mom got B2 visa - 2nd interview - chennai
Thanks to immihelp and the patrons for providing info and sharing their experiences. It is of immense help.

Here is our exp.
Background:
Mom is widowed. Her sons - both me and by bro are here in US on H1. Grandmother stays with mom.

1st interview
Had lot of home work done. Had all the documents in place. My mom had interview in Tamil.

CO/Interpreter: Good morning
Mom: Good morning
CO/I: Application form please (DS-156)/Passport
CO/I: how man kids to you have
Mom: 2 sons
CO/I: For now - we cannot issue visa.
Rejected 214b.

We were very disappointed - as we had all our base covered/well prepared but were never given an opportunity to present the case and my mom for that matter will never immigrate to this place.

2nd Interview
This time again it was interview in Tamil - difference no interpreter - CO himself spoke in Tamil. This time had mom to high light all the positive points even if not asked for........

CO: Where is u'r other son. Is he here?
(Mom said the CO had the previous interview papers - justifies y he did not ask how many this time)

Mom: No, my other son is also in US. But my mother (ie., my granmother) stays with me and all our relatives live close by.

CO: How many relatives and what kind of relation?
Mom replied her bro/sister and all her il-laws are situated in the home town where she lives.

CO: when did u;r husband pass away
Mom replied back with the year.

CO: have u ever been abroad.
Mom: No.

CO: Ok, have a good trip.

Both the cases - none of her documents were asked for - only DS 156 and passport.

Wish u all good luck.

My parents had i/v on 25th. We requested for a Malayalam interpreter. The consular officer was knowing Malayalam. He said "namaskaram" and started talking in Malayalam. Dad then talked to him in English because that was easier and they continued in English.

Following questions were asked.

1) Why are you going to US?
-- Dad said to see America and the beautiful places there. Fot this the CO strated laughing hartily.
2) What Visa is your son having?
--H1 This time dad handed over all the sponsor docs.
3) What Visa is your daughter in Law having?
--H4
4) Have you been abroad?
--Yes
5) Have your wife been abroad?
--Yes
6) How many kids do you have
--Two. This time dad handed over the family photos.

That was it. He said "shubhayatra" and asked to pay the fees.
The interview was on 25th and we got the passports stamped on 29th.

My Parents got Visitors Visa!!!!!
Hi Friends,
I really need to thank this website....We have used this website for preparing the complete set of documents. Also we used the draft letters from this website and tuned it to suit our facts.

My dad was asked
Why he wants to go?
Where he wants to go?
What does your son-in-law do?
Which company he works for?
Also how we got married?
What does your daughter do?
And his annual income

They had a very simple interview and the officer was very very friendly.....
Organize the papers neatly that really helps

Thanks to ImmiHelp
Hi,

My parents had their visa interview in Chennai consulate on Aug. 23rd 2005 and they have got 10 yrs Mutiple entry :-))).

The interviewer was an American guy and to my parents' surprise, he spoke in Tamil. Eventhough, I had prepared all documents as per Immihelp and conducted a mock interview for my parents - No documents were seen except the Visa appln. form and No questions were asked except "is your daughter in California ?" for which my mother replied in English "one daughter is in California, one daughter is in Chennai". To this the consulate officer replied, "You can reply in Tamil, I can understand Tamil", for this my mother replied "very happy to hear that" in tamil. And then that's it. They were asked to pay the fees.

They key I guess is to do everything required, prepare your parents my making them familiar with all possible questions so that they can be confident & relaxed. And then on the D-day if they're lucky and it goes easy (like it did for my parents), else if it ends up being a tough one, atleast they will be prepared to handle it.

I really want to THANK Immihelp for it's service. Immihelp is GREAT.

Thanks,
One Happy Pregnant Daughter :-)))

B1 US visa denied
On 20th June,2005 I was denied B1 US Visa,I was intending to volunteer 1 year in a non-charitable organization. This was my first application to the US (but my passport has 2 visa refusal stamps from the UK embassy)...the consular asked me where I intended to travel, asked for the invitation letter after going through he said they didn't have a B1 visa for volunteers. He didn't even look at my other supporting documents. Should I have given the consular all my papers for him to read without asking them from me? Then he gave me a general letter showing that I did not have economics, family and social ties in my home country.

I intend to appeal on September, please advice should I give the reason for travel as visiting or where did I go wrong. Please advice me what I need to do
