NEW OCI APPLICANT
Hello Friends,
I am a new OCI card applicant. I had surrendered my Indian passport and received the renunciation certificate 2 weeks back (05/20/2020). Do I need to send my original surrendered passport or just the copy of the surrendered passport along with the copy of the renunciation certificate? I am confused after reading the documents checklist provided by these people. Here is what is written in the documents checklist - under PROOF OF RENUNCIATION - it says copy; however, also says "Surrendered Passport along with the copy of the Surrender/Renunciation Certificate must be submitted for Indian passports surrendered after May 2010." Then under PROOF OF INDIAN ORIGIN - it says Copy of first three and last two pages of the last-held Indian passport of the applicant. - DON’T SEND ORIGINAL INDIAN PASSPORTS.
If any of you have surrendered your passport after May 2010 and applied for a new OCI card and has successfully received your OCI card, could you please help me with this?

New OCI original passport requirement
Friends, I have a question about sending original passport for OCI application (new). Do you have to send original passport during the initial application (not match up)?. There are couple of checklist in VFS website which don't mention about sending the original passport hence the question. Is it the same for minor child too?. Do we have to resend during match up process also?. Thanks for your inputs.

Renunciation certification for US-born minor
My child is US citizen by birth. Everywhere I see on OCI instructions, it mentions renunciation certificate is required. But my child has never held an Indian passport, so do I really need this?

OCI Under Process since Feb. 2021
All, My OCI is under process since 20 FEB 2021. I have received my US passport back, but no updates on OCI. I belong to NY Embassy. Any help or anyone in the same boat, please let me know. Regards

OCI renewal for minor child
I want to share my experience with OCI renewal for my daughter submitted on the 25-05-2021
*The documents required what they have mentioned in the portal is different to the actual requirements*
My OCI renewal is to update the new passport no, change of address and change of personal particulars.
1)Please make sure you book the correct type of appointment, it has to be "OCI" and a NOT VISA
2) One passport size photo 2inch x 2inch, make sure you upload the scanned copy of the same photo in the online application form, otherwise they wont take the application. (I uploaded a different photo in the online form, they asked me to re-upload the scanned copy of the passport pic)
3) signature (5 yr or older can sign otherwise parent can sign) - signature upload option come after the photo upload bit, make sure you scan the signature properly and crop with spaces around it. the background has to be white with signature clearly visible otherwise they won't take it. (mine was bit grey in the background and they sent me back!)
4) original required for verification - current passport, old passport and OCI card of the applicant.
5) photocopies required for the below (all self attested):
i) Current passport
ii) Old passport (I did not know that i need to take the old passport as well, so had to go again! )
iii) OCI card - both first page and last page
iv) Full birth certificate
v) Parents passport copies
vi) Parents Marriage certificate
vii) Latest utility bill or bank statement (can be on the adult name whoever is applying on behalf of the child)
all of these copies needs to uploaded online, they wont take the application even if any of them are missing, you can only upload maximum of 8 documents, so pls make sure you merge the documents (like oci first page and last page to one doc and upload, same applicable to parents passports copies -can be merged based on the max allowable size ), it doesn't matter if the doc type doesn't match the actual doc you upload. all they want is the above mentioned docs to be uploaded.
They accept debit cards and cash. although it says only £21 for renewal , I paid £60 including the VAT, postage and administrative fees.
I went to London Goswell road and there is a shop near to costa coffee where they take print out and photo copies (in case anyone needs as they keep changing the rules every minute), this shop also re-upload doc for you and they charge 20 quid for that, in case of emergency we can use it as i don't want to wait for another one month to get a OCI slot i ended up like this.
I really don't want anyone to struggle like me (waste time ), hence sharing my experience, hope this helps!!!

Roughly 2 months end to end at SFO, this is without any further requests for information from VFS. Also done while Delhi was dealing with severe Covid related issues so I am actually surprised, this timeline seemed unaffected by that.
