L1B rejection with 221g
I attended L1 B interview at Chennai on 7th July. The visa office told me that he is not convinced about my specialized skills; he handed over 221g blue form, along with the passport. He marked "Your blanket L1 application is not clearly approvable under section 8 CFR 214.2(I)(ii)(D) and INA 101(a)(15)(L).

L1-A, Blanket Petition approved @ Delhi
Hi All...

Just wanted to share my experience. First of all there is no doubt that this is a fantastic forum and one should read ALL experiences (irrespective of your VISA type.) This will help you build your confidence..will clarify a lot of doubts and kill a lot of butterflies in your stomach when you stand for the actual interview.

My VISA interview was for L1A (Intra company transfer)...This is what I was asked:

VO: Good Morning
ME: Good Morning

I handed over my documents and my passport to him.

VO: What is your designation in <my company>?
ME: I work as an IT manager.

VO: How many people report into you?
ME: I handle a business of more than 500 users and 35-40 people from IT report into me.

<The below mentioned question is the most important question... where I got him>

VO: Who is your client?
ME: I will NOT be working for the client, I work for my company and I handle different accounts. I would be the interface between my company and our clients..

VO: <Smiling handsomely as if he is very very happy with my answer> ... Good !! It's an intra company transfer. smiling

VO: Where is your company's HQ in US?
ME: Danbury, CT

VO: <Again smiling> I know that... where would You work from?
ME: Danville, IL

VO: For how long has your Danville office been setup?
ME: About 6 months now..

VO: <Again smiling and in a very enthusiastic voice> Perfect !!..... Danville isn't that bad a place.. have a nice day.

Observations:

1. No matter how the VO looks at you.. You should always be Confident ... Smiling.. Walk Smartly...when you approach the counter. If your token number has been called and the last person is still on the counter desk... ensure that you only approach the counter once the person b4 you has left... This gives a very good example of good manners to the VO.

2. You should have through knowledge of the type of VISA you have applied for. (That's the reason I gave importance to this question during my interview)If you have specialized skills.. then you have to prove your skills ....may not be in technical terms but by being smart < try not to use jargons and try and explain in layman terms>.. more importantly be very precise and confident... the moment you stammer.. VO would think that you are not with your words.

Hope this would help .....Wish you guys All the best !!

L1 Individual
First of all, I'd like to recommend immihelp.com for being such a candid discussion board to share visa interview experiences. Understanding others' experiences and arming yourself for your own interview is something that I found very useful and effective.

Now, let me share my interview experience which happened today (23 July). My appointment was scheduled for 10.45 and I reached the consulate just before 10 AM. Being an L1 petition holder, I had to carry my office employment material, including my badge. And I discovered to my horror that I'd left it behind at the hotel. I rushed back, recovered it and was back at the consulate, all in the small matter of 20 minutes. Then, I had my preliminary screening, during which snafu #2 occurred: my photo, which I had obtained 2 years ago for my B1 visa, was deemed too old for current application and I was told to get another one for a cost of Rs.100. So, I got a new set of photos done and was back at the counter to complete the preliminary screening, which now passed by in a flash. I now knew the moment of reckoning was close at hand: the final stamping interview.

I eventually handed my petition and other documents to the stamping officer, greeting him (cheerfully, I hope) as I did so. Heart thundering like a bongo, I was asked to place my right thumb on the finger-print scanning device. Then, he asked me a question: "What will you be doing there onsite?". I started with a stammer, but finished off strongly, mentioning the key skills that distinguished me and the project on which I will be working there. He then asked me couple of minor questions and then said the magic words: "Your visa has been approved and you will get in a week through courier."

So, as a vast majority of friends have said here, I'll repeat: it all depends on your confidence. Getting nerves is understandable, but, feeling confident and telling yourself that "you can do it" is the way to go.

All the very best to those who are yet to appear for the interview.

Cheers,
Mohan
