L1B and salary relation
Though there is no direct relationship between one's salary and L1B, this is one way for Visa Officer to gauge your skill sets authenticity. One has to understand that L1B are for specialized skill sets, and if ones skill set is very specialized that it is not locally available in US thats why the person needs to be sent from another country to US on L1 (as would have mentioned in the petition filing document) then logically, the person should already be getting paid well and decently. Visa officers meet many applicants daily and they have strong data available with them as to what a particular technology and skill set is worth to be paid for .If the technology or skill sets you are going to work on as part of you L1B are rare you would be getting paid better than other commonplace skillsets. In my opinion this is part of the excercise to scrutinize L1s more deeply then usual so companies are encouraged to file H1 instead of L1s especially where L1 is not justifiable.

First of all let me thank to all who had posted their experience in immihelp.
Ours was more or less same as most post on this forum.
Our discussion went as below :
VO: Good Morning,Sir
ME: Good Morning
VO: Good Morning, Madam (To my wife, she wasn't hearing him as my daughter was restless but somehow she managed to reply back to him)
WIFE: Good Morning
He asked me for the documents, I passed it to him.
VO: So you work for YYYY ?
ME: Yes, Sir
VO: Who is your client?
ME: We don't have a client, we are product based company
VO: Where do CCCC (Company name) do?
ME: Explained in 2-3 sentences
VO: What will you do?
ME: Develop software on embedded platforms using propreitory IDEs
VO: Questioned on IDEs
ME: Explained in indetail
VO: What is you indian salary?
ME: YYYY XX in lakhs
Had a B1 visa and traveled twice
VO: When did you travel last time and how long?
ME: YYYY and B weeks
VO: Purpose?
ME: Training on new platforms and tools.
VO: Ok, everything looks good to me.
No questions to my wife. He gave me two I-129 forms and told me our Visa is approved. I think as mentioned by many in this forum a decent salary (both indian and US) and working in product based company is plus.

All the best guys!!

L1-B rejected
Hi All
Just i want to share my experience with the site followers.

Questions are
1)Which company working for
2)How long you are in this organization
3) what is yor total experince
4)who is your client.
5)what is your indian salary
6)what is specialization

So prepare the answers

don`t fell that you went for visa interview .

some observations from my end .

Communication playes major role for your visa interview .

Talk slowly in my case he ask me talk slowly because when i am answering for my specialization he ask me to talk slowly .

so don`t rush the answer listen carefully

because we can`t make out what they are asking i asked twice could you please repeat
so he might feel that i am not able to grap the slang .

so don`t give a chance to then asking the i don`t get you please repeat again.

so listen carfully what they are asking ..

Godd luck.

Murali.

Many thanks to people who have posted their expereince. The interview questions were exactly from what has been discussed here.

My 2 cents

Following were the questions that were asked

1) VO - Which place you are going to in US?
2) VO - What will you do as Manager in US? - THE Most Important question. The VO was directly looking at my eyes very carefully without even blinking. I feel if we get thorough this confidently, we are 50% on our way to getting the Visa
3) What is the team size?
4) Does all of them working for the same company?
5) Have you been to US before? How long and on which type of Visa?
At this moment she marked "A" in the petition and it proved as a big relief for us

Then to my wife
1) Date of marriage?
2) Only one children?

Then she typed for few minutes and out came the golden words!!!

Many thanks for all the people who have posted here before and best wishes for all of you. Just be Confident while answering and maintain a positive body language would be my advise....

Hello All,

First of all many thaks to all who have given their experiences in this forum.Really really helpful!

My L1B got approved today without any hassle.

There are some key points for L1 approval now a days which I noticed:

1.Your Indian salary (take home)
2,Your total years of experience
3.Your immediate client in the US

4.The way you explain your specialisation.
(should be short and simple).
5.Your attire at the time of interview.

Ofcourse, confidence, smile on your face are must :)

Please do not forget to share your experience in this forum once your visa is approved. This will help others to prepare well for the interview.

Thanks,

L1B approved on 2nd Feb - Chennai
Hi All,

My L1B got approved today morning. My interview lasted for precisely not more than 30-40 seconds and was asked only one question : "What are you going to do in US". Clubbed my project details and specialization in the response.

Positives:
1) Top Products company
2) Good salary in India

There were many many rejections around me and people who on this forum say that "it is very negative there and they don't even listen to you, don't apply for this visa" are the people who don't even know what is L1B.

2 people were rejected in front of me in my line:
1) First one said : I am from company X, going to company Y in the US for explaining the tool that has been developed by company Z and this tool is widely available in the market.
What would you expect the Visa officer to do??

2) Seond person said: My job responsibility is to ensure that everything is working smooth and ensure that people are holding meetings everyday. My speciality is Microsoft Excel and I know how to create tables and pivots in it.
What would you expect the Visa officer to do?

L1B is super easy to get, if you know what it means : it means your OWN company's PROPRIETARY tools/technology/processes. That's it. Otherwise please don't discourage others on this forum by saying "There are more than 80% rejections and VO doesn't listen to you".

Best of Luck to all the SERIOUS applicants !!

L1B Blanked Approved on 1st Feb
Thanks to all the people on immihelp for helping me prepare for the process.

The questions I was asked were similar to those mentioned in this forum.

My 2 cents:
1. Be confident about your specialized knowledge. In my case, the VO didn't even read my petition.
2. To me it appeared that a good salary is the key along with years of experience on the specialized knowledge.

The rest of the things will fall into place automatically.

Regards,
Sujal

L1B Approved
My L1B application (along with wife's L2) got approved today in Chennai without much hassles. I work for a product-based American company (no clients) and I have a total experience of 3 years 7 months. Both I and my wife already possess valid B1/B2 visas and we have been to the US for a month last year. With this background, let me share my experience:

We arrived at the embassy at 09.15 for a 1000 interview and we were immediately allowed inside. By 09.45 we were ten-printed and we were waiting for the interview with the consul. At around 11, our slot came up and we went to the window. The questions asked by the Consul (C) and our responses (R) were,

C: How are you doing?
R: Good, thanks. And you?
C: Good

C: So where do you work?
R: *Company name*
C: Oh there? ok.

C: Have you used your B1 visa before?
R: Yes
C: How many times?
R: Once
C: How long did you stay for?
R: 26 days
C: Was that a business trip?
R: Yes

(To wife) C: Did you accompany him on this trip?
R: Yes

C: Where in the US will you be going?
R: *Place name*

C: How long do you intend to stay for?
R: 3 years, if you give the visa (wry smile)

C: How long have you been with the company?
R: 3 year, 7 months (I was a little worried that this was insufficient experience)

C: So what do you do?
R: I work on *so and so* with *so and so* protocol being my specialization

C: What is *so and so* protocol based on?
R: Not based on any industry-standard, it is all home-grown *blah-blah* (At this point, the consul does not any technical stuff, he's prodding you to see if you know your work and how confident you are in your responses)

C: What is your salary in Lakhs?
R: *00000

(To wife) C: When did you get married?
R: *date*
C: Can I see some wedding photos?
R: No wedding photos but we have marriage certificate
C: Let me see it
(Shown to him)
C: Ok

At this point he starts typing frenetically into the computer for a couple of minutes. He then starts signing the forms and puts a seal on them.

C: Ok, so I have approved your visas today. You will get them by courier in a week. Have a good trip guys.
R: Thanks

Observations:

1. Like someone said earlier, working for a product-based American company (especially a well-known one) is a definite plus.
2. Good communication skills (and decent grammar) definitely help convey every little detail better. BUT this is not an absolute necessity so dont worry if you tend to fumble with words sometimes (We all do it).
3. Being direct and concise is of utmost importance. DO NOT speak more than what is necessary, DO NOT narrate stories and DO NOT beat around the bush. ONLY provide specific answers to the question asked.
4. Your attire, standing posture and whatever else to do with physical appearance do not matter, from my experience. That does not mean one goes for the interview in a haphazard manner, but if you're dressed professionally, that is sufficient.
5. Confidence is vital in your responses and do not try to bluff your way through if you are not sure what he's asking for. If need be, ask him to rephrase his question and if you feel the interview is not going the way it should be, start from the beginning explaining the salient points of your case. All they need to see if that you are a genuine person who knows his work very well.

Hope this helps you like a lot of posts from others helped me. All the best!

Does an experience of 2 years works for L1-B?
Hi All,

I work for a service based company and my Visa got approved internally but I wonder whether the VO gets convinced if he hears that my experience is just 2 years?

Are there any tips to crack the interview in such cases? Your answers will be really helpful and valuable.

Thanks,
Venkat
