My L1- Blanket and L2 got approved on 12th August
Hello, all
First.. thanks to this forum, which helped me to prepare for the interview. My interview was on 12th August @ Chennai. I reached consulate with my wife and 2 kids at 11:20 am where as the interview was at 11:45 am. Completed the regular screening quickly as I had kids :-). If you have kids with you, need not wait in the Qs. The interview counters had long Qs and many people were sitting and waiting for their turns. Puffs so many rejections. After 15-20 mins of waiting we are asked to stand in a Q where there was only one family at the counter. The person was aking too many questions. Surprisingly he was asking the architecture and all. Finally he was handed a blue sheet and rejected his case, The person tried to speak some thing and was told not to argue... oh God my Heart was pumping already. My turn..
Me and Wife: Hello good morning Sir,
VO: With bright smile GM to you all.
VO: Push me the folder.( I did So)
VO: How long you are working for YYYY ?
Me: 6 years 8 months.
VO: Quite long time a big smile.
Me: Yes and smiled.
VO: So YYYY is your client ?
Me: Yes Sir.
VO: What is your designation ?
Me: Application Architect.
VO: Let me verify your thumb impression, please keep your both thumbs on the scanner.
Me: Yep sure ( I did so and he asked my wife also do the same. My little kids were curious, He noticed that said with big smile, Infact we do not check for kids, If kids are interested let them also keep their thumbs on the scanner. Kids happilly did so and he said 'Good job'.
Next question:
VO: What is your highest qualification ?
Me: Masters in Business Administration.
VO: Oh ! you have done MBA and how come you are in to technical line ?
Me: ( Heart beat was thumping). I explained the technical courses/trainings I have completed. ( I was confident and told the facts).
VO: Good, impressive !.
VO: What is your marriage date?
Me: xxth month, year.
VO: (asked my wife standing next to me with the kid) Is it correct.
My Wife: Yes, he is right.
VO: When is your wife DOB ?
Me: With a smile xxth month year, In fact me and my wife share the same date of birth.
VO: Started laghing loudly.. oh this is cheating..cheating.. what did you present her ?
Me: a watch..
VO: (checked me wife, she said yes with a smile) wow thats cool, you have a good husband, who presents you something, not many hubbys does that.. and he was laghing.

( In between discussion he was entering many things to the PC)
Finally golden words.
VO: Your VISA is approved sir, You will get the passports in a weeks time !
Me: That's great, Thanks, thanks a lot.
My wife also said the same thing.
He also wished good luck and handed over the I-129S and asked me to keep one with me and another to be given to the officer at the border.
I was really relieved.. We asked my daughter to wish him and she did and he replied back with a big smile.

Note: Be confident, do not lie and make a story of your own. That will make you more nervous.
Overall it was good experince and I really thank god for this smooth process.
The VISA officer was really cool and he was speaking with smile. Even with the person whom he rejected.
One thing I noticed with the family ahead of me ( to whom VISA got rejected). The person's wife was standing way behind the counter and she was not at all looking at the counter. She was carrying a kid and she was just busy with kid telling do not do that., this and some time scolding.. she never looked at the officer. This may/may not be the reason for reject, but Please ask your wife to stand next to you and keep listening to the officer.

Good luck to all and once again.. Thank God !!

L1 B Visa Interview Experience
I was previously rejected a L Blanket visa and my company filed an individual petition on my behalf. During my L1 Blanket interview, the officer gave me a white letter which stated that your case is kept under pending status and you can re apply under an individual basis or on H visa type.

So I went through the entire process again (preparing visa fee receipts, filling up of the DS 160 etc.) The VFS call centre in Mumbai are a confused bunch- each time I called them they had a different answer! So please be absolutely sure and don't trust them blindly.

At the interview- I was asked the same set of questions as my blanket interview and my visa was approved.

Questions asked:
Why do you want to go to the US?
What are your proposed duties at the US Office?
What are currently duties?
Why this transfer?

Tips:
Carry all your documents in a Harmonium Folder, easily available in any local market. Tag all your docs in each section- so your not busy looking for any papers at the interview. Recommended to not open this folder unless asked for any specific doc.

Be confident! I know everyone says this but its true... just dont get intimidated by the crowd or anything.

Maintain eye contact and keep talking, don't wait for each question to be asked. The officer might not look at you and start looking at the screen.. but that's ok as they are still listening to you.

Be prepared in advance as the questions are quite straight forward, and there is just 5 minutes for them to make a decision..

All the best to all of you.. This site has been truly helpful for me.

L1b & L2 Approved @ Chennai Consulate on 12-Aug
Many Thanks & Kudos to the team who built & manage this site !! It was extremely helpful.

Our L1B & L2 (Wife & 11 month-old Son) Interview was scheduled for 9.45am, 12th Aug 2010 @ Chennai US Consulate.

We were @ the consulate by 9.00am. Stood outside in the Q waiting for the 9.45am batch to be called and then went inside by 9.15am. (Takeaway 1: Just reach mx 30mins earlier thn ur time).

We got our appointment letters checked and went into the scanning room. Our files were scanned. Security asked my spouse to taste the baby food.

Finally we came to the lobby for getting the documents scanned. Because of the kid, we were the first one in the Q for documents scan. He scanned our passports & other documents, Took 1 slip each of the payment slips. He then looked at my Wife's passport and confirmed about the change of name after wedding (her passport is still in her earlier name).
He then took out finger prints (My wife & me) and asked us to goto counter for DD deposit.

VFS Associates helped us to reach the DD deposit counter which is just before the VO lobby in the other building.

We were again asked to immediately goto the Visa lobby as we were with a baby. Within 2 mins, they called us to the counter # 8. There was another family ahead of us while one was being interviewed. Once that got over, the VO closed the window for a break.
We were then shifted to counter # 2. After the on-going interview, that VO also went for a break asked us to be shifted elsewhere as he didn't want the baby to be waiting.

Finally we were shifted to Counter # 1 where the VO (female) looked very serious. Ours was 2nd in the line, people ahead of us also had kids.

Finally:

Vo saw the docs and asked my spouse to give index finger print again as it wasn't clear. She then asked me to do the same for my index finger.

Qns asked to Me:
1. How long have you been working with ZZZ?
2. How long have you been associates with this client (YYY?
3. Which client were your associates with earlier than this?
4. What would be your work there?
5. Why only you, why no-one else?

Qns asked to Spouse:
1. When did you guyz get married?
2. Wasit an arranged marriage?
3. how old is your baby?

She was continously looking at ther BEP letter and typing in her system.

Finally the golden words: "Your Visas are approved & you'd be getting them in a week's time". VO gave me the I129S forms (2 copies).

Finally wished the VO a wonderful day and marched out of the Lobby, not believing ourselves.

It was all over in 45mins flat.
Everyone going for a Visa Interview should go thru this site.
Keep yourself content, organized. Prepare well & pray for a positive results.
Do not be bothered about other's rejections or approval but keep your eyes/ears open to overhear the Qns being asked.

Experience:

Consulate: Mumbai
Type: L1B Blanket + L2 for my wife
Date: 12th Aug, 2010 @ 9.30am

Reached the consulate by 8.30am to check in-case if the queue is moving fast and squeeze ourselves in early. The Consulate officials would arrange the group according to the time-slot and gives preference to Elderly, Family with Children, Dependent Ladies , Husb.&Wift family and then the rest. As the previous slot gets inside we move forward and the officials check passport/interview letter/hdfc receipt, keep them handy. After the security check, around 10am, we were handed token number & green cover containing docs which we need to submit while taking finger prints. Once done, your token number would be called with the counter number for the Visa interview.

L1 B visa interview at Chennai on 12 Aug 2010
Thanks to this forum I was prepared for the interview, I had an idea of th eques they ask. My app was at 9.15. They let us in by 9. There is no use being more than 0.5hrs early, i.e. at 8.45, they were allowing only ppl of 9 and 9.15 to stand outside. They told all others to come later. Then they screen you and you need to go inside and sit in a passage, they will call to to join a queue for pre-screening your docs. They check your BEP folder and take fingerprints. Please take correct photos, I saw them asking a lot of ppl to go and get it clicked again. Please carry money for this, there is a facility for clicking inside only. But in my case, they never even looked at the photos. Then I went and deposited my DD and waited for my turn. Interview ques:
1)How much of exp do u have?
A = 4 yrs
2)Who is your client?
A = xxx
3) Oh internal then?
A = yes
4) What will u do there?
A = Blah Blah Blah
5) Explain your product in detail
A = Blah Blah Blah
6) Why have they chosen u for this proj
A = I have worked on similar proj for 2+ yrs and in the same domain for 4 yrs.
Then she said: your Visa is approved....
Be short and sweet in your ans. Be confident. A lot of ppl were talking a lottt, i dunno if they got the visa or no but they seemed nervous.
If more than 1 of u are goin, schedule the interviews apart. I had mine at 9.15 and 2 of my teammates had a little later. they both went to same counter, 1 got and the other did not.
Be ready to defend as to y only u can go there. If u can convince them of this, u will get it...

Hello,

I had my PA date scheduled for 9.A.M.
Waited in the BEP queue for 45 minutes and then the verification of the documents .
The person asked me to get another photograph as the ears were not clear in it. There will be the VFS office just nearby where we can get the new photograph. So please carry some amount with you for it.And then went there again with my new photo and then after the security checks and finger prints, they guide you to the counter.

My interview :

Me: Good morning Mam , How are you?
VO: Good morning i am fine..
VO: Since how long are you working with YYYY company?
Me: I am working since 3 years 6 months
VO: Who is your client?
Me: YYYY XX is my client.
VO: How much experience do you have with the client
Me: 3 years 4 months
VO: TO which place are you travelling
Me: Answered the place

The VO was filling the details on her computer and then said the great news that
" Your visa has been issued and you will get the passport within 1 week ".

Me: Thank You Mam, Have a good day..

Be very confident with your answers.
Never mind if you see rejections before you. Carry all the necessary documents and speak clearly with your smile...
According to me, The company which you works also matters a lot...

Good luck..

Cheers

L1 Blanket visa approved
Site has been very useful. The proceedings were exactly as stated by previous posters. The whole interview process was very simple - and was over in about 15 seconds - questions asked:

1. How long have you been working with the company?
2. What is your role in the US?
3. Have you been in the US earlier on L1?
4. What will you be paid when in the US?
5. Where will you be based? Company office?

My responses were cryptic, short, to the point and the whole interview lasted for just about 15 - 20 seconds. Did see quite a few rejections though - especially cases where I felt that the responses to the questions were too elaborate / descriptive, whereas the same was not warranted.

Thanks to immihelp. They really help.

Shiva.
