A month ago, I invited my parents to come and visit me after my mother lost two of ther brothers in less than a year. Last Monday (April 19th), their visa was denied with no explanation whatsoever. They were dismissed in 30 seconds despite the fact that they had all the documentation showing their ties to Colombia. My parents are 60 and 63 year old. They had to travel for 8 hours to the embassy and paid $130 each, yet the embassy did not even look at their supporting documentation and denied the visa to them.
My parents have no intention whatsoever of immigrating to the US. That is why I have not petitioned them as residents. However, that is not our intention. They live very happily at home, and simply want to be able to visit me once in a while.
I am very saddened by this event. It breaks my heart that my parents cannot come to see this wonderful country. I could petition them, but I feel that it would be like accepting that they want to immigrate, which is not the case. I cannot believe that a US citizen can be deprived of enjoying the company of her family for no good reason.
I am planning to go personally to the US embassy in about two weeks because I consider this a very unfair treatment of me and my family.
I appreciate any advice,
thanks,
