First all i would like thanks immihelp.com for this excellent forum. My interview was scheduled at 10:30. After getting the token number, I waited around 15- 20 minutes for my number to be displayed, then went to my counter 1 where they verified the fees submitted and stapled two I129 forms. Then that person asked me to go counter no. 24 to submit the DD. After submitting the DD guy asked me to go for finger printing at counter 10. After that i waited for nearly 45 mins for my interview.

Hi,

Thanks to evryone who has posted their exp in this site. It was really helpful to prepare myself before the interview. Given below are the Q&A i faced at the consolate:

Me: Good Morning
VO: GM
Me: How are u doing?
VO: Am fine, thank you, how about u?
Me: Am doing good
VO: How long have you been in the current organisation?
Me: mentioned the duration
VO: Where were you working prior to this?
Me: With XYZ
VO: What’s your skill set?
Me: mentioned the technology nemas and tool name ( just the names, no explanations given)
VO: Clients name?
Me: xxx
VO: Ur current project?
Me: yyy
VO: Please explain your job role in US?
Me: Informed that i will be performing implementation and upgrade of the infrastructure i am working on, with very brief description.
VO: Can you detail?
Me: Again, i just detailed the project in short and simple terms, in 3 sentence.
VO: Tools/devices used?
Me: zzz
VO: Any proprietary tools
Me: Yes, zzz is my company proprietary tool
VO: Person whom you will be reporting to in US?
Me: Mr.ABC
VO: His designation
Me: Provided the designation
VO: Team strength in offshore and onsite?
Me: Provided the head counts
VO: Your visa is approved and passport will be sent back
Me: Thank you and u have a good day
VO: Thanks & same to u!

Ground rule is to be confident in your replies, don’t give lengthy descriptions about the technology you are working on or use technical jargons, be short and don’t add any unwanted extra points. Answer only to the question asked. Have seen people trying to add more info in their explanations and getting screwed up.

All the best!

I had my visa interview on the 9th of August 2010 at Chennai. The interview was ok not very complicated. All I feel is that be very conscience on what you say and not let the VO to grab a loose word from your mouth.

Thanks to this site as I did a lot of mock interviews referring to people experience in this site.

Anyways these were the questions

VO: How long you working in YYYY company?
Me: just 2 years and 5 months.

VO: Do you have a client in US?
Me: Yes. We have YYYY as client.

VO: What are you going to do in US?
Me: Explained that I am going to work for a ABC system.

VO: What is YYYY going to do with that ABC system?
Me: Explained the purpose of it.

Thats' it and he wrote some papers and said visa would arrive in 1 week.

I had visa interview on Aug 06 morning 9.15 and i saw lot of rejections on that day. Vo called me and asked this below questions.

Purpose of your trip?
Explained in one sentence.

How many exp in current company?
what is your current salary?
what you doing at offshore?

have you travelled before usa?
If yes then VO asked me to breif about my business visa trip.

then finally he said visa is approved.

Be confident and dont use more technical terms make simple sentence and tell then they can understand easily.Luck matters lot.

All the best for future visa interview people.

L1 B Visa Approved @ Chennai ! 6th Aug
Hello All !

Thanks to all those who posted their experiences on Immi. It was of great help in the preparation.

We had our Visa interview this morning at 8:30 AM. Reached there by 8 AM. We were called into the line. After all the initial checks and formalities, we finnaly arrived in front of the counters where the Visa Officers(VO) were seated. While waiting in the line we saw many Visas getting rejected too! Didn't get to see the "Fat lady " that many ppl described in their posts :)
And then the moment arrived when we were called to the counter. The officer had just rejected two visas just prior to us and that was scary!

This is how the interview went:

We: Good morning officer!
VO: Good morning! How are you both this morning?
We: Doing good ! How about you? ( passed the documents over)
VO:Doing good, thank you!
VO: So, how long have you been working with YYYY company?
Me: 3years and 4 months
Vo:Thats a long time !
Me: Yes, quite long ( smiling :) )
VO: What project are you going to be working on?
Me: I'm going to be working for YYYY project.
VO: What is your role?
Me: Mentioned my role in 1 word( i had heard that you need to tell all details, but for me he didn't ask for any more details)
VO: Whats your salary in the US?
Me : YYYY $ a year
VO: whats your salary in India?
Me: YYYY lacs per year.
VO:Why were you selected for this assignment?
Me: Because i have been on this project for xxx months , have knowledge on xxx.
VO: How long have you been married?
Me: X years and X months.
VO( to spouse) : Was ur marriage a love or arranged?
Spouse: It was a love marriage.
VO: How did your parents feel abt it?
Spouse:They were happy about it.
VO: How long are you going to be in the US.
Spouse: Same duration as husband...

Then he started signing on the docs and informed us that the visa is granted!

Tips:

1. Relax no matter what happens around you.
2. Listen to the question carefully and answer to the point, confidently.
3. The moment you go to the counter, look relaxed , smile and maintain eye contact at all times with the officer.
4. Have as many mock rounds as you can before you appear for the interview.

L1 B stamped at Hyd Consulate...Had H1 B rejection in 08
first and formost, taking a hat off for immihelp.com...It is immensely helpful...
Here are my two cents:
1.Read as much experiences as you can on the site.
2.Nothing prepares you for visa but preparation...do it well..know your petition, client, project, company and etc.
3.No matter of history can come your way if you are deserving candidate for current visa status..e.g. H1 B denials or any F1B rejections, if L1 B is genuine situation...

after a long winding line and wait of 2 hrs, I finally got to see BEP counter and get my submitted docs back...Go to counter no. X..
another Q and twenty ppl waiting...
Finger printing done with handholding of a child..a guy is standing outside and presses your fingers for you..lol...
another seating until next call..
okay finally called the token no. and window...

VO:Hello..
ME:Morning..
VO:(in a hurry) How long you been working for this company?
ME:X Years
VO:What are you going to do in US?
ME:..............
VO:What is your product experience?
ME:.....
VO:Who is your client?
ME:...
VO:You will get passport in courier.....Have a good day..
ME:YOU TWO!

It paid off...just remember that honesty and confidence helps big time...
I was apprehensive on being asked questions on my previous H1 B rejection or B1 visits I had...nothing came my way...

thanks to ppl who post their experiences...to those who dont, screw you!

L1B Blanket approved at Chennai on Aug 05th
The VO just asked me few questions
1.How long have you been with ZZZ?
2.Who is your client. How long have you been with YYY?
3.What will you do in the US?
4.What is this application about?
Then seeing from my passport that Ive already visited US,he asked me few questions on my previous visit and then put my passport and other documents inside a bin/container.At that moment I knew I am going to get it.After writing the approval date in my petition papers, came the golden words:)..Lucky day for me!

Tips:
1)Dont panic.Answer confidently. He doesnt know anything about your project or work you will be executing,he can only judge by the amount of confidence that you show on your face and voice.
2)Dont pay attention to whats happening to others in front of you.I saw many visas getting rejected right in front of my eyes(including people who have come with spouse and kid, elderly people who have come for visitor visas).Believe that the same thing is not going to happen to you.
3)Prepare to stay at the consulate atleast for 3-4 hours over all.I spent almost an hour standing in the long queue after getting inside since some of the visa officers take long time in questioning peeople.
4)Listen to what the VO asks for and then answer. If you are not clear about the question,Ask him again.I saw a guy panicking after he wasnt able to understand what the VO asked and he asked him 3,4 times to repeat the question.Pay attention!
All the best to everyone who is preparing to appear for the interview:)

got my L1b
Thanks to the numerous posts in this website.
i got my L1b blanket visa approved today along with my spouse's and 2 month old son (L2).
i was very tensed as the VO had rejected 2 candidates in front of me and moreover one was with his family.

questions asked:
1. For which project are you going to US?
2. Are you the only one from India working on this project?
3. How many people in the team from US?
4. Will you be working for xxxx company?
5. what will be your salary?

questions asked to my wife:
1. How many years were you married?
2. How old is your son?

He started typing some stuffs and i was very nervous at that time as he typed a lot of stuffs before rejecting. But he then said that our VISA is approved and we wished him and left.

Notes:
1. i guess its the confidence with which we give the correct answer which matters.
2.the company with whom you work too matters.
3. if possible, wear the company ID visible to the VO.
4. Ultimately its our VISA and we should know what we are working on and for whom. There is no short-cut, so please prepare well before you go for the interview.
5. You need to answer the questions correct the first time, no goof-ups as there would be cross questions.
6. Hear the VO very attentively. At times what he is asking is not clear through the glass window.

Thanks a lot to the moderators of the site!
All the best for everyone who will be appearing for their Visa interview.
Thanks.
