1.
Get all education & experience documents

  2. Have your Petition details ready (I797)
  3.
    1. For blanket L1, if the expiry is indefinite fill start date as close to your Visa date and Expiry date as after 3 years from start date.
    2. For Individual, I believe there is a well stated start and end dates.
  4. Create and submit your DS160 form.
  5.
    1. The moment you start your new DS160 form, an Alpha Numeric number would be generated. Keep a note of this number.
    2. You would be asked to upload a digital Photo with 2X2 size. For more details check their site.
  6. Register your self with http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/
  7.
    1. Make sure you provide correct First name, Last name and passport details. As most of the details are not editable once saved.
    2. Treat First name as your given name in your Passport.
    3. If a change is required send an email to [email protected] with evidence.
    4. Add DS160 & I797 details in there.
    5. Add family member details who are going to accompany you.
    6. Choose a payment option.
    7. If NEFT, make sure you take a copy/printout of the unique Account Number screen.
    8. For other options I believe you get the receipt at the bank.
    9. The payment receipt will get updated automatically in your profile after 1-3 hours.
    10. Go to appointment schedule screen.
    11.
      1. First system ask for your Consulate interview date/time
      2. Second it asks for OFC details.
    12. Fill your Passport Collection details (Drop only & not courier)
  8. Take 500$ DD for Blanket L category
  9.
    1. You can take this DD from any nationalised bank for 29000 RS [Check the site for latest rates]
    2. I have taken this with payee as "US Consulate General, Chennai" payable at Chennai - they accepted it
    3. I saw people taking DD with "American Consulate General, Chennai" So please check with US Travel Docs once.
  10. OFC Biometrics/Digital Photo
  11.
    1. You need 3 documents for this
    2.
      1. Appointment Letter
      2. DS160 Confirmation Page Printout
      3. Passports in Original
    3. You can reach to the OFC before 15 mins of your schedule time. Relax you don't have to give any interview here.
    4. in OFC centre they take your Biometrics [10 pin] & a digital Photo
    5. They stick a barcode same as your DS160 and mark your DS160 & Appointment letters with OFC stamp
    6.
      1. You need to carry these with you to Consulate.
  12. Reach no more than 45 mins to the consulate. [You don't want to get dirt from road and the hot sun making you feel weak]
  13. You need to stand in a queue per Security direction based on the appointment time.
  14. At Consulate
  15.
    1. VFS Personal checks your Appointment Letter/DS-160/Passport - Stamp on Appointment letter
    2. Another VFS person, would provide a counter number [e.g., 7 in my case]
    3. Frisking at security
    4. Then you will be allowed inside
    5.
      1. You can not carry any digital content/CD/USB/Phones/Cameras
      2. No sealed covers
    6. Go to the counter, the indian officer would check your details and provide you a token
    7. Wait at the adjacent area for your token to be allocated to a counter
    8. Go to the counter and the officer would collect below details.
    9.
      1. 3 Sets of i129S [1 Original + 2 Duplicate]
      2. 3 Sets of i797 [Only 1st page]
      3. DS160 Form
      4. Your passport + Spouse passport
    10. Goto first counter where a US Officer would verify your finger prints and match them with biometrics
    11. You can move to next building for the VO Interview
    12.
      1. Once entered wait silently in a chair for your turn.
      2. The numbers generated are bit random, because of the priority tokens for candidates with children
      3. Once you have your number displayed, move to the counter and wait for your turn.
      4. Don't give much importance to the conversations/rejections happening around you.
      5. VOs are cool, and I am sure they already have some background work done on your case.
      6. If your case is well petitioned, there are very good chances of you clearing the interview.
      7. If approved
      8.
        1. VO returns two I129S forms, one for HR and another for POE
        2. If you want to have the passport delivered, pay 300 per passport at the premium delivery counter (this is at the VO Interview hall entrance)
      9. If Rejected
      10.
        1. If Blanket, go for individual (You can apply next day of your Blanket rejection)
        2. If Individual - Don't know sorry. May be H1

And below is the Interview:

Mantra: Be confident, make your self convinced that you get the Visa.

L1B approval in Chennai
Hi All,
Just wanted to share my recent and 1st experience for L1B Visa in chennai. I felt it was a cake walk for me. My interview was done in just 30-40 secs.

This interview was for latest Visa Processing procedures...

OFC:
Though the process was not well laid out at this point... hope this would be soon well streamlined. All we need to carry to this OFC appointment (Biometrics) is
1. Visa Appointment Letter
2. DS 160 form confirmation
3. Passport

Though you can carry any other documents to avoid surprises.

OFC appointment once takes care of Biometrics.... and nothing else. So need not be soo tensed for this process. Its all simple and usual process. We were even allowed to take Mobiles to this OFC center in chennai. But soon they may restrict that [just a guess].

Main Visa Interview:

So organized and neat process. Just stay calm, cool and confident. Thats the mantra...
Try to reach the visa consulate may be 45 mins early as they can allow you if there seem to be not much rush. Take all your supporting docs as suggested by your company. My interview was scheduled at 12 Noon and surprisingly i was out of consulate by 12 Noon with visa approved ;)

Interview question i have faced

Me: GM Mam, How are you doing?
VO: Gud Morning. Im doing great and how abt you?
Me: Yeah doing fine
VO: Why are you traveling and kind of work are you going to handle in US?
Me: Going to handle Design and Development of Blah blah blah... project and i will be responsible to integration activities as well..
VO: What kind of development?
Me: Develop some algorithms
VO: Algorithms for what?
Me: For so and so....
VO: How much is your exp in this development?
Me: 3.5 yrs
VO: YOUR VISA IS APPROVED... and ill give you two i129s forms. Hand over one to your HR and carry one with you when you travel to US
Me: Thanks mam.

Hurrayyyy.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and thats the moment i realized that i have really cleared my VISA interview...

Just Stay calm and confident Guys... thats it...

Gud luk for all of you.
Thank for this Forum which helped me to be prepared for multiple questions :)

Clearly Not Approvable
Hi, I had my L1-B interview last year and it was not approved and got a white slip saying "Clearly Not Approvable". Can some one tell me is it equivalent to rejection? Its been one year now again my company is asking me to apply for L1-B. Am i allowed to apply for L1-B again? Your inputs are highly appreciatable.

Thanks
Sri

L1 B Blanket Approved
My L1 B Blanket Visa was approved today 28th September.

My initial appointment was on 18th September and since the consulate was closed last week, my appointment was re-scheduled. I had to book the appointment with the new process and through a new site http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/. With this new visa processing I had to take two appointments 1 for biometrics finger print collection and other for the consular interview.

Bio-metrics:
This was scheduled on 27th September around 2.30 PM and I reached there by 1: 20 PM. I had a great difficulty finding this place since no one knew about US Consulate OFC as it is a new location. Even my cab driver had difficulties find this place even though he was a localite. Finally after a lot searching we ended up at the OFC. My suggestion is just follow the address and do not ask the local people about the US Consulate OFC as they will think it is the Main US Consulate (consular interview place) at Anna Salai and will direct you guys to go there. The OFC is in the same building as of TPL House (you can use this as the landmark).

Now coming to the bio metrics collection, it was very easy and simple procedure. Once you are in they will verify your passport, DS 160 and appointment copy and will issue a yellow card and will direct to go inside. Once inside there are so many counters and they will call the token number. There they will take your passport and appointment copy and will start taking the finger prints, once done they will return the passport and appointment copy. This completes the finger print collection.

Consular interview:

My interview was at 10 AM but I reached the consulate by 8:40 AM and they did let me in.

Note: Keep your passport, appointment copy and DS-160 handy as it is verified at each and every stage.

- Once you get inside the building the first step is the security verification where all your folders, wallets are checked and you will be frisked.

- After that you will be asked to get inside and a token will be issued in the counter opposite to the door you enter.

- Once you receive the token you will have to take a seat and lookout for your token number in the screen near you. They will call the token number and will assign a counter. Once there, they will verify the documents and they only need 3 sets of Form I-129S, Passport, DS 160 and MRV receipts (I had huge set of documents as the petition was prepared by attorneys in the US).

- Next step is verification of the finger prints in the last counter. They will only take left hand 4 fingers.

- After this you will be guided to the next building, the place where the consular interview will happen.

- Once there, you will be asked to deposit the $500 DD (29,000 INR, fraud prevention fee) for L1 Blanket Visa only.

- After that you will have to take a seat and look up for your token number to be assigned to a counter to have the interview with the consular.

- Visa Interview
(Started with a smile and kept it throughout and also maintaining the eye contact)
Me: Good Morning
VO: Good Morning

Me: How are you?
VO: How are you doing?
Me: Doing well.

VO: How long you have been working with the current company?
Me: 2 years 6 months

VO: What is your specialized knowledge?
Me: Explained (Patiently VO listened to everything I said)

VO: What is your salary in India?
Me: INR -----------

VO: Where will you work in US?
Me: Place name

VO: How long you have been working with the current company? (Asked the same question again)
Me: 2 years 6 months

VO: How long you will stay in US?
Me: Told as per the petition

She kept on typing something in the computer and finally, "I'm approving your Visa and you will need to carry 2 sets of Form I-129S when you travel to US" by saying that she stamped “Approved” on the forms and handed back to me. She said passport will be sent to the pickup location you have specified and you will get the SMS and an email regarding this.

Me: Thank you.

Me: Have a great day.
VO: You too.

Then I headed to premium delivery service of passport counter with the form filled and paid Rs. 300 to get the passport at the home address.

Entire process was very smooth and all the staff members were very helpful.

Piece of advice: Greet everyone with the smile and acknowledge their help with a "Thank You", have a right attitude, dress in a presentable manner and look professional and keep smiling :)

Good luck guys!!!

Cheers!!

Whoever said that one should go 2 hours before just does not know what they are saying. I went at 9:15 and my appointment ws at 9:45. After just 5 mins outside i was called in and after that it was all a breeze. I came back to my hotel at 10:10 am. At the consulate, the Visa Officer was really easy going and asked me and my wife only three questions.

Why are you going to the US?
Told her about my functional manager job in the US as a intra company transfer

How long have you been with your company?
7 years

To my wife - what is your qualification...

and thats all.. she said "i am approving your visa.. have a good day

BTW, this is my fourth US visa - i had an F1, a H1-B, B1/B2 and now L1-A.
