Visitor Visa granted to my mom and dad
Thanks to immihelp we had all the documents in place. They carried all the documents recommended by immihelp for the visa interview. At the time of interview at the Mumbai Counsulate, they were not asked to show the documents. The Officer asked the following questions :

Where does your son-in-law work?
Does your daughter work in US?
How long have they been in the US?
How long are you going to stay in US?

Then they returned their passports and told them that the visa is granted. My parents got 10 years multiple entry visa.

We had made preparations for the interview based on the experiences of the readers posted on this site.

In-laws got 10 yrs visitor visa - some key notes
My in-laws appeared for visa interview in Telugu on June 6th and got a 10 yr visitor visa. Thanks to immihelp.com for guidelines to docs and another friend for some additional prep. Please note, one of my friend's in-laws were "twice" rejected for visa and after following this other friend's guidelines in prepping docs/files... they got the visa. I used same process on top of immihelp's doc guidelines... here are they.

1. I prepared all docs as per immihelp.com
2. I prepared 2 binders - 1 for my FIL, and anothber for my MIL
3. I used sheet savers and placed each doc in a sheet saver. On each sheet saver, I placed a yellow circular sticker and wrote a page number.
4. At the beginning of the binder, I included extra sheet in sheet saver for index. It contained 3 columns - 1 desc in english, 1 desc in telugu and another for sheet saver number
5. These two binders had all the docs that immihelp suggested.

6. I provided additional binder to my in-laws, with sheet savers and index to carry the DDs, originals from their side etc ... just in case, they need to pull out something.

I assume that the consulate employees found it easy to locate the docs, order etc in the binders.

Also, I emphasized on showing good bindings in India... e.g.
* They supported their application with a charted accountant certificate of consolidation or properties upto Rs.90 Lakhs.
* Also, they showed a family photo having themselves, their son, their daughters (other than my wife), their grand children, then - myself and my wife included in it.

These two also seemed to have played key role.
After reviewing these files... the consular didn't ask any questions but,

"How long are you going to stay?"

to which, my in-laws replied...

"6 months".

I hope this information should be helpful for some of you.

thanks,
-Srikanth

parents visitors visa denied
hi
my parents visitor visa application was denied on june 13th at US consulate delhi.they arrived there 3 hours before the interview but were allowed to enter only 30 minutes before scheduled appointment. i made all the documents as per this web site and got my parents preapred for all the possible questions by reading diferent experiences through this web site.the CO who was interviewing my parents was very nice and polite.first they were called by an american consulate but with a problem to undestand american accent they were sent to next counter where an indian consulate interviewed them. my parents were asked about 17 questions(most of them were answered by my mom) which are posted below and hope it will help other readers of this web site..

who is there in USA?
son
from how long?
2 years
what does he do?
he is xxxxx
what visa he went on?
j1
what visa is he holding now?
h1b1
what do you do?
my mother replied she is a government servent.
when do you retire?
after 10 years.
how many kids do you have?
one son and a daughter.
where is she?
she is studying here in india.
how much is your annual income?
xxxxx
then the consulate started asking my father..
what do you do?
retired
where from?
xxxxx company
what postion?
xxxx
do you get pension?
my father said yes..
how much?
xxxxx(as my father was working for a private firm and so the pension was not very high)
this answered did all the damage as the CO stopped at this point and went inside.after 5 minutes she returned the passport and said `sorry`.
my parents were shocked as the whole interview went very smoothly and they were expeting a positive result.

what i feel is that was my mistake because in form DS156 i put my father as a cosponsor for the trip.even though i showed a healthy bank balance of $12000.00 if my father had showed his bank balance report right after teling his penson amount, it would have been a different story then.he should have told that he has enough money in his bank to pay for his trip and he is not dependent on his pension.although visa officer checked all my documents including pay stubs, bank statement,h1b1 approval letter,I-134 and passport copies.

so finally visa was rejected because of financial situation of my father which was not true.as my dad took a bank balance report for last 6 months with a large amount of cash in his account and the property documents with him.

i am reapplying for them in september with the same documents and this time puting my self the only sponsorer of the trip.

all the best to everybody who are applying for their parents..

In-laws got 10 yrs multiple entry VISA from Chennai
Very happy to inform that my in-laws got 10 yrs multiple entry VISA from Chennai this week. The whole experience of taking the appointment for interview, applying for passports, preparing the documents, preparing them for the interview and anxiously waiting to hear the good news about the VISA the day of their interview was all exciting! Initially we got our appointment in July end (for Telugu) when I booked it in Feb for my M-I-L as only she had the passport and it took a while for my F-I-L to get is NOC as he was a Govt. Employee. He finally got his NOC and passport in Apr and we took an appointment for him in English, which we got in beginning of July. We kept trying to change my MIL's appointment for an earlier date, but were never successful :(. We are at least lucky with the appointment for my FIL in English after several tries to move the date by few days. We were in a dilemma whether to have separate appointments for them or to cancel both n take it in English as we felt the dates were available in English. After thinking for a couple of days, we decided to cancel both the appointments and took one single in English, which we got for beginning of Sep and on several attempts finally got lucky and got for middle of June :). We are now eagerly waiting for them.....

Here are the questions that were asked to my FIL

1) What do U do ?
A) He told his profession, but the officer asked about the details of job and my FIL told him.

2) What is the purpose of your trip ?
A) Tourism and visiting daughter & son-in-law
(same as in the DS-156 form)

3) What does ur SIL do ?
A) Told my profession title (my MIL tipped my FIL as he was having issues getting my title right ;))

4) How much salary do U get per month ?
A) Rs YYYY X per month

5) How long do U want to stay in US ?
A) 3 months and I've my leave letter for that(make sure U tell what U put in the DS-156 form)

6) How many children do U've in India and what do they do ?
A) Told the family details

No questions asked to MIL, officer said, go pay the fee and good luck!

Luckily we asked them both most of the above questions that morning few hours before the interview, which might have helped! :).

All the documents were prepared per guidance from this site and some of the key things were... that he still has 7 yrs left for his retirement and children who depend on them, which strenthened ties in India.

So guys... don't b disappointed if U don't get the dates U expect in the beginning. Take what ever U get and keep trying to get earlier dates. Good luck to all!

Parents Visa
Hi
I have sponsored Visa for my parents and they got it for 10 years.
One thing I wanted to say was ,I had read on this site that when asked "Who is paying for the trip?" ,do not say that "We can also afford to pay ".This is absolutely wrong. The ideal answer is "My son/daughter is sponsoring but I can also afford to buy the ticket." Also be ready with how much u think u may have to spend on the ticket, insurance.Do not stick to "
My son/daughter is sponsoring".

Thanks
Prachi

My mom and dad got 10 year multiple entry in mid april from chennai consulate. They had already visited USA in 2003, when they were given only 1 year visa. This time they reapplied. The only question asked to my dad "what did you see last time in USA?" I had prepared them to answer this question based on the names of the places we visited during their previous trip.

Thanx to immihelp I compiled all the questions and answers

parents visa denial
Hi,
My Parents got visa denied in Chennai today 16 June. I am guessing it might be rejected for not answering one of the question correctly. My Parents misunderstood one of the questions asked by the consulate officer. The answer which they told did match with what it is in the I-134 form. The consulate officer rounded that question in the 134 form and rejected the question
What are the chance of getting the visa if they try again? Will they see the reason of rejecting the visa first time??

Should implement "IMMIHLEP"same in Sri Lanka Also
Hi All,

This is the first time that I am visiting this page “IMMIHELP” thru the US embassy web page in Sri Lanka, however the Sri Lankan, site which provide information is not sufficient enough like the immihelp.

Should implement same in Sri lanka as well, since majority of people are facing problems when facing the interview for tourist visa for US, will be also planning to apply fOR the visiting visa in near future.

Kind regards,

Angela
