The following questions which I faced:
1. which company are you working for:
2. Who is your Client.
3. How much Experience.
4.what is your specialization.
5.What are you going to do for your Project.
6.He asked the tool which i used is Corporate Tool or Third Party Tool.
7.How Many members are in your project and why you selected for this.

Finally I heard the Golden words ‘I am Approving your Visa it will be couriered to you’
Be confident and prepare yourself for the interview.

thanks to this site and to all the users who post their experiences over here..i got my L1B approved today at US consulate delhi.

getting stratight to the point i was asked the following qns.

1. who is your employer
2. client
3. Role
4. work location
5 highest qualification

though most of the posts i have read say that be confident etc..my exp. says that it doesnt matter..your visa is approved/rejected before hand only by the details you fill in the DS160. the VO is just looking for a reaffirmation from the system and isnt even a **** bothered about what you answer

It's my turn today to post my experience in immihelp.
I attended my L1B visa interview at Hyderabad Counsulate.

VO is asked only 5 questions.

1)VO: are you working for ZZZA company (Igot H1 from ZZZA)
  ME: No Sir, Iam working for ZZZB

2)VO: Shall i cancel your H1?
  ME: Yes Sir, You can

3) VO: why are you going to US?
   ME: to use my specialized knoweldege---- at client place

4) VO:How long with current company ZZZB
   ME: 5 years

5) VO: how long with current client
   ME: 3 years

VO: Your VISA is approved and u can receive in week's time.

First of all my sincere thanks to one and all who has posted their experiences and especially the organisers of this forum.

We had our appointments at 9AM on 16th July. We have reached embassy at 08:20AM and everything was completed by 08:40AM, may be because of my 5month old kid :-)

As everybody mentioning in this forum, at consulate they will give preference to family that to who are attending with infants.

Its hardly took 2 minutes to listen the golden words from VO, who is a tall & lean guy(looks like a gentleman) sitting at counter#1. Before me there was a lady and he took nearly 3-5min to her and asked so many questions to her before approving the VISA.

Here is our conversation with VO.

Me: Hello Sir Good Morning
VO: Good Morning with a smile on his face by seeing my kid.
VO: Documents please
Me: I have submitted the documents.
VO: Had you been to US earlier?
Me: No, but I had been to UK with the same client.
VO: Who is your client?
Me: YYYY
VO: First asked my wife to place her left index finger and then he asked me to do the same.
VO: What is your speacilisation?
Me: I have told about my experience with the client, and my understanding about the client's architecure & process. Which helped me to become specialised in gathering the requirements,analysis, design,develop and implementation of the project.
VO: What are you doing for your client?
Me: I will be working on end to end implementation of the project(at this point he was busy with some typing in his system, so he didn't hear and aked me what so I have repeated it again) by assisting my client in design,development and implementation of the project. And also I am working on customising and migrating the existing application using latest technologies(Seems he was happy with the last statement).

He took my BEP folder and dropped the I90 form in the same place where I left my documents(with this I got to know he is happy to approve our VISA).

Latter on he asked the following questions to my wife.

VO:Are you working?
My Wife: I was working, but now I am on leave.
VO: What were you doing?
My Wife: I was also working with the same company as Analyst(as both of us working in the same company).
VO: How long you have been married?
My Wife:XX months.
VO: And, how old is your kid now?
My Wife: X month XX days.
VO: Your visa's have been approved, you will recieve the same in a week.
Me & My Wife:We said "thank you" to him and left the place.

We have finished evertying by 8:40 but the actual appointment was at 09:00AM :-)

If you are going with kid, please inform the main gate security rather than standing in the long queue. I am sure they will understand your situation, and will allow you to show your appointment letter and passport and will send you right away.

I have practised like anything, but when the VO asked I have given point to point explanation alothough I prepared in detail. So my sincere suggestion is prepare in your words which will be simple and easy for you to remember.

My interview was scheduled at 9:15 AM on 17th July. I reached the consulate 25 min before the scheduled time. It was not very crowded.After the security check we passed through a heavy door. The coordinator directed us to counter where the required documents were sorted and put into the blue file (BEP file). after that i had to go to ther other building where i submitted the DD and collected the reciept. The coordinator asked me to stand in the queue which lead to counter 4 and 5. there were around 5-7 people ahead of me. I noticed that the lady at counter 4 (not the others have referred as the fat lady) rejected 3 candidates in a row though they seemed to be giving a lot of explanation abut their duties. i got a little nervous as i had not prepared so much details. anyway while i was waiting for my turn , the coordinator asked me to go to counter 1 as it was less crowded. i was a little relived as i had observed that most of the candiates on counter 1 were for L2 visa with babies and most of them were approved. i moved to counter one, the visa for guy ahead of me also was approved. Finally my turn came and here is the conversation:

Me: Hi Good morning mam, how are you?
VO: hello good morning, i am fine how are u (she asked that with a pleasant smile, so was lil relieved)
Me: I am fine , thank you.
VO: So you would be working on an inhouse
    product (ours is a product based company)
Me: Yes Mam, thats rite.
(i heard her 2nd question wrong and i thought she is asking about the compnay)
Me: my company works on YYYY ZZZ, its clients are
     YYYY XX
VO: I actually asked your duties there
Me: (shit) i am sorry , as a senior QA engineer
    my job is to ensure a good quality product
    is delivered to the client. i would be
    interacting with the clients... (and before
    i could complete she asked me the next
    question)
VO: who is your client?
Me: our clients are YYYY XX
VO: So the client is at xxxx location (she
    mentioned the location i am travelling to)
Me: No mam, the produect is used by many clients
    across US. I would be based in xxxxx
    location though
VO: Whats your specialization?
Me: I have worked on the product for over 2
    years and 7 months. i.e the whole of my
    tenure with this company. I have undergone a
    classroom training on the product and also
    have worked on some complex projects. I have
    gained good knowledge on the product... (
    she interuupted me agagin and stanped the
    form and signed)
(i was waiting to listen to the respose and finally she spoke the golden words)
VO : Your Visa has been approved and would be
     couriered to you.
( couldnt make out what she said for a moment and then realised its approved)
Me : Thank you very much mam, have a great day :)


I wont be giving too many tips cos sometimes it depends on VO as well. The VO i went to was pleasnt to me (i am not sure if they refer to her as fat lady)
Try to answer to the point. I felt that the unnecessary explanation might lead to rejection.
From my conversation , you can see that non of the answers were too explanatory. Some answers could be in in just yes or no as well.

I hope this would help. I have shared my email id as well though not many have cos i knew how tensed i was, before the interview.

Stay cool!.I dint discuss abt it with many people cos i dint want negative thoughts (it works) but did practice a few times in front of mirror.

Anyway , its no big deal, and sometimes its mere luck..

My interview was scheduled on 07/17/10 Saturday 09:15 AM at Chennai consulate. The visa officer asked me only 5 Q's and the interview lasted for 3 minutes.

My application for the L1B visa was rejected by the consulate official. My interview was taken by a man.


Me: Good moning sir
VO: Very good morning

VO: Please place your left index finger.
Me: Done

VO: Who is your client?
Me: AIG - American International Group

VO: How long you are working for this client?
Me: 2 years & 5 months

VO went on typing something.

VO: What is your experience?
Me: Overall 4 years & 5 months, in HCL it's 2 years and 5 months.

VO: What you will do in US?
Me: Implementation of 11g RAC, Real Application cluster Databases and migration of SQL Servers to Oracle databases along with onsite co-ordination.

Again he started typing something.

VO: What are your specialized skills?
Me: RAC - Real Application Cluster, Dataguard, ASM - Automatic storage management, Cloning.

I was very confident and calm till he said as below,

VO: Your blanket L1 application can't be clearly approvable. You can try with other application. [He gave me blue form, 221(g) the same time]
Me: Ok. Thanks for your valuable time and left the place.


He highlighted the below on blue form and am attaching the same.
'your blanket L1 application is not clearly approvable under section 8 CFR 214.2(I)(ii)(D) and INA101(a)(15)(L)'

Could you please let me know why my visa application was rejected?

First of all many thanks to the immihelp.com team and the people who have shared their experiences here.

My interview was on 8th July 2010 at 10:30 AM. As it was raining heavily in Mumbai and I was with my spouse and two kids, I reached bit early to VFS office in Mumbai. As I was with family, VFS people allowed me to enter the VFS lounge early (Actually they allow you to enter the VFS lounge only 45 minutes to 1 hour early before your interview time). Thanks to VFS.

At 9:15 VFS perosn asked us to start for the bus which carries you from VFS office to US Counsulate.

Before reaching the counsulate, he asked us to keep our DD's, Interview letter and passport handy. Once we reached counsulate office, I seen they give the preference to the family to enter the counsulate. So we went inside the counsulate after the initial security check.

After completing the finger prints (they will not ask for the kids) we were waiting for our turn for interview. Here is the conversation at the time of visa interview.

Me: Hi... Good morning Mam.

VO: Good morning Sir.

VO: Documents please.

Me: Provided the documents.

VO: Sir, you have already tarvelled for US?

Me: Yes Mam. (Actually I travelled earlier to US on B1 Visa)

VO: For which client?

Me: I mentioned the client name and the city.

VO: Can you please tell me the time span you, were in US?

Me: I told the number of days.

Then she asked me to stand behind and asked my daugheter to come. At that time she suggested me not to prompt her anything.

VO: Hi (With a smile) (To my daughter - She is 8 years old)

My daughter - Hi (With a smile)

VO: What's your age?

My Daughter: 8 years.

VO: What's your name?

My Daughter: She told her name.

Now the VO was happy with her answers. My son was with my wife. She asked only one question to my wife.

VO: Can you please tell me the age of the kid?

My WIfe: He is three years old.

Again VO started asking questions to me.

VO: So sir, for which client you are planning to travel now?

Me: Told the client name.

VO: Can you please tell me the location?

Me: Told the location.

VO: For how long you are working with this client?

Me: From last 4 months.

While asking these questions, VO started staming on the form.

VO: So sir... all set (With a big smile). Your visa is approved.

We said thanks to her and left.

So guys keep yourself cool and calm. Please don't panic for anything. This is very important. They are not there to reject you.

It was my second bad experience (even worser than the first one). I already got rejected for L1B in the year 2007 and reapplied for L1B recently. As everyone went to the embassy with great hopes and smile. After the document verfication stood in the queue. When its almost my trun to go the corordinator there diverted me to another counter (Unlucky counter unknown to me). The VO (fat lady) was interviweing one tourist visa couple and was asking n number of questions and rejexted thier visa. My turn came.

Me : Hi Madame. Good Afternoon.
VO : Hi (with a sigh and unwillingness)
VO : (Requested for the folder just by pointing)
Me : Sure. (gave the file and she started verifying my detsils in the system)
VO : Did u apply for L1B before.
ME : Yes mam . In the year 2007
VO : Status?
Me : Got refused.
VO : So this time also i m refusing your visa.
Me : Last time i posses less expereince but now i have 4 years of expereince in the project.. (suddenly she interrupted)
Vo : You know the rules of US Embassy rite. once the office has said his decision u should not argue. Wait and get ur passport back (She started taking the Blue form)
Me : K.Sure (with blued face)
VO : Ask your company to apply for some other category (L1Individual)
Me : (Within my heart i said "One more time huh .. I cant ")

Thats the end of my another pathetic tradegy in US consulate.
