I am 27 and I have over 7.6 years of experience and my company has filed L1A visa for me and waiting for appointment. But there are few in my company who says that these days VO issues visa only if you are bit older and have more than 10 years of expereince. Is it true? People who have got L1A stamped pls reply. How can I present my case. My designation is Team Leader? Also is it mandatory to carry PRD? Appreciate any reply

L1A Blanket approved
Hi
Thanks for this forum for providing rich inputs.
Our VIsa was approved on 17th Jan.

The questions were similar to ones discussed in the forum.

Having good experience, strong PRD, appropriate title to suit level of experience and confidence in approach are essential.

Applicants with family get a separate queue and have an edge to prove the seniority.
 ( I guess).
All the best

L1A Visa Approved
Thanks to immihelp. I have got some useful info from this site.

However, let me add some new perspective here depending on my experience and my observation about how others fared in the interview. Firstly, you would get easy questions if the documentation you have submitted contain sufficient information. My PRD documentation was strong. I have gone through at least 5-6 PRDs as sample and took a lot of good stuff from each of them and got my blanket petition approved. Have prepared well and all I got were very easy questions.

1. How long you are with ABC company?
2. How long you are with your XYZ client?
3. What is your Annual Salary in India?
4. Who is your current manager?
5. What is your current manager's job title?
6. How many people you are managing today
7. How many of them report to you directly?

To my wife:
1. How long you are married?
2. What is your husband's birthday?
3. Can he cook?

Then, my VO asked my 3 year old son 'Who is he?'. My son was not in good mood. Anyway, He said that my visa was approved by the time he started talking to my wife.

My takeaway is that a strong PRD is essential to get you a visa. The visa Officer has at most 3-4 minutes for each candidate. No way, a decision is made based on the questions asked at that time. The decisions are purely made by what you presented about your work and the interview is merely a formality. Look at the questions I got. They are not very difficult ones. Knowing the stringent government rules in US, I can get away with these questions only if the Consulate have done their home work. What is the key input to their homework? Your PRD...

He said "It looks like your visa might be approvable."
Then he started typing something on PC for around 1 minute and then asked.

There was a long wait, so I paid attention to a lot of what the VO had to say. All of the questions were the same as on this site.

I did see this:

At least two of the men VO's worked in IT. (I checked the consulate website.) These men are the hardest to convince of specialized knowledge.

The women VO do not know about IT and are easier.

I didn't see anyone with less than 3 years of experience stamped, even with the women.

If you are too general and can't give specifics about your specialization, you won't pass. I saw a VO laugh at another guy who said "I gather requirements..." Maybe he was right.

Oh, and from watching the other people, I passed.

Hi,
We had gone for the interview in Aug2011 in Chennai. The few questions that were asked to us were.:-
What is the name of the Client Co.
What are your special skills.
Why is it essential for you to be in the US.
Then a few very general questions were asked to my wife as to when we met and where was the wedding held.
Where were the Kids born etc.
The key as almost every one says is to take a deep breath and appear confident. It would just take 15min for the interview to be done .The idea is to convince the interviewer that your presence in the US is vital. The postings were very useful to us.Thanks. and All the Best !!

Thanks to immihelp and all the people who shared their experiences, which gived better idea to prepare for an interview.

Better be there atleast 45 minutes before reporting time to complete the initial process.

Interview questions are same as posted in discussion board.

1) Company Name
2) Years of experience
3) How long with the company
4) Client Name
5) Work Location
6) Project Details

One needs to be confident and an eye-to-eye contact is very important. They can make out if you are lying. VOs are scrutinizing well enough to make sure you have special skills.

All the best!
