist and nothing more

In all honesty, I'm very impressed that a "Regular" processing took literally 10 calendar days. Based on my observation of posts, other consulates seem to be taking time but Atlanta has been good.

Be patient and things will happen. I hope this helps someone in the similar situation on what to expect ! Good Luck.

I sent my passport renewal application on June 23 to the NY center. It was acknowledged by CKGS on June 30. On July 3rd it changed to 'Under Process at Embassy' and it has been in the same step since then. It has been almost 20 days and I have not received any notification. I have tried to contact CKGS but have not received any response. I see that many have received police verification atleast but I did not get that either. Does it take so long for this particular 'Under Process's step? Has anyone been in the same boat? Thanks in advance.

I sent my application to CKGS SFO for renewing my passport on June 29th. On July 22nd at 4 PM, I received an email from [email protected] that police verification has been initiated. My India address is the same as on my previous passport (which was also renewed from SFO in 2011). My US address (address to be printed in passport) has changed, and I provided the necessary proofs. There was no police verification initiated for me last time when I renewed it. A few years ago, I renewed for my wife and she didn't have a police verification initiated either. A friend of mine who renewed a few months ago didn't have such issue either. I am a bit surprised and also a bit worried. I am not sure why an address change in USA should trigger a police verification in India.

I noticed that multiple people on this forum posted that police verification emails were received in error and their passports were received by CKGS without the verifications actually completing. Some people have also suggested that this may have been a glitch in the system. It looks like most such experiences have been in the past few days.

Does anyone else also have similar experience from before?

This is my wife's second passport renewal from SFO. She applied on June 24th and on July 11 received the 'Initiation of Police Verification Request' auto-generated email after the passport was in Embassy for two weeks. She had opted to have US address printed this time. The Police verification triggered is for our permanent address in Faridabad which is her in-law's place.

My predicament - we have been in US for the last 20 years and we went to india last in 2016 when my mom passed away. Our house has been vacant for a while after that and now an extended relative stays there now to take care of the house. He cannot answer anything, I do not know have any idea about Faridabad (including police stations) and no neighbours will know her or me too :( The house is in my mother's and brother's name. I have no one in Faridabad now, My brother is posted in Bangkok.
 
Any idea, what happens in police verification in India? What are they supposed to verify if we are here in US. The phone numbers provided are USs, I don't think the police will call us from india.
I wish I could have shared my queries (woes) with the Embassy but that's not possible.

My Application was received by CKGS on Monday, July 13th. Currently it is under process with the SFO Embassy. Everything was moving smoothly, but I received the Police Verification Email n Friday, July 17th. I have seen posts below where people mentioned that it is auto generated and can be avoided. It's been almost 2 days but I didnt get any update. Can anyone suggest if I should take efforts and ask my parents back in India to look into this by going to the police station or is it something that is by default?
I don't want them to be troubled and go out with the whole pandemic situation just to get the passport dispatched later without it.

I sent in my passport renewal application to CKGS in San Francisco on Thursday, July 16. My FedEx courier status says the package was received on Friday, July 17 morning. Today is the third business day after the application package was delivered but the track and trace portal on my "My Account" portal remains unchanged. I have applied in the Tatkal process.

Anyone else who has applied in Tatkal and can tell me how long it took for CKGS to "receive" and "verify" documents before sending to consulate?
