L1-B Blanket visa approved on 13th July 2010 @ Chennai
I would like to thank the moderators of this forum for the wonderful platform they have provided for US visa seekers.

I had my PA scheduled at 9AM. I joined the queue outside the consulate by 8:20AM.
The security check and the document verification went on smoothly.
After paying the DD, I was sent to another hall where the PA has going on. I waited for my turn.

This was the interview.

VO: Place your left hand fore finger on the reader.
I did so and confirmed if it was okay. She said it is fine.

VO: Do you work for the client ZZZ?
Me: Yes, My client is ZZZ.

VO: What will be your role in US?
Me: I will be working as a technical Analyst. I will be involved in the technical design of a new application.
(I explained the application. Also explained what knowledge is demanded for this design and how do I gained that knowledge from my experience.)

VO: How long you have been with ZZZ?
Me: For 3 years and 8 months.

VO: Your visa is approved ma'am. You will receive your passport in couple of days.
Me: Thank you ma'am. Have a nice day.
VO: Thank you. You too.

Note:
For L1B Blanket applicants,
Please do not wait for the question "What is your specialised skill?" to come, this question may come to you in any form like
What is your role at onsite?/ What will you do at onsite? / Why are you selected for this assignment? I was not asked about my specialised skill at all, but I spoke about my specialised skill when explaining my role at onsite.

Please do as many mock PAs a possible. It really helps a lot. Be cool, calm and confident.

Thank you guys.
All the best.

L1A blanket and L2 Approved
First of all thanks for all the people who have shared their experiences. My appointment was at 9am. Reached there at 8:40 to see a big line. I directly went to the security and asked if I could get in directly. Since my 6 year old son was there he said I can join the line in the front. The lady at the entrance box checked for our passports and said go ahead. For gents it is one entrance and ladies its a separate entrance as they have to do secutity check for items that we should not be carrying. Even Lipstick for ladies is not allowed. So ladies keep you cosmetics at home.:). Once we went into the embassy they were couple of people of who were guiding us to get our documents arranged. The documents they want us to keep are I129(3 copies), I797 and HDFC draft. Remaining all are not required. You should carry your originals though. After the documents were arranged they asked me to go and deposit the fees in the next building. Once fees is deposited they gave a receipt for it and stapled one copy to the I129. Then we were directed to next room where the actual VO interviews were going on. The Helper there saw the family and said to stand in counter 1 or 2 for families. All the others were in one line for the rest of the counters. So if you are going with family you can get a jump ahead. The Helper asked my wife and son to be seated and me to stand in the line. Only 1 guy was there in the line.My turn came.

VO: Hi Sir
Me: Hello madam

VO: Can I have the documents
Me: Sure and I slided the documents to her

VO: How long were you in US on your previous L1
Me: x years

VO: Where were you in US?
Me: M **** **

VO: Oh wisconsin
Me: Yes Madam

VO: Now where are you going?
me: To the same place M **** **

VO: What will you do there
me: Told the reason

VO: Where is your wife?
me: I called my wife and son

VO: (seeing that I was not having any documents for my son) Is he an American citizen?
me: Yes

VO: What Visa were you on when he was born?
me: L1

VO asked my wife to place right hand index finger on the scanner and then asked me to place my left had index finger on the scanner. My son was asking the VO to place his fingerprint. She smiled and said sweety go ahead. She joking said to my son now i have you print so dont get into any trouble. She gave me the documents back and said the passport will be sent back in a week's time. We said thank you and left.

So guys keep you cool and there is no reason for panic. They also want to allow qualified people and it will help US develop better solutions. They are not out there to reject you. They just want to make sure the right people are allowed on the right type of visa. Technically Skilled people on H1. Specialists on L1B. Managers of L1A. Simple.

L1-B Visa Experience in Chennai
Let me start with thanking everyone here for posting their experiences. Going through them helped me a lot in preparing. I hope my experience will prove to be helpful to someone as well.

To start with, I was worried about my L1-B visa for an entirely different reason; I lost my original school, college and engineering certificates a few months back. Hence, I was worried that I won't be even allowed to apply for the visa to begin with. I sent an email to the Chennai consulate explaining my predicament and they replied back saying that I can bring along my Xerox copies and explain the same to the VO over at the consulate.

Armed with this information, I landed at the Chennai consulate on 9th July, a Friday for an 11:15 AM appointment. After having joined the line at around 10:45 AM, we were asked to come to the front of the line as out interview window was fast approaching. The process started off with getting your visa interview appointment letter stamped at the main gate, we were allowed inside in batches where detailed security check was done for all the documents as well as full body frisking.

In the next room, we waited a while before being directed to one of the twelve counters where Indian officials went through your documents and took your finger prints. After this we were directed to another adjacent building in the same compound where the actual visa interview would take place.

There was quite a crowd on Friday which I think worked in my favour as the VO were not taking too long in interviewing any of the applicants. While there were at least 7 counters, by a quirk of fate, we were finally forced to get our interview done by one counted manned by the same lady who is lovingly referred to here as the fat lady. :)

There have been quite a few rejections before I walked in for my interview. Also saw a lot of applicants being handed over the red form that denoted additional admin processing. Finally after having waited for around 30 mins, my turn came to walk up to the VO officer. This is what happened there:

VO: Good morning Sir.
Me: Good morning madam.

VO: What will you be doing in USA.
Me: I will be implementing our client proprietary software, YYYY at the client side.

VO: How many years of experience do you have with this tool?
Me: Around 3.5 years of experience.

VO: Was this including training?
Me: No, I had additional training of 3 months.

VO: How many people in your company are experts in this tool?
Me: Around 50 people.

VO: In that case, why have you been selected and not anyone else?
Me: Mainly because of my experience in having handled such projects earlier as well as the fact that before working for this particular client, we have to go through stringent background checks. Only if you clear these background checks, will you be eligible to work in this project.

VO: And your background check has been done?
Me: Yes madam.

At this point, she started typing into the system followed by stamping my Homeland Security documents and informed me that my visa has been approved and will be couriered to me within 5 days. I thanked her and left the counter after that.

TIPS: Besides the usual tips like keeping calm and not panicking, I noticed that people who were at least senior developers or system analysts have better chances of cracking it.

I also think that you should not be too concerned if you end up in the bald man or the fat lady's counter. It all depends upon your luck and there doesn't seem to be any ulterior motive for rejecting visa applications as such. Infact, the lady was downright polite and charming. If it is of any consolation, I did not see the bald man on any of the counters, so I guess he has either retired or has moved out.

For those who have any issues with the documents, do not worry and just contact the consulate and get your problems sorted, like I did with mine. Though I took my xerox copies, I was never asked for those.

I hope this is helpful to everyone. All the best to you all!
