L1B Approved on 23rd Jan at Chennai
Friends,
Thanks a Ton for the tips from people in this forum. It was realy of a great help.

I cleared my L1- B interview yesterday and I must say it has been very smooth.
When I approached the counter, the VO said good morning.
Then I replied "Very good morning officer. Hope you are doing good today"
I was asked the following questions
1. How long have you been with X Org?
2. What is your Indian Salary?
3. What is your specialisation?
4. Can you elaborate a bit more on your specialisation sn what are you going to do in the US?

Thats it and then came the golden words "Seems your case is approvable, your passport will be sent to you in the next 5-6 days"

Things that I observed around
1. Its very important to keep your confidence up.
2. Maintain a good eye contact
3. Dont worry and start feeling nervous even if you said some thing wrong
4. Most importantly, have a smile on your face.

All the Very Best !!!!!

L1-B Approved in Chennai on 20th Jan
Hi Friends,

I had studied this forum for long and i know that inputs from this forum are very helpful...So please keep up to date while u start preparing for this Category of Visa.
I had my Visa scheduled at 11 am on 20th jan. Once you are in queue...i have seen that the processing is very fast...it takes only half an hour for complete process once u enter the consulate.
so be ready with all the docs. If you have made any mistakes or forgot any docs...just dont worry...keep your cool. Only docs that are important are:
1. DS-160 form
2. Interview appointment letter
3. 3 copies of your Petetion(1-797) and I-129s forms.
4. Passport
5. DD and bar code slips

These are the only one's they are concerned about. But take all documents with you as they can ask to provide any.

The VO asked me following question:
1. How long in ur present company?
2. What is your total experience?
3. what is your salary/annual package in INR?
4. Tell me something about your project?
Me: I tried to elaborate this one. when they ask u a subjective question, grab that opportunity and explain them as much as possible and in simple language...so that they understand actually what you are doing.
5. Why are only you required in US?
Me: again a very important question. plan your answers in a way, that you can continue from where u left for last answer. This is just for simplicity so that they don't get the feel that you are lying. consistency in your answers is also important.
6. So you work in Testing?
Me: i had heard that using this word "Testing" is like bringing invitation to Rejection. But believe me guys, if you know you are doing specialized work, and no one else can do that, you don't have to worry about anything.

VO: Ok...your Visa is Approved.

Above mentioned points by me, or anyone else in this forum, are only their way of looking at things. If i would tell you the truth....It even requires sheer LUCK. No one has yet came to a conclusion as on what basis the Visas are approved or rejected.
So don't go there thinking that yours will be rejected. Just believe in yourself and your loved one's. it will go through. :)

Niks.

L1-Blanket approved- Chennai Consulate 20th January
Thanks to all the members who posted their previous experience. before I begin describing my moments which lead to success, one thing I would like to tell all the visa aspirants especially L1-B.

DONT GO WITH A MINDSET THAT YOUR VISA WILL BE DENIED JUST BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO OTHERS.

L1-B visa is purely case by case basis and you cannot assure anything on the positive or negative side for sure based on previous cases.

Ok, here is my experience

My interview was scheduled for Jan 20th 11 am where i appeared in consulate an hour before. The crowd seems to be pretty high so be there atleast an hour before.

Step 1: Keep your DS-160 form and interview letter ready which alone is required for you to receive a unique token number until you get a decision on your visa. All the proceedings inside will happen based on this number which is more or like a token number.

Step 2: Once you enter in your number based on current serving will appear in a monitor and then you have to provide you folder which contains the list of documents to the appropriate queue officer.

Step 3: Officer which you had dealt in Step 2 will provide you another counter number where you have to appear for your Fingerprint.

With all the above steps you will be completing your initial formalities and will be asked to proceed to next building ( The destiny :) )

Step 4: you will be asked for your visa category and for L1 there is a seperate queue where the DD's which you had brought along will be acquired.

Step 5: Then you will be entering a seating area where the VO's interview people based on the token numbers which appear outside their counters ( Your number is something you got when you entered the consulate)

Be aware and watch the monitors all the time as the numbers appear were not in order and its random , so for example if no 1 is called in counter 22 number 2 can be called at counter 10 and so on. So be aware as there are no audible voice systems to read out the number.

Finally my number appeared at counter 22 display

VO'S Questions and My response.

VO: Hi how are you
Me: I am fine , thanks for asking. How are you?
VO:I am good, Thank you. Could you please pass on the folder
Me: I gave the Passport along with necessary documents( which you might have already been aware of) to the VO.
VO:which place are you going to?
Me: My travel location
VO: and the Client name?
Me: Client name
VO:So you already had an L1-B visa?
Me: yes it was issues on so and so date it got expired so i am filing for a new one
VO: Oh ok. What is your Specialization

( Guyz, above all was just formalities or paper work, so dont ever get nervous or tensed if something like paper work mistake, form missing, some corrections or so. Keep yourself cool , because you are gonna need lot of energy to answer this question, particularly appearing for L1-b at this time)

Me: I have explained my Specialization very confidently without breaking my flow anywhere. Below are my observations

1) More than your specialization, the way you communicate to VO is very important, having said that tune your communication and give your best
2) You got to impress the VO within 30 seconds of your interview begining where she/he must decide you are specialised
3) to do that keep your eye contact and make the VO nod to your statement which symbolically convey that she/he confirms your statement which you just delivered. ( American officers are very expressive and gesture based , so that you can easily read their mind)

VO: Ok your visa is approved and will be couriered in 5 days.
me: Thanks Officer have a good day.

Good luck guyz.

Sorry for the spelling mistakes above as this forum doesnt allow me to go up and correct it. Also typing in a hurry

My suggestion would be don’t go for l1..especailly blanket. The rejection ratio is very high.

I have answered confidently…more than 6+ experience in s/w industry..

Explained about company prop. Tools and also domain experience.

Finally VO told me to file for L1 individual instead of L1 blanket.

I practiced well before interview...but all went in vain…its bad..

If your are unique….still the rejection chances is 90%

My L1B VISA & my wife?s L2 VISA got approved on 17th Jan
My L1B VISA & my wife’s L2 VISA got approved on 17th Jan at US consulate Chennai.

Be confident & dont get nervous in any situation.

We had a bad time at document varification counter, as it took 30minutes more for my case as compared to others. I had to wait for 30minutes at document verification counter. They mentioned there is some issue related to expiry date of Blanket petition mentioned in two different forms.
Somehow this issue got sorted out in their system & they allowed me to appear for interview.

After a round of Frequently asked questions for 15 minutes, officer said those magical words....your VISA got approved & you will receive your passport with VISA in next 5 days.
I am feeling relieved now.

Guys prepare well on your speciallized knowledge & company proprietary tools. Try to reach there 45minutes before your interview schedule. & once again....dont get nervous in any situation.

Thanks to IMMIHELP, all posts were really helpful in preparing for interview.

Criteria for selecting L1B
Hi All,

I came to know like now the rejection rate of L1B is very high.Based on which criteria they are rejecting.
1) Whether counslate doing some home work on our application , if so what is the base for them i mean other than DS-160
2) They are validating only based on the interview questions
3) They are following some other criteria
