Hello all,
This forum is a great one in the L1/L2 visa information, especially the consulate experience. We (me, wife and our 2.9 yrs old kid) appeared for our L1/L2 visas on Mar 23rd Monday at Chennai. The experience was very nice and smooth.
Our time was 9:00 am and we reached the consulate by 8:15. There was a long queue, but we were let in by 8:40. Me and my son entered through the security check door for males, while wife was seperated as she had to proceed through the door for females. The security check was some what detailed as the current situation demands it. They even checked my kid, though lightly trying not to make him upset. He also took it in that sense but asked me, "why that uncle is pressing me"? :)
We entered the building, and waited 5 minutes for wife to join. The staff inside were very helpful. They let us to stand in the verification counter queue first as we had our kid with us. After 2 minutes we got a counter vacant, in which a nice lady was sitting. She checked the necessary documents, took finger prints and gave back a green file containing necessary docs (passport, aproval note etc). Though the kid doesnt have to take finger prints, he wanted it as he saw us doing it. She let him to do that (just placing his fingers on the machine) and wished us luck and told that we are lucky since he is not crying and in a good mood.
A helping official directed us to his colleague, a lady, who directed us to the right most counter, counter num 1. Actually I thought it was some second round of verification as the actual visa officers sit in the other building where we have to go. But they have a VO in this building to help familys to complete the process easily.
We exchanged good mornings first.
He asked few qns,
My total years of experience in this co
My catagory of Visa
Is it a blanket or independant (mine was ind)
My skill
Asked for the copy of original petition, I-129
typed something on his computer, again asked my total years in co, again typed something. Asked my wife to place her index finger on machine, then asked me the same but middle finger. Again silence and typing for few seconds. Finally the golden words, "your passports will reach at you office in a weeks time"
We thanked him and left. We were out by 9:20, so fast. For my B1 in 2007, it took almost 2.5 hours in consulate.
So guys, go with confidence, in a good attire with formals (I had a tie too and I recommend it), and answer the qns without any tension, in short words with best of your knowledge. Visa is yours.
