can i apply for SSN with only i-765
Does anybody knows if you could apply for a social security number with just the I-765 approval notice, not the actual EAD card. The reason is that I think my EAD might've got lost in the mail since it's almost a month since the sent it out, and I have not got it yet, the only paper that I have is the I765 approval notice which my lawyer received.

Need Help!! EAD lost in mail, have I797 approval
I am currently on F1 visa.
USPS and USCIS status says EAD card delivered but I did not receive it in my mailbox.(I have received my EAD approval I-797)
Here are my timelines:
15th May 2015 - Applied for EAD.
22th May 2015 - USCIS sent EAD application receipt.
7th July 2015 - USCIS sent EAD approval notice. I797
20th July 2015 - USCIS sent EAD card with start date 20th July 2015 (which USPS says was delivered but I did not receive)
USCIS case status says card has been delivered.
I have a job offer starting 17th August 2015.

I have the following Questions:

1.If I apply for a replacement EAD now,and since it might take upto 90 days for approval, will it count towards days of unemployment?
2.Can I expedite the replacement EAD card process, if yes how?
3.Can I start working once I receive the receipt for replacement EAD, since I have the approval I797 from the previous EAd application?
4.What is the best possible step forward, does anyone have any experience retriving the EAD card from USCIS or USPS?

Thank you for your help!!

Waiting for EAD change status - day 78
Hello all,

I've applied for my I-765 OPT based and got a receipt saying that case was received on May 18.

At the moment it has been 78 days and the status is still the same, case received.

I'm out of the US for vacation and supposed to go back next week on day 85. I know that in order to re enter the US before I was approved I can do it with the receipt b however after I'm approved and the mail the card, I must enter the US with it.

My fear is that my status will change during the flight, I know it sounds funny but its very close to the 90 days. What should I do? Should I wait until I get the card to enter with it or can I take the flight either way?

Thanks a lot

L2 EAD..wanted to share it with you ...
Folks...i have been wanting to share my experience and today i just received the notification that my card has been dispatched... First of all i need to say Thanks to USCIS...let me begin by saying am an L2 dependent and my wife is the primary visa holder...sounds different right...yeah...not many guys take the risk but i didnt want my wife to lose her opportunity and at the same time i didnt want to be separated...so took the risk and here I am...please follow below instructions and you will definitley not miss anything...

May 16th Reached US...

May 18th applied for my SSN ( got it by 22nd May) very quick though...

May 20th...Filled the online application form I765...many say that its better to send paper application blah blah...but it doesnt make any difference....there might be few ppl whose I765 might ave been delayed ...but it will not be for this reason....also please do not get demotivated to see others EAD coming early than yours....

May 21st: sent the supporting documents required for EAD...you need to be very careful when u send these documents...make sure u do not send the application again..you just need to attach the acknowledgement copy...along with it please send your passport copy ,I94, visa copy, marriage certificate..along with it please send your L1 visa /passport copy and I94.... if you forget to attach your I94 then u will be asked for RFE later on which might delay the proces.s..also attache your L1 offer letter, imigration forms like I797 ...please send your passport size photo (make sure you follow the background color etc..u photo might get rejected if over exposed)once these documents are sent... all done.... Relax...

May 30th : Received letter for BIometrics (dtd June 11th)..again people say that if u send paper application u will not have biometrics etc.... its all case to case basis... so worry not...

June 11th : BIo metrics completed... its not a big deal at all.. it takes 1 hr including the waiting time...

Now the wait begins... your application status will say "case received and we will come back to you if required"...

Dont get tensed...it takes minimum 40 days from your biometrics date to get the status changed...again case by case basis it get approved quicker.. so finish off other works like opening bank account, license etc... you can also have a look at the job portals and understand the market... Being a MEchanical Engineer it is even more difficult for me... create a LinkedIn profile if you dont have one and start getting connected....

June 22: My case status changed to "Case approved and notice sent".... it will again take 4 days to get you approval notice...if you have any interviews scheduled you can show them that your case is approved and just waiting for your card...but without ur case approval u cannot attend interviews... some people get "card under production" etc...i never got one though...

June 29th.: Card emailed to address..

SO friends...it took atleast 65 days to get the case approved and another 10 days to get the card physically...i have still not got the card though.... so worry not... if u follow these steps i dont see any reason why your card will be delayed...

Again am sorry for people who have followed similar procedure yet failed to get one...

Wishing you all good luck...hope i have made it clear..please reach out if you have any concerns...

EAD Experience - L2 Visa - June 2015
Hi All,

Just posting my positive experience with EAD and what I did so as to help others.

April 7 - Sent paper Application for EAD. Included a cover letter and applied post-it stickers to each page listing document category
April 8 - Case received by USCIS
April 11 - Got physical mail on receipt and Application Tracking numbers
June 18 - Case Approved (Status said , further info will be mailed)
June 26 - EAD card delivered into mailbox (Status said card delivered with Tracking number)

All in all it took 78 days from the time case was received by USCIS. Overall I feel paper application is better as it involves less communication back and forth (Bio-metrics etc. required only for online Application)

Thanks

Infopass experience and expedite
to who can advise :

Today I went to infopass Los Angeles ,and my experience was terrible. First when I was entering the black officer was like treating me and others as criminal and somehow I lost my I-797C and infopass schedule form at the gate. Then the lady was screaming for ID ,as I was trying to say I don have CA ,ID but I have passport so was not listening and was saying ,"No ID,no interview"...then I give her passport then she understand that ,I don have CA ID !!! ,after all these mouth breathing Idiot I waited almost 1.5 hour and when I met the so called officer all she said on first ,that why I was there I can expedite my request online and its same and another thing that they can only expedite case locally which process in their office not in CSC ,I don understand that and came out with lots of disappointment and finally called the USCIS and placed another expedite request. I wonder can anyone tell me, as I lost I-797C receipt will that be any issue at any stage ? Please share your concern.

Thanks,
Faiek

L2 EAD still not approved
Hi All,
Requesting for any suggestions/advise

I have filed for change of status from H1 to L2 and also applied EAD along with it.
Filed on May 22nd and got the receipt May 29th stating that USCIS has received my case on May 27th.
From then, the status is not getting changed. It still shows that my case has been received.
I was on L2 EAD before and i have got the approval within 4-5 weeks of time during 2010 and 2011.
This time it is been around 8 weeks but still no update.

After reading few experiences, I felt that i may be known with the decision within 75 days.

But without this known before, I have started my job search after 40 days of my EAD filing and till now I have got few offers too. As I did not get the approval yet, am not able to proceed further with them and requested them to wait for couple of weeks.
Few waited for 2 weeks and they said they cannot wait for more.

Am getting frustrated with this now. Please provide any suggestions for me which makes me start working as early as possible.

EAD with marriage based AOS
I had an approved I-130 and submitted for an EAD along with I-485 for adjustment of status. I'm a Canadian citizen currently holding a H1B visa and did not have to rush the approval process.

Timeline:
May 8, 2015 USCIS received documents, case transferred to NBC
June 3, 2015 Biometrics done
July 21, 2015 EAD/AP approved

Total time for EAD approval 75 days.

Still waiting on notice for I-485 interview, but at lease I won't have to worry about my employment through the adjustment of status process. Best of luck to all, I found these experiences helpful to read during my process.
