Finally!
My green card was mailed to me today. I have waited for this so long - like everybody does.
But what a humbling journey it was! I didn't go back home for 9 years and waited months at each stage. We all have either gone through or are still going through the long waiting periods.

I remember the time when I would dream of having a SSN when I was on F-1 visa - and here I am: a permanent resident!

I wish everyone a great journey in life. I wish all of you a quick, hassle free achievement of your immigration goals.

And a huge thank you to the developers of this website as these posts give a lot of encouragement and emotional support to the ones stuck at various stages of immigration.

Limited Driver License and SSN
Hi Everyone! I am so excited to get my green card next week!
It was on h4 and H1b (Pakistan) and work based i485 from my husband. Thank God for everything!

Questions:
Should i go to the DMV to get my license updated, as i have a limited term DL. will they change it to a non limited one?
I got my SSN after i received my EAD, do i need to do anything about that? Does that need any updating after the GC?

Thank you everyone for sharing their experiences, My advice - Be PATIENT. It is going to work out in the end and you will get it.

Los Angles EB2 ROW
My journey is over as I just received my green card! Thank you to this forum for providing a lot of guidance and help...I'm hoping I can pay it forward by sharing my experience below:

EB2 ROW filer on H1-B visa living in Los Angeles

6/14/18: PERM filed
8/29/18: PERM approved
10/18/18: I-140/I-485/I-131/I-765 concurrently filed (premium processing)
10/24/18: I-140 approved
11/15/18: Biometrics
12/28/18: I-131 denied (I left the country during processing)
12/28/18: I-765 (EAD) approved
1/7/19: EAD card received in mail
5/23/19: Interview ready to be scheduled
7/2/19: Interview at Los Angeles USCIS Field Office (approved on the spot)
7/2/19: Card in production
7/8/19: Card in the mail
7/9/19: Card picked up by USPS and tracking number provided
7/10/19: Green Card received at home

In terms of the interview, I was over-prepared and printed up every document + copy I could think of. However I was only asked for some recent pay stubs. The IO was very kind and professional and went through the application with me...mainly checking to see if anything had changed plus asked a selection of the yes/no questions from the form. He also went over my job briefly, as well as my last I94. At the end of the interview he handed me a piece of paper stating that I had been approved. Very impressed with the whole experience...was in and out within 2 hours:

My interview was scheduled for 9.30am; I arrived at 8.15am & waited in line outside for 30 mins; was in waiting area at 8.50am and was seen by 9.45am. I left around 10.20am - 30 mins after this, my case tracker app changed to Card In Production.

Happy to answer any questions on here.

Best of luck to everyone!

EB1 QUESTION
I have a question about EAD/AP.

I applied (with my wife) for an EB1-A and the I-140 was approved with a priority date of Sep 2018.

We’re both on O1s, so have been waiting for our priority date to become current before applying for the I-485. But it’s been backlogged since we were approved. The issue is that both our O1s expire in June/July 2020, and we’d prefer not to apply for new visas, so are thinking of sending in our I-485s to get our EAD/AP.

The question is: Can we send in our I-485 before our date becomes current? Will they issue the EAD/AP in good time, or will they hold off until the dates becomes current? What’s the wait time on the EAD/AP right now - curious how long we won’t be able to leave the country?

My understanding is that it’s slower to cross the border on an EAD/AP card and that you need to go into secondary, or at least can’t use Global Entry. Is that right? We travel back and forth to Canada for work a lot, so want to avoid being on the EAD/AP for a prolonged period of time if it slows us at the border.

Also, is there a benefit to sending in the I-485 now? So that we could get in line do our interview earlier, and then be ready to receive the GC when our dates finally become current?

Also, I’m wondering about our medicals in case the dates remain backlogged. I know they’re only current for a year. So my question is, when do they need to be current for - when they’re doing the biometrics, interviewing, or issuing the GC?

Thank you!

Final action date
The priority date for my EB1 case is around mid June 2018 and I did my interview in Feb and I am waiting for my GC. The final action date in July for EB1 was April 22 2018 but now for August 2019 it says 1 July 2016!!! is this correct? why should it go back 2 years all of a sudden? when do you think it is reasonable to expect my GC?
