My mother was interviewed at Bombay consulate today and was granted visitor visa. Following are the questions to which she gave appropriate answers.
1. Why you want to visit US
2. What does your son do
3. How long you plan to stay
4. Do you have any other children/are they married
5. Where do you stay in India?

That was it! Since this site has been helpful I will leave with few (oft-repeated) tips to other parents/sponsoring children who might read this post.
1. Be prepared, read this forum, know the questions. Know your application, even if someone else helped you prepare it.
2. on your application ask for language which you are comfortable in speaking. If for some reason the VO still starts off in English (or translator in hindi) interrupt and ask for your mother-tongue.
3. Be confident in your answers and be precise, they only need to know YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIES TO HOME COUNTRY AND YOU HAVE NO REASON TO RUN OFF TO US, if convinced your interview should be easy

Tourist Visa
My entire experience at the embassy took 10 minutes.
I am sponsored by my cousin and was quite aprehensive.

Questions asked:

1. Who are you going to visit and where.
2.What does he do.
3.Are you working and total work expeience.
4.What is your salary p/a.
5.Who do you work for and how many employees in your company.
4.Designation.
5.Do you own any property.
6. Do you have any children.

Please train youeself to answer to the point and do not give any extra information.
I said that i have a letter of leave sanction to which she said "I did not ask you for a letter".
Make sure you give the same information as given in the visa application.
If you do not understand the question which I did not twice say "Beg your pardon I did not understand that question"

There is no need to go to the embassy hours in advance.Go 15min before the appointment.
Pl ensure you have the appointment letter and the confirmation letter and bank challan.

US tourist visa for my parents who plan to visit thier cousin in US
my parents ( both retired) plan to apply for a tourist visa to US so they can visit their cousin in california when they visit us in canada from July - dec 10.
i understand they can apply for single entry visa - this will not be a problem for them to enter US from Canada and return - can some one confirm this please?
Also, since this is the first time that they are applying, it will be greatly appreciated if some guidelines can be shared so that they get their visa w.r.t documents to be submitted/ carried for the interview.
thanks

Got Visa for my mom on Mar 26th at Hyderabad
Hi,

My mother has got visa and will receive the passport. They didn't take any docs other than HDFC receipt, INterview Letter, Bar code page and they asked just 3 questions:
1. Where r u going?
2. Why r u going?
3. Your husband is not coming with you?

My husband did the sponsorship and we have taken appointment in Telugu.

Thanks

We reapplied for my mother in laws visa and it got approved. The first time we had not given much importance to questions relating to my wifes family and financial documents coz we were going to sponsor my mother in law. My advise is that go completely prepared with all the information and all the documents from both the side no matter who is sponsoring specially financial.

Refusal of visa
I had my visa interview today, with my family for the 2nd time , as i need to go to the US for my bro's wedding in may & i was hoping, this time we will be granted the visa. But this time they just asked some more questions than last time. We had all the documents needed to prove our purpose of visiting & who''s going to pay all our travel & other expenses & also had 1-34 from, but still they refused without giving any reason. We cant apply again before an year. Is there any help you can provide,as to y we were refused this time as well even though we had all the documents supporting & all reasons that we will return to India.
Quest asked were- y u going, for how long, what u do here. Even after answering these & some more quest, they dint grant. If u can, please guide us further on this, so whenever we apply again, we don't get another refusal.
