Indian Passport

Got an email from ckgs with the following subject “Your application with your Passport has 'Returned' to the CKGS application Center and is at the ‘Sorting Facility’ where it is being processed for delivery.” Does this mean the passport renewal application was rejected ? Since everyone here seems to be getting “Reviewed” in their status update from ckgs. Worried about it, can some one share their experience. Thank you!

Below are the timelines. I faced two road blocks during the process. 1. I made a mistake in the recipient name on cashier's check and waited 1 week for CKGS email guidance before sending my physical application with a new cashier's check. Thankfully, they accepted the new check even if the number was different from the one mentioned in the order form on CKGS application. They responded to my email after 3 weeks after the new check was accepted. 2. Secondly, ensure that your browser is up to date and all the content in the NRI passport application form gets printed exactly as it looks online, especially the first page. Do not forget to sign first and last pages and ensure your signature matches the one in previous passport. Also make sure to follow photo guidelines and ensure you stick photos on the forms and also send 2 spare photos. All photos should be exactly the same. My application was on hold as my NRI PP application form first page did not print correctly and I did not sign the form. As a result the application was on hold for 10 days. But other than this the process was surprisingly fast. My application got approved in 1 day as per Tatkaal guidelines once it reached consulate. Received my new passport today within 72 hours after it was reviewed by consulate. No police verification was required and I also did not get any accidental system generated police verification email. I was really worried as my i-94 was going to expire in a few weeks; Now we have sufficient time to file an extension and ensure my status is maintained. I will strongly recommend people to make sure they double check every tiny detail before sending documents and submitting online forms. Maintaining consistency across all old/new documents and forms is the key. Hope this helps.

I am a permanent resident(Green Card) in the US . My previous Indian passport which is close to expiration has a US address. Nowhere in the reissue Indian passport application form do they ask you specifically for an address in "India" . They do ask for a permanent address which in my case was my US address . CKGS did not have issue with the paperwork and they passed the form to the SF consulate for processing.

I then got an e-mail from the SF consulate to provide an "Indian address" where I might have ever lived in the past. I provided them with an the address I lived in 2004 thinking this is just for their records. Now they have sent me an e-mail for police verification against that address, which is very weird.

I fail to see the value behind of doing police verification of a person in India who has not lived in that country for over 16 years and that too at an address which was not mentioned even in the previous passport. I remember renewing my passport in 2011 with far less problems than now.

Now I have to deal with the police verification in an Indian city and am not sure what i am expected to do or provide from US. I did call the police station and spoke to the SHO explaining the situation . He would not accept my Aadhaar/Election card on e-mail . He wants a signed statement. Not sure how I will even pay the Rs 1000 for the verification if thats what it takes if thats what it takes to get it done.

Is anyone else in the same situation ? How have you folks handled it ?

I opted to print India address in passport as that was the existing address on my current passport; also I'm on H1, so my permanent address is still India until I get a GC :)

I used CKGS shipping for convenience.

1 July - Passport delivered to CKGS
3 July - Received by CKGS, not verified
8 July - Verification complete, processing will continue
10 July - Under process at consulate
23 July - Initiation of police verification
25 July - Local police in India inquired for verification. Provided copy of all passports, parents passport, electricity bill
27 July - Application left consulate and in transit to CKGS, application in sorting facility, passport dispatched
28 July - Received new and old passport from FedEx

I must say that it was a smooth process. Fantastic efficiency from Indian Consulate. Thank you! Basically, from the time they picked up my passport for processing (23 July), it took just 5 days to receive my new one!

Hi all!
I need some help with Gov of India form.
I’m trying to renew my Indian passport. After filling and saving my Gov of India form, I noticed there are certain fields which came after saving the application.
e.g.
-Mothers passport number
-If occupation is selected private then Name of Organization
- Fathers passport number etc etc

I’m just wondering do we need to fill these by pen after printing the form. Or we can left it blank as those fields were not available online.

If anyone has done the same pls reply.
 I tried reaching CKGS on ph/ email. Got no response it’s been more than 2 days.

Hi all,
I want my US address to be printed on my passport. My old passport has my Indian address( but my parents don’t live on that address anymore) and I don’t have new Indian address proof.
In this case, should I select change of address in CKGS and GOV OF INDIA application form.
Kindly reply, if anyone had a same situation
It would be a great help.

Here is a timeline for Passport renewal at the New York jurisdiction.
I had requested a change of address and I had sent in self attested proof of my home address back in India.
I paid for FEDEX via the CKGS website for delivery of documents.
Due to the COVID situation the process is slower than usual. New York was the last one to open up so I hope the following timeline will help others applying for Passport renewal at this time!

Hello,

I am trying to renew my Indian Passport which is due to expire this year.

I have completed all online steps in the process including completing required forms on the CKGS and Govt of India websites. I have NOT shipped my materials yet. I now realize that I inadvertently made an error in the Government of India NRI Passport Application form.

- Is there a way to rectify errors in the Govt of India NRI Passport Application form? The CKGS System is not allowing me to create a new application from scratch.

Kindly help.
