L1, L2 Visa

I had interview at 10 went in with some much of expectation and confidence that i can crack it.

After usual procedures went to interview hall. As someone posted that lady with chubby smiling face was approving lot visas i wished to go that counter. But saw she rejected right in front of me. my turn came.

1. What will you do in US ?
                As xxx I will be working on End to end implementation of the project by assisting my client in analysis,design,development and implementation. I will also work on customizing and migrating the existing application to latest technologies by using my specialist knowledge both in domain and technical front
2. Why your company selected you ?
                As Im the senior most developer in the project and along with my specialist skills
3. Did you get any specialist training ?
                Yes I got. I got directly from my client when my company won this project.
4. Who is your client ?
                xxx

She typed something and said please give the these forms to your hr and ask them to apply in different category. Got the blue slip too.It marked PIMS need update

May be the third question was a twist for me. either i should have asked "shall i explain?" or she should have asked. I was relucant to ask as many said dont give loose words or answer other than what they ask. luck needs to be there. But im sure there were lot of rejections today

First of all i would like to thank all those who has added there experiences here.Here is mine.

My first suggestion is , please be cool and dont be in a hurry while explaining.Its very important that one should understand the visa category. L1 visa is for one who has specialized knowledge in the particular(technical skill is not specialized knowledge). So, whenver you start with the interview make sure you speak about your work in the company specifically. Also be crisp while answering since i have seen that Consulate officer does not want to listen to too lengthy answers.Also , greet the officer when you see him.
Here are my interview questions.
1)Why you are going to US ?
2)What is your specialised knowledge?
3)How many members are there in your team and why you are only going?
4)whom you will reporting there?
Answer for this should be your company's manager who is residing in US. Dont ever tell the client manager name.

Questions are all teh same asked to everyone. Please keep in mind, if you are confident ,then you will have your visa.
Guys , this is just an interaction among you and visa officer, come on, this is not the end of the world. So, cheer up and get the visa. If you are lucky , then you will get the young good looking gal visa officer who is very kind in giving visas .I had my luck :)

Today I have attended my L1B visa interview and got it rejected. just want to share my experience here.

As usual completed all the formalities and waiting in a queue. Watching the questions and reply from interviewee. My good time I did see continuously 4 Visas rejected(including family and L1 due to some reason)

This is my turn, Going to counter without loosing confident, and handed over the documents to the Consular.

VO: Why are you going to US?

I am going to US to test the YYYY Project and to support the certification testing from XX(my office location) for our one of the major client ZZZ.

She was looking my face when I speak and verify the things with the form ‘Business Executive Program’ given by my company, and typed something on her system and said ‘Please ask your company to apply VISA through another category’ and she marked ‘Your blanket L-1 application is not clearly approvable under section 8 CFR 214.2 (I)(ii)(D) and INA 101(a)(15)(L)’ on form 221(g) and gave it to me.

Without knowing the reason I came out of the counter. Eventhough I have preapared on my level best. Now I believe there should be luck work for you.

I reached Consulate 30 minutes before my PAI schedule(9.15).Finished my Security checks,Docklet verification,Biometric and Fee Payment and was asked to wait.
Then I headed towards the Interview counter.

vo:who is your client?

me:22 Months
VO:why you?why not other can do this task?
me:I have implemented the same tool in my previous projects for the same client
also,I have nearly 5 years of experience in this type of xxx project
vo:why dont you do your implementation from here in India?
me:Since the clients legacy system is owning my their vendor,who doesnt have offshore support team here in India.
Vo:to whom you report there in US/
me: to my Onsite manager
Vo: Iam approving your VISA and you will your passport in a Week
me:thank you sir.

My Kind advise,please refrain from narrating bald man and fat lady while posting your comments.Defenitely,the offcials may walk through this site and may feel bad.This may also be a possible reasons,why there are so many rejections here in chennai specifically.

If we could able to justify or convince why US needs me for that specific job,the officals will certainly grant Visa.

First of all I want to thank Immihelp for their wonderful site and to those people who have shared their experiences. This really helped me alot.
Below is the summary of my experiences:-

My interview was scheduled at 8 a.m. I reached to consulate office around 7 a.m. Security guard told us to wait outside. Then, they first 7.30 batch and then 7.45 batch and finally 8.00 batch. So, I joined the queue. At outside they will check your passport and appointment letter. After this one round of security check will be there before going inside. Then I went inside here they will be another round of security. They will check your bag and you. Please don't carry any mobile, CD, Pendrive, Bag, Sealed Envelope etc.
After this I was told join the queue for document verification. During document verification i.e. around 7.45 a.m. they told me that the amount of DD I brought has changed from 1st Oct so I need to bring the DD of revised amount. Now here the problem begin. I told them that in the internet its given the same amount and also in the guidence sheet the amount is same. But they mentioned it was same before 1st Oct. Now it got reduced. I told then keep it anyway its DD of more amount. Then the guy at counter told me to wait. He will ask consulate and let me know. At 8.30 he called my name and told that I have to bring new DD of revised amount. Also, he mentioned that I have to bring it before 12.30 p.m otherwise I have to come with new DD tom mrng at 7.30 a.m. So, I rush towards exit gate as I dnt want to push it on tom. But the problem was I was not having cash that much in that time and also I dnt have any number to contact as I have left the mobile phone in my hotel where I was staying. Now, to search telephone booth I took auto and went approx 2-3 km. Finally I got the telephone booth. Sadly his meter was too bad. For few seconds of talk also so much charge was coming. I remember only my home no so told my bro to transfer the money to my account. So please carry ATM card with you. Now, I was looking for the bank. There were lots of bank within the range 2-3 km. However I was looking for HDFC bank in case they will cancel my previous DD and make the new one. I got transferred money as backup in case cancellation was not possible. Finally I reached HDFC Bank. But the time was only 9.35 so I have to wait till 10 as bank will open at that time. I was little tense during this time. Finally at 10, I entered the bank and asked if they cancel my DD and make the new one. They told to talk to Branch Manager. Now, he was available in his cabin. After 10 min he came, I asked him the same thing and told him that I have made this DD from my salary account. He told to write an application. I was not having any blank sheet so I took it from them only.( So please carry pen and paper). Now, I dnt remember my account no. again mobile was not with me. So, I requested the Bank manager to allow me from his landline cabin phone. He polite said go ahead and call. Thank to god such a nice person he was. Again i called home and get the account no and then submitted the application. Finally I got the new DD. it was 10.25 by tat time. I rushed to auto and reached consulate at 10.40 a.m.( Autodrivers are bloody hell.. for few km they were charging 50-60 rs. so please keep plenty of change with you). At this time no need to join the queue directly tell them u went inside and then came out for DD. Show them a letter that u have got for coming outside. Again after security check I went inside. I went to same counter as it was closed tat time so i went to adjacent counter. After document verification they took finger scanning and finally tat lady told me to go to next building. In the next building they told me to sit. Time was around 10.55 a.m. After, 5 min I asked them if I need to submit the DD as no one was telling anything and i was sitting simply. Then they told yeah you have to submit the DD on counter no-*. After submitting again they told me to sit. After 5 min I again told them that I had appoinment at 8 am. For DD I went out then they moved me to queue. by 11.10 my turn came. The counter i went was tall guy and looks very serious. He has rejected 2 and approved 3 before me. The left counter was one lady (she was slim with short hair and serious face). She was rejecting too much so I was praying I should not get her counter. The right counter was also a lady( little cubby and smiley face). He approval rate was nice. So I was thinking of getting that counter. But I got the tall guy counter. He was looking serious. My conversation with him:-

Me:- Gud Mrng Sir
VO:- Gud Mrng. How are you.
Me:- I am fine. thank you. How are you.
VO:- Fine. Give me the documents
Me:- slided the documents
VO:- so which company u r working?
Me:- ZZZ
VO:- so u r going for which client?
Me:- sir my company YYYY is product base company so I am not going for any client. I am going to my headoffice.
VO:- so wat product it makes.
me:- we develope YYY product.
VO:- wat..? I didn't get it.
Me:- i told YYY
(you should speak slowly such that he will understand)
VO:- wat does it do
Me:- i was just explaining blah blah blah.. meanwhile he was doing and typing something in his computer.
VO:- Sorry to interrupt you can you place your left index finger to scanning machine.
Me:- I have put.
VO:- Whats your exp.
Me:- ZZZ years
VO:- Where you working previously?
Me:- YYYY is my first company. I selected through campus recruitement.
VO:- which campus recruitement
Me:- College campus recruitement
VO:- Which college
Me:- AAA college
VO:- how much is your salary
Me:- sir BBBB per annum. By the time he was writing in my I 129.
VO:- Your visa is approved
Me:- I couldn't hear properly.
VO:- your passport will reach you through courier in 3 working days.
Me:- Now I got big sign of relief.
I told Thank you and have a nice day ahead. and came out.

Overall it was 2-4 min interview. I was little nervous because of tat DD drama. But i tried to smile always wen i reach the counter. I will suggest be confident and smile. Look into his eyes and answer slowly. Tell some complex jargan which is der in your petition as i mentioned my product name that he tried to understand. explained it briefly(very briefly). And most important thing pray to God and belive in it.

On the day of interview i went 40 minutes before my scheduled time.

Questions asked there was:

Who is working wih his xyz company?
Where you working previously or are you working currently.
How long he is been associated with the company?

Questions asked to me were :

1) How long have you been with current company ?
2) Who is ur client ?
3) Where are you moving in US ?
4) What are ur expertise ?
Speak something related to domain knowledge rather than specifying technical jargons.Plz dont use terms like Java/.Net/C/C++/Mainframe etc.
5) Are you married ?
6) What is ur Indian & equivalent US Salary ?
7) Is someone from team accompanying you ?
   Say NO if you want to prove your skills.
Specify something like you will be working with Global delievery team at onsite.
8) Where will you placed in US...Hotel or Appartment ?
9) Who will be paying for ur boarding n lodging ?
10) Strange but true, asked me about two qualities of father ?

At Last he looked at me and said,you will get ur passport within 4 days.

Though its late... i would like to share my experience with you all...
And Here is my experience...

My Interview is scheduled by 8:30AM on 24 Sep 2010.

Reached the consulate 1 hour early but security didn't allowed me to enter into the consulate surroundings.
Waited there itself for half an hour, then security called up... entered the consulate.
Submitted all the required documents and they guided me for finger prints and then waiting for the interview

1) Why are you going to US?
2) Who is your client?


Looking at the system and said the golden words... you will receive your passport ina week time.

My suggestion is be cool and don't forget that L1 is especially for specialized knowledge people... try to project yourself that you are the specialized person than others...

I went to the counter and asked my passport. I gave my old passport and new passport. First they looked in my old passport and asked belwo questions

1)Have you been to US. Yes
2)How long have been. X yrs
3)When did you go and when did you come back?
4)Which client your were working previously.
5)What is ur current client
6)what is ur current project?
7)What is your role in this project in US?
8)How long have been married?
9)How long is your kid
10)How many years total exp
11)How long have u been working in this client?

Finally they told you visa is approved.

I was so happy to hear and left home happily.
