All,
Many are experiences issues finding the available appointment date at Mumbai Consulate. I finally got a date for my family. As per my experience, if you are trying to find the date by your self (not an agent), then generally try during the morning time (India's morning time). So, if you live in East coast in USA, try to find during 8-11 PM night time which is morning in India. 80% of the time I see a single date open during that time.

Hope that helps.

Got visitor B2 visa at Chennai for sister PhD graduation
Interview date: 6 May, 2011 at Chennai consulate.

Thanks a lot for all of those who contributed to this website.

It wouldn't have been possible without the help of this site.

Me (a 22 years old final year medical MBBS student), my mom (runs a pharmacy) and dad (Doctor - Pediatrician) wanted to go to US to attend my sister's PhD Graduation ceremony and also for tourism for a month.

We went well prepared and with all possible documents.

We were interviewed by a guy who seemed very casual and jovial.

My dad: Good morning sir.
VO : Good morning. (Pointing to me) Is he your son?
My dad: Yes.
VO : What's the purpose of your trip?
My dad: We would like to attend my daughter's PhD Graduation ceremony, which is in the summer of 2011 (We weren't sure about the exact dates)
VO : What university is she studying?
My dad: University of xxxxxxxx. (Attempts to give invitation letter for graduation given by my sister's proffesors)
VO : No need of any documents. You can keep it inside. You're a pediatrician, right?
My dad: Yes.
VO : You own a clinic or a hospital?
My dad: I have my own hospital.
VO : (To my mom) Your'e too working, right?
My mom: Yes. I run a pharmacy.
VO : (To me) So, what do you do?
Me : I'm doing my final year of medical school.
VO : It's MBBS, right?
Me : Yes.
VO : Are you in 4th or 5th year of your course?
Me : I'm in 4th year of course. I still have 1 year of internship, only after which I'll be awarded a MBBS degree.
VO : (Smiling) All of your visa's are approved !

He didn't ask for any documents at all. He even avoided seeing the invitation letter for the graduation ceremony.

After lots of negative comments read on this site regarding visas for the young and unmarried, I was so sure that mine will get rejected. But, surprisingly, the VO guy seemed pleasant and approved it !

Haven't received our visas yet. Not sure whether they are Single Entry or Multiple Entry. Will post again once I receive it.

Luck played a major factor too. Cos, the VOs in the nearby counters were grilling the applicants. Not this guy ! :)

Anyways, thanks a lot for this website !

Visitor visa rejected
I have applied for US Visitor visa along with my friends and we were childhood friends and have planned to visit US for tourism purpuse and vo officer asked questions -
1) why are you going.
2) where are you going.
3) what you do here.
4) how you know each other.
5) why you want to that particular place.
After that vo officer said that we cant give visa and we have rejected. They gave us white paper indicating that we will settle there. I dont know that why they think that we will not come back as I and my friends doing good business and we have also made advance booking in hotel where we want to visit.
My question is can we appeal against their decision or can we reapply again please help us.
