Firstly thanks to immihelp. Questions posted in this site are very helpful.

Here are the questions asked in my PA

1. What is your specialization
2. How long you have been working in this specialization
3. who is your client
4. How long you have been working on this project
5. Tell me about your project
6. Where are you going to work in US

VO has typed some details in teh system and tuned to me stating your visa is approved.

My suggestion to you is try to keep your confidence up and concentrate on the quesitons asked by VO. Provide your answers confidently

Can any one please help me on how to start answering the question "What is your specialization?"
  As per my understanding, this is the most vital question for L1B and while answering this question I just want to know what should be the first few words...

         Help is highly appreicated

What will help us more are the answers that you have given.

I have a L1B Blanket interview in New Delhi. I will be going with my Wife and My daughter . What type of question should i expect and prepare and what are the chance that rejection can happen.

I had earlier a H1B visa. But this is the first time going for L1B Blanket. Hnce was very tensed. Didn't sleep the entire previous night.

Interview was scheduled at 8:15 AM. But reached early at 7 AM.
Had an initial issue with car parking. People going for interview at kolkata embassy can park on Camac street infront of Pantaloons.

Had 1 year old child so landed in front of Counter 6 by 8:25 AM. There was a medium built asian-origin American (probably chinese origin).

Me: Hi. Good morning.
VO: Good Morning. How r u ?

Me: I am good. thnx. how r u ?
VO: Good good.

To my wife first
VO: maam how long r u married?
Wife: YYYY ZZZ

VO: whats the age of your child?
Wife: ZZZ

VO: Is she your only child?
Wife: Yes

Now turning to me:

Question: What is your specialized knowledge?

Answer: I am working for YYYY for last 6 years and 8 months and my entire experience is for the same client YYYY X. I have been involved in a number of Implementation, Rollout and Support Projects for YYYY . I have a deep understanding of YYYY business processes, methodologies and custom components.. ( I had prepared for this question and memorized the answer by heart. Had few more lines to say about the current project. But was pre-empt here with next question)

Question: Sir I understand that you are doing a great job for YYYY X. But you are doing it from offshore only. Why do u suddenly want to go to US ?

Answer: Actually the current assignment is a new project where I was involved since the inception doing feasibility study, effort estimations and proof of concepts. Now to deploy the proposed solution I need to be at US to interact in a regular basis with the end users, super users, IT managers and design approvers. (Pre-empted here with the next question)

Question: What are you going to do there?

Answer: (I was repeating what I said in the last answer) I need to be at US to interact in a regular basis with the end users, super users, IT managers and design approvers to design and implement the proposed solution. And also provide support during testing phase… (Now the officer was little impatient and stopped me and asked the next question)

Question: You are not getting my question Sir. I need to know what you will develop there.

Answer: Sorry Sir. Actually the solution would be for effective YYYYYYY for YYYY XX business requirement.

Question: What’s your educational back ground?

Answer: YYYY YYYY X

I saw him stamping something on my petition. And then with a smiling face said the golden words “Congratulations Sir and Madam, your visa is approved. Have a great day.”

Few suggestions for IT service provider employees: Never speak of any 3rd party software that you might be specialist. For example Java, dot net, Oracle Apps (which is my specialization, but I never uttered the word oracle in the entire interview).
Dont try to showcase any certifications that you might have done even if it is a rare one.

I even saw the guy before me getting his L1B denied as he spoke about some insurance certification as his specialized knowledge. The officer specifically said him that we can always train another person to achieve the certification.

I believe the key to my visa approval was my client exposure of 6 years and 8 months. And preparing for the standard questions really helped and gave confidence during interview.

Hats off to immihelp in guiding me with the standard questions.

Answer: Project Manger

Question: What are our responsibilities?

Answer: Planning coordinating managing, effort estimations, status reporting

Question: Do you have Hire and Fire authority

Answer: Yes

Question: Who is your client.

Answer: XYZ

Question: What is your team size. at offshore also onsite.



What is your salary India and onsite.

I had my visa interview at Chennai on Aug 23 below are the questions asked to me

1) How long you are going to stay in U.S.?
2) Have you been to U.S. before?
3) What is your company?
4) How long have you been with this company?
5) What is your salary?
6) What you are going to do in the United States?
7) Who is your client?
8) What are all the development tools used to develop this application?
9) With these skills many people are available in U.S., why do you want to go?
   I answered all the questions and was able to convince the VO. Thanks for this Immigration help site and for all the folks who share their experience here. It is of great help .

I will be having my L1 B visa interview in the first week of September. So I just wanted to know what is the L1 B visa acceptance chances in Hyderabad.

I don't see a single post on L1 B visa acceptance on this site rather there are a lot of posts on Visa rejections in Hyderabad.

Indeed this website was quite helpful to me in understanding the type of questions which could be asked for an L1B interview and helped me prepare for the same.

I appeared for my PA on Aug 23, 2011 at New Delhi. My slot was at 10.15 am. I reached at 9.45 and without any delay was allowed to enter. I was with my wife and small kid so I got a preferential token no and did not have to wait. I submitted my docs and got my token no. After the initial doc check i was asked to submit my draft and go for the biometrics. After the biometrics I just waited for about 10 mins that saw my token no flash at the screen for counter no 15. I collected my file and went ot the counter for my interview. I was a little bit nervous but held my nerves.

I was asked the usual questions for L1B:
- Which client.
- How much exp with ur comp and with the client
- What is your role
- What specialisation
- How many ppl in ur company hv this specialisation
- What is the similarity in ur exp and the work u'll be doing at client site
- What tool i'll be using and my skill set with it

I answered all the questions briefly and to the point, highlighting my knowledge and importance in the project. I also mentioned that I am a key resource and I have customised the tool as per the client's requirements. I observed the VO was also doing sm research on her computer screen.

The officer typed something on the computer screen and suddenly came out the golden words - "I am issuing your VISA".

NO questions asked to my wife.

I thanked the officer and came out jolly.
Suggestions: Be confident, answer with assertiveness. Be brief and to the point.
Be calm, think and don’t be nervous.
For L1B, you need to display you are a key resource.

Hi all,
           First of all, thanks for all your inputs on the various questions posted. Has anyone been to the Chennai consulate for their L1 B Stamping (not a new L1 B petition). Could you please share with me the questions/experience on the same.

My interview would mostly be scheduled by end of this month. I am a little scared thinking about the whole process. It would be very helpful if anyone can share the deatils.

Any help in this process is highly appreciated.
