L1B/L2 visa updates
First of all, let me thank the GOD and this forum for our L1B/L2 approval. :)

Myself and my wife attended the L1/L2 visa interview today and the visa got approved !! :)

It was a busy day @ consulate. We kept our mind relaxed and the interview went very fine. (In fact, I believe, we will be relaxed in the interview hall irrespective of the things happening there)

After the pre-screening formalities, we were sent to the 2nd building and we were waiting for our turn. When the consular officer called us, we greeted her (a young lady with blonde hair) and asked for the passports and the documents. Then we did the finger scan.
She asked us a few questions and we responded to those confidently.

1. What will you do in US?
2. Can you explain in detail about the product?
3. Why do you think that this assignment cannot be done by anybody else?

I was maintaining eye-contact with her and she was looking also at me.

After these, she turned to my wife and asked:

1. What will you do in US?
2. May I see your marriage certificate?
3. How long are you married?
4. Do you have any kids?

Again, she turned to me and asked (after looking at the documents online):

1. When did you go to US last time & what did you do then?

2. Will you attend any training? (For this I answered “No", as I thought, logically/theoretically a Specialized Knowledge person need not/should not attend any training related to the work that he is going to do.)

And, finally she said “Your visa is approved and you will get your passport in a week’s time” :)

Overall, it was a nice experience and thank you very much for the tips and and hints we got from this forum, it helped us a lot!

Got my L1 Blaknet approved today @ Chennai.
Hello everyone, Thanks to one and all who posted their experiences and valuable suggestions.

My interview was today (9/30) at 10:45 in Chennai for L1 Blanket

After finishing all the formalities I was sent to wait in a queue for my turn. While in the queue, I have observed few L1's getting rejected and I was trying to concentrate on what every one was answering and preparing myself with the best possible answers.

The questions were nothing new than the one's posted in here.

I went to the counter where the infamous 'fat lady' was...and actually wanted to head to that counter as she was in a great spirit and paying attention to what you are saying…

My questions were as follows:

I greeted her with a smile and said "Good Morning" the clock just turned 12 and she said, well Its Good afternoon. I smiled and said, am sorry! She smiled back...(felt it was a good start)…

So, which company do you work for?
I said the name of my company...
Who is your Client??
Told the clients name…
How long have been with your company?
4.8 years...
How long did you work for your client?
1.8 years... (I preferred years to months)
So, why are you going to do in US?
I said, I am going to implement my company’s proprietary tool at client’s location which is “ABC…” (Name of the tool)
She asked if I implemented the same here while I was in India.
I said yes.
How many implementations have you done?
I did 2 implementations…
What’s your overall experience with this tool and what’s your skill set??
I said, 4.5 years and tool X is my primary skill.
For what type of clients have you used this tool before?? (This was unexpected)…
The tool was implemented for highly secured data driven companies like the client I am going to work for…

She started typing while I was answering and started signing my petition papers. She saw my Indian salary details and years of experience with in and client companies.

She then said, Sir, your Visa is through and you will get it in a weeks time.

The key thing is, be very confident and project yourself having very unique skills. I have seen rejections when ppl were telling I have experience on working on eg. Java for 4 yrs etc, they were asking what is it that makes you special...So, give a confident and best possible answer. Also, its common sense that we invite questions based on our answers so be prepared for the worst.

Practice well ahead and don’t slack on gathering information and getting opinions on your answers to all obvious questions in advance.

Good luck you all...

L1 B Approved on 27th Sept
Hi All,

Thanks a lot for the experiences shared in this great forum. It helped me a lot in preparing for the Visa interview. I was bit nervous as I was refused last time in July 2009. But gained confidence after reading this forum.

I had the interview scheduled at 8.15AM. Went thru the security checking’s and all other documents processing. I was called in for counter #5. Only very few questions were asked.

How Long have you being with YYYY ?

What are you doing with ZZZ?

Who is your Client?

Tell me the business about the client?

To Which School did you go to?

To Which university you went to?

Where are going in US? Address?

Are you working for the client?

That’s all!!!. And those great words came out from her mouth and asked me to collect my passport tomorrow and handed over the 2 copies of i129 and the petition. I think the luck matters a lot and also the company you are working for. But out of all you need to be confident during the interview. Just show them you are the man and visa is yours. All the best and thanks a lot for this site. Its rocking.

L1B Blanket Approved Chennai
Excellent forum this for all your Visa queries, and this helped me in getting my L1B approved today.

The questions I got where the ones oft repeated here -

1. Why are you going to the US?
2. What are you going to do there?
3. What is the project about?
4. What is your role?
5. What is that you do in that role?
6. What is your team size at onsite and offshore?
7. Can any of your team members not do what you can do?
8. Who will you report to there?
9. Will your manager be at the client office with you?

More than preparing the answers, I'd suggest understand what your Visa is for.

If it is a L1B understand that you have to project yourself as a specialized candidate. No Java/COBOL/.NET will do. Make sure you speak of the technologies in your JL, and make sure they are specialized/niche skills. "I've worked for 5 years on Java for this client" does not make you specialized.

Speak slowly, clearly and know what you are saying. Other than that, its a piece of cake. :)

All the best...
