Visitor visa B2 and Extension and exiting and re entering the USA
First of all, thanks to all who post their experiences. The information on this forum have been invaluable for me. Now I would like to post mine for others.

In preperation for my interview at the embassy in London I took with my a copy of my bank statement with my funds for my ^ month trip. a letter from my employer stating that i had been granted a career break for my trip, a copy of my flight stating my return date (the flight was intially set for a two week trip and I explain that if I was granted the visa then I would change the flight return date), copies of my salary slips since my start of employment with the company, Photocopies of my sister's passport and her LPR card, as she is now a resident in the USA, copies of bills an credit cards held in UK, recipt of trip to Nassau which was booked with friends and my copy of my travel insurance.

My interveiw was very brief. The woman who was leaving the booth as I was called had been rejected, so that did nothing for my very high nerves.

The officer asked me:
Q why I needed to 6 month visa instead of being able to travel for the 3 months under the visa waiver program.
A My sister was expecting a baby shortly, so I was going to support her and then wanted to travel the country after a few months there, specifically to experience the summer and fall times.

Q What were my plans for my 6 month trip.
A Again explained that I wanted to spend time with my sister and her family and then planned to visted down the east coast, and the landmarks there (I was more specific at the point), and I was also taking a trip to Nassau with friends.

Q What is my job and do I have re employement rights when I return to the UK.
A I work for my local authority and yes I have re employement rights when I return.

Q Who is funding your trip
A Me

Q How do you plan to fund your trip.
A I have $11,000 (approx 7,000 GBP) to fund trip which I have been saving

Again asked me do I have re employment rights.

Q Do I have family in the UK?
A Yes I have a father and mother, and grandparents. Father has serious liver problems and both grandparents have cancer, so I wanted to take trip now before I would be caring for them.

The only documents she wanted to see were my letter from my employer, proof of funds and flight info. I was then told that my visa was ranted and that i needed to go and pay for the postage of it, as it would be held to insert the visa. The postage was approx 13 GBP and was return to me in a week or so.

On reciept of my passport I had been issued with a B2 visitors visa, which was authorised for Multiple entry's to the USA and was valid for 10 years.

Before my date of travel I prepare a folder that holds all the documents I took to interveiw, plus a copy of my application, reciept and proof purchase of postage. This I keep and keep all important docs in whilst I am in USA and I will continue to carry it with me on any subsquent trips the USA.

At point of entry there was no issues, I went through immigration as normal.

I took a trip to Nassau, when I didnt take my folder of docs with me (and this is the reason I will take it with me when ever i travel either internally in the USA or visit the USA again). At the port of re entry I was goign through immgration as normal. The officer stamped my passport and I-94, and then asked me to follow him. I was then put into an interview room, and a senior member of immgration came to interveiw me.

The officer asked me:

Q What was the purpose of my trip t the USA?
A Visiting family and exploring the country?

Q What ties to I have to the UK?
A I have family and employment within my local government authority.

Q Why did I want to travel to the USA?
A Because I have friends a family here, and I wanted to see as much of this country as I could, as I enjoying travelling.

Q How was my trip funded?
A By myself, and with money I have saved during employment.

Q Do I have a copy of my return flight ticket?
A no, I wasnt aware I needed to bring it with me. Sorry.

Q What date am I returnig to the UK?
Sept 25th.

Q What are my plans when I return to the UK?
A To return to work and complete my current employment based qualifications.

Q Do you own a house in the UK?
A No, I am planning to purchase a home after my return.

Q How?
A With savings and a mortgage.

Q How will you buy a house if you use your savings to buy a house, if you used your savings to come to USA? (he smiled at this point!)
A I will have to go home, work and start saving again and stop spending my savings on frivilous trips to America, and actually behave like a grown up. (and i returned the smile)

At this point he returned my passport to me and allowed me to conintue intot he country. I had also been re issued a new I-94 at this time, which expired a new 6 months from the date I re entered.

At a later date into my 6 month trip i decided to take another trip out of the USA, leaving in th south of the country. On my re entry this time I ensured I have my magic document folder with me.
On re entry at this point the officer asked me:

Q Oh you're on 6 month visa, why?
A I have been visiting family and friends and visiting your country.

Q What is your job in the UK?
A I work for my local government authority.

Q And they let you take 6 months off?
A A year actually!!

Q Paid?!
A No sir!!

Q Ok well make sure you leave before your I-94 exspires or the trouble starts there.
A Of course

My passport was returned to me. My I-94 was not re stampted or re issued at this point and there was no adjustmnet made to my return date.

I then decided that I would like to apply for an extension for a further 6 months to this trip. I ompleted all the needed paper work online and sent it in. This was done at a very short time to the expiration date of my I-94 which I would not reccomend.

along side my online submission to my application to extend I sent a copy of proof of funds to fund my extended stay, another copy of my letter from my employer, departure flight information and a covering letter explaining why I wanted to stay a little longer, my intended departure date, and that have not voided any of the rules under the B2 visa.

My reciept was sent to me with in 2 weeks, and I recieved my athurisation to stay approx 9 weeks after the submission date.

When I returned to the UK, there was no isse at the departure port.

I antisipate that there will be some issued when I return to the country to vist family, but as i have kept every document, I will have to just travel with these and understand that I run the risk of being rejected at point of entry.

I hope this will be of use to someone. Remember, if your telling the truth you having nothing to hide, and nothing to 'trip up' on. In this case, their system really does work.

Parents got thier Visitor Visa
Thanks for all your help and would like to share the questions asked to my parents in Tamil.

To Father
Vo: Why do you want to go
Vo: Where are you going
Vo: Who is your sponser
Vo: Where are you working
Vo: What is your annual income?
Vo: Other properties & Savings?

To Mother:
Vo: What do you do
Vo: How many childrens you have
Vo: How many sons, and how many daughters
Vo: Are they married
Vo: Where are they living

Then Vo told your passport will reach you in a weeks time. Thank god, they got it for 10 years.

One thing is, Dress neatly, Be confident, no need to hide anything ( one of my sister is living in UK and my mom told the same ) and Vo didnt ask for any documents, but my father was having all the originals incase they ask.

Once again thanks for everyone posting their experience / questions and i collected all the questions and i was preparing my parents for a month on a daily basis which helped them to answer confidently. Also, if your parents are not aware of US, explain the cities, states, important areas, airports ext to have some idea about it.

So all the best !!!

Regards,
Ramesh

Hi All,
Thanks to immihelp for all the helpful information regarding B2 visa. It made the task of getting my Mom's visa so much easier. She had her interview on 10th Jan, 2011 at 10:45am in Chennai (Malayalam language). They asked the following questions:
1)Why are you going to US?
2)Do you have properties in India?
3)Are you working?
Answered "No, but husband is a govt employee)
4)What's your Husband's monthly income?
5)Who are the other members of the family?
Answered "I have a Son"
6)What's your Son doing?
Answered he's studying in such-and-such institution in so-and-so place.

Officer asked for her fingerprints again and said Visa is issued. He did not ask for any documents. Hope this helps other applicants and desperate children who want to get their parents to be with them :)
Cheers,
KR

B2
I was asked to deposit my passport alongwith pending status form (yellow), courier envelope and copy of the mail received from the Counsul at VFS Mumbai.

I did so. No document was asked nor taken.

I have received my passport back in the same courier envelope. There is no visa stamp, nor any letter of rejection nor any pending status form.

What does it mean. Is it accepted, denied or in pending status? I had applied for B2.

Has anybody gone through similar experience?

B2
I had attended interview on 24th November for B2. After the interview I was given yellow form, an envelope and my passport and was asked to wait till they contact me.

I received mail to submit my passport, yellow form and copy of that mail again which I did at VFS Mumbai on 16th December. No document was asked for nor taken.

I have now received my passport back in the courier envelope without visa stamp. No letter of rejection, no pending form.

What does it mean. Is it rejected or in pending status?
