Parents got visa for 10 yrs but, visa rejected for my handicapped brother
I have a handicapped brother who is around 36. He is actually a dependent.
He has got a good flat in India and a good bank balance.
We had applied for visitors visa for him as well as for my parents.
Without checking any of the documents they rejected his visa even though we told him he is a dependent. But, my parents were given multiple entry visa for 10 yrs.
Pls tell me what could we do to help him get the visa and moreover somebody should accompany him when he goes the next time for the visa. is this allowed? Pls send me a mail if you'll have any suggestions.

Parents got 10 years multiple Entry on their 2nd attempt
Hi all,
I am very much relieved. No more visa problems for another 10 years :). Thanks to this wonderful website and to all those who shared their experiences.

Back in May'05 my parent's visa got rejected. Reason stated was 214(b). Last time nothing went well for us, plus the CO was very rude.
1. I filled my parents application forms and made a mistake at column 37 ( which is the most important question in the application form).
2. My parents mis-understood a question and gave wrong answer. CO asked my parents if "they were visiting anybody in the US". Since I was sponsoring their visa, my father thot that the CO asked them, if they were visiting anybody else apart from me in the US. He said No twice.
3. CO to my parents - How many children do you have and where are they. My father said that I was in the US and for some reason said that both his daughters were in chennai. That was not the case, my eldest is in hyd. My mom corrected him.

All these were the major reasons I think y my parents visa was rejected last time. Last time CO didnt even check other documents.

This time, I was very cautious while filling the application form. Didnt make any mistakes. Made my parents cross verify the documents with a friend who works in a travel agency in chennai. Conducted mock interviews for my parents. Made them read the 'Read experiences' section in this website.

The following are the questions the CO asked my parents this time.
1. Why do you want to go to US ?
Ans. Visit son and tourism

2.Which are all the places you want to see ?
Ans. In and around california, if possible washington DC and New york.

3. for how long you want to stay there ?
Ans. 3 to 4 months

4. who is paying for your trip ?
Ans. My son is paying, but I am also having sufficient funds.

5. Where is your son ?
California state

6. where is he working ?

7. for how long he is staying in US ?

8. Can you show his passport ?
Please send all 36 pages in your passport including the empty pages. Looks like few CO are very picky about them.

9. Y did he go to croatia and singapore ?
I went to these countries thru my previous companies.

10. Show me the sponsor documents ?
This time all my documents were checked word by word.

11. Where were you(my father) working ?

12. As what ?

13. What is the nature of your work ?

14. What is your annual salary ?

15. How many children do you have ?
And. 1 son in US + 2 daughters and 2 grand daughters

16. 2 grand daughters ?

17. Being your only son, y do you wnat to come back ?
Ans. I am well settled here, I have 2 dauthers and grand daughters. All our relatives are here

18. How many brothers and sister do you have ?

19. Are all of them in chennai ?

20. Question to my MOM, How many brothers and sister do you have ?

Thats it, after all these questions, the CO said "ok your visa is granted, have a nice time in US".

These are the tips I gave my parents.
1. Answer all questions with Confidence.
2. Do not try to please the CO.
3. Give short and sweet answers
4. Be cordial with a smiling face.

Good luck,
Ram

forgot to add W2 and visa denied
My parents went for visa interview. They have been interviewed in English which was the major drawback , i made mistake in selecting the language accidentally chose english at the time of appointment date request.
Visa officer checked only my income and bankbalance and denied based on the insufficient funds. 15,000 in the bank is insufficient fund???/
Actually i forgot to send my W2 from the previous company and sent the W2 from the new company which shows the amount for 4 months only. may be that is the reason to say insufficient fund.

Can anyone suggest me ,how to attend the interview without an appointment because its denied based on the W2 which was not included.

do they allow tomorrow without an appointment?

Visa rejected... please respond with your advice.
My parents aged over 65, and my sister over 30, went for visitor visa interview at the Chennai consulate. When they were in the line, they were asked me to produce only form DS156 and passports to the white lady in the counter. They said that everyone had only them, and they kept the other documents in their hand. It seems like the verification of the documents is done in a different counter.

They were interviewed by this white lady. The said that the four applicants
before them in their line were rejected, and she seemed arrogant from the
beginning.

The white lady looked at their applications, and asked how long they're going to stay. They replied 3 months. Then she asked, "for...". My dad said, 'tourism
and visiting places like .. '. She asked, who's in US? My dad replied 'my son'. She was like, 'are you going to see your son or for tourism'. He replied that he's going for tourism purpose and to see places. She was like 'You drive??' showing a hand sign of holding a steering wheel. My dad said that My son will drive us around. she started writing down stuff as if she decided. Her questions were arrogant and sarcastic. My dad was afraid whether she had made any decisions and said that he had painfully prepared a lot of documents etc for the interview. She didn't ask for or see any other documents than their passports and DS156. Now, the white lady started screaming 'you're lying.. you're cheating'.etc. My dad tried to say something, and she just said 'get out'.

My parents are so frustrated about this. I've no clue why they rejected their
visa. The sample DS156 form from immihelp.com says that we can write the purpose as tourism and to visit son. So, why can't we have both as reason? My folks aren't very good in English either, but they had to go cuz they didn't get any tamil appointment dates to come here during summer.

I made all the documents precisely the way it was suggest in this website. I make more than 70K, and had good bank balance. I mean, everything was perfect. My dad has a house in India, and my sister had a place too to prove that they've property. But, their interview didn't come to this point at all. No one saw all these documents that we collected with great effort.

What can we do now? I had reserved their airticket to leave India in 2 weeks.
Can we try mumbai consulate now? Or, is it possible for them to get canadian visa, and then apply for Us visitor visa from canada?

Another weird thing is that the took all the Demand drafts (3 per applicant), and never returned anything. Will they send the Visa Issuance Fee drafts to our mailing address?

Please respond by email or any means.

Parents issued visa in second attempt -Chennai consulate
Hi all,
I would like to share my experience with you all. My parents were rejected visa in May 2005, the reason given was insufficient funds, inspite of mine and my husband's combined income. They had checked every sheet of the documents (Me and my husband co-sponsored my parents). Since my brother also lives in USA, the officer questioned why my brother didnt sponsor them and asked for his visa papers. My dad said that the consulate officer was inexperienced and was cross checking with other officers.

This morning they had their second attempt, I made them take the same set of papers but just added our investment and retirement funds and also my brother's documents because of the reason they gave in the first attempt. Again this time, my dad said they checked every single sheet and asked my mom quite a lot of questions and did'nt let my dad answer on her behalf. My mom answered confidently.

Another important aspect, if you have an old expired passport and a new one, please send copies of both because the officers may want to see all the visa stampings.

I just feel it is a random process, there is no set rules that will ensure the visitor visa issuance. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Mom's visa denied
My mother had visa interview at mumbai consulate on 08-Aug-05 and she was denied the visa. The reason they said was that her financial condition was not good. Its absolutely wrong because I am working for a Big 5,earning good here, nice bank balance and she too has a healthy bank balance with property.

She is a widow (my father expired 13 yrs ago)and I have an younger unmarried sister back in India. All the documents were proper, she also had an affidavit on stamp paper convincing her return to India.

They asked lot of questions about me,herself and she replied correctly.

Friends I read a lot to carry this and that document, but my query is do they take any documents while giving the interview appointment or along with DS156 form. If not then they ask all questions just based on one form...is it true?

Still I don't know on which clause her visa was rejected. But would like your help & advice as how to proceed with this and how do I make them look into the document file.

Thanks a lot

Jai

My Parents and In-laws got Visitors Visa
This site has been very useful for us. I and my husband were sponsoring our parents to visit us. We prepared all the documents as listed on this website. We also used the Sample Employment Letter/Invitation Letter posted on this website and modified the sample letters little bit.

We were little skeptical about my in-laws getting the visa as my husband is the only son and they have no kids back in India. But the visa officer asked my father-in-law
Q1)What is the reason he was going to USA?
A1) To meet my son and visit USA.

Q2) Tell me why will you come back your only son is in USA thus you will not come back.
A2) My father-in-law very confidently said I have my settled business back in India and I am well established here in India.

Q3) Will you accept immigration if offered?
A3) No, I am well settled in India.

Q4) They asked him yearly income
Q5)What does your son do?
Q6) Which compnay he works for?
Q7) How long do you want to go for?
A7) Just one month..........

And thus they were given 6 months visa........

My Parents went after 15 days for their interview and were asked almost similar questions............
Q1) Why you want to go to USA
Q2)What does your son-in-law do?
Q3)What is your profession (to my dad)?
Q4)Why do you only want to go for a month?
A4) We just want to visit our daughter and see USA as much as we can...
Q5)) How did you daughter got married?
A5) My dad explained the officer that it was arrange marriage....and the way we got married....(Visa officer started laughing)
Q6)What does your daughter do?
A6) My dad replied she is working and is currently on H1 visa...
On this the officer replied well she too is earning...Go enjoy yourself....Visa Granted!

Our Advice would be that the paperwork sent must be precise and neatly presented to the officer. Our parents had filed all the papers in transperant folders and put tabs on various sections Just that its easy for them and for the officer to review their papers.
Organize all the documents very wellthough the officer may hardly check any papers. Organized file gives them a good image and the officer is easily convinced that you have nothing fishy about the matter.
Also they had taken various family photographs in a small album.
