Age for Visitor Visa
Hi Everyone,

I just heard that if parents are over 60 year old then they don't have to go to the madras consulate for the visitor visa interview?

Is that true? Does anyone know?

Parents and in-law got visitor visa in first attempt
My mom, dad and my father-in-law all got the visitor visa (Telugu interpreter). Not yet sure how many years as they have not received the passports.

When I took the appointment I talked to the consulate in Madras asking them if I need seperate appointments for my parents and my father-in-law and they suggested it is not required. But later on talking to my friends and reading on the net found that it was not a good idea. The whole time I was worried about it. But finally all my worries have a happy ending. They got it.

I sent all the documents as mentioned in this site. Prepared and organized all the documents in different folders and blah...blah...

Questions asked to my father-in-law:
What relation do you have with other two people (my mom and dad)?
Where do you work?
What is your salary?
Do you have NOC as you are a Govt employee?
Where is your leave sanctioned letter? My father-in-law did not have one and said he would obtain after the visa
How many months will you apply for the leave?
How many kids do you have?
Where are they? Both my wife and her brother are in USA and my FIL answered the same
Why does your wife not accompanying you? My FIL answered that she passed away couple of years back.

Questions asked to my father:
Who is the sponsorer?
Where do you work? retired
Do you get any pension?
Who is your youngest among your kids and where? Hyderabad
Who is the eldest and where is he/she located? Hyderabad
Why did you not go to USA all these years? busy with someother activities and my son got Green Card recently and wanted us to spend some time

Questions asked to my mother:
When did your son last visit INDIA?
When did your son get married?
How many kids you have?

The only documents that the officer reviewed asked was NOC of my Father-in-Law and the documents that I sent (I-134, income tax returns, passport copies, etc.,) while the interview was going on.

The whole process took about 10 minutes and the office said to go and pay the fees and said "Good Luck". It seems the same lady officer was rejecting left and right earlier on and my parents were worried but in the end all turned out well. I had prepared questionaire using this site and that really helped them a lot. Good luck to you all.

List of questions that I composed from this website before my parents and FIL went for visa and thought it might be useful for someone else and here they are:
What is the purpose of your trip?
Who lives in the US?
Why are you going to US?
How long has your daughter been there?
How many children do you have?
Do you own the place in HYD?
Does anybody else live with you?
Where do you work?
Which department did you retire from?
How much pension do you receive?
What is your annual income??
Who is sponsoring you?
What is your son's name?
Where does your son/son-in-law work?
What does your son do?
What does your daughter/daughter-in-law do?
Did your son send an invitation letter to you?
Did your son send any letter addressed to the consulate?
Show me the Sponsor documents?
How many children do you have?
When did your son get married?
How long have they been in US?
Why 6 months?
How many sons/daughters are in US and how many in INDIA?
Do you intent to stay in US for long time?
What visa did your son go on?
What visa is he holding now?
What visa did your daughter-in-law go on?
What visa is daughter-in-law holding now?
How much expense do you think will be incurred on this trip?
Who will pay for your expenses?
Do you want US Citizenship?
Do you want to immigrate to USA?
When your son/daughter-in-law last visited you?
How much property do you have?
If consulate officer asks that I will issue a visa for 10 years, how long will you stay?
When did your son get his green card?
Is your son a US Citizen? NO
What place does your son live in?

Parents got visitor visa in 2nd attempt
my Parents got visitor visa (10 Yrs mutilple) in 2nd attempt at Mumbai consulate on 30th June.
1st time rejection under 214-b.

Thanks all for sharing their experiences

Their visa was rejected earlier saying that both kids are in USA and they do not have enough ties.
we reapplied immediatley and got date after 2 months. I did 2 diff. things this time.
1)I asked them to take Marathi interpreter because sometimes it becomes diff. to understand accent.
2)I send letter(addressing consulate) hiliting all the reasons that they will return back like taking care of my grandmother, part time job, family ties etc. I also asked them to carry some family photographs.

This is what happened.
Since there was no Marathi interpreter available, American counselor offer to interview them in Hindi. my parents agreed. She was pretty good in Hindi.

Questions:
1)All general questions regarding my job, employer, place of work, joining date, birth date etc.
2)how much is ur sons salary?
3)since when is ur sone in US
4)Since when is ur daughter in US
5)how can u take a vacation for so long?--my father had NOC letter from his part time employer.
6)Who will take of ur stuff when ur gone?

Imp. pt. to note is that she asked "why will u come back ??" suddenly in 3 different ways in between all other questions.
Answer was family ties accompanied by photographs,
part time job and most imp. taking care of my grandmother.

I think, it is a good idea to prepare summarized letter of property showing bank balances, house, car details and get it certified by CA.

Thanks again and all the best.

Parents Visa Appl rejected
Hi All,
My parents visa appln was rejected recently , the reason i suspect is because neither me or my sibling live in India.
When the consular rep asks: Where are your children? they are actually tring to determine the dependence of the parents on the children , if the parents are retired and all their children are in the US or outside the country then it is viewed as possible immigration and a strong case for visa rejection.
Hope this helps!

Second folder for All the documentation from me (I134, Paystubs, Employment letter...)
Third folder for all Property documents prepared by our CA in India.

Questions asked:
1)How long have your son been staying in US?
Ans:X
2)Why didn't you visit your son for so long?
Ans: Busy with my work
3)What do you do?
Ans: Agriculture
4) What do you grow?
Ans: Rice; Mango and Citus Growings and list...
5) How many kids do you have?
Ans: XX
6) Where are they?
Ans: One in US and the rest in India

That's it. Parents were asked to pay for the visa

Remember readers, tell your parents/in-laws to be confident and GREET the officer. I compiled list of questions from this site; Put them on a paper and also Tape Recorded and sent along with the documentation. Cassette was so convenient for my Parents as they carried it along with them with my dad's Walkman/Radio.

The visa Officer (lady) was so cool, as per my Parents. Through out the interview, she was smiling and laughing.

Parents got visitor visa
Hi,

My parents got their visitor's visa at the Mumbai consulate this Monday. They had applied in 2003 previously and had been refused.

The first time they applied in 2003, they were asked the following questions.
-Where are you going?
-How long do you want to go?
-What is your source of income?
My dad answered that he is retired and is living off the interest.
-Do you pay income tax?
My Dad said No and that his interest income is within taxable limits.
-Do you have a pan card?
My Dad said No.
The visa officer said that visa is refused. On asking for a reason, he said that the consulate doesn't need to give a reason. Looking back, I think that it was refused because of non payment of tax and his retired status. I was on EAD at that time.

This time the questions asked were
-Who is there in the US?
-What does your son in the US do?
-What does your son in India do?
-For how long do you want to go?
My Dad answered that a maximum of 6 months.
-Why do you want to go for so long?
My Dad answered that my son is available only on the weekends and most probably he will be back within 4 months.
-Tell me the date you will return?
My Dad gave a tentative date.
-Show me the green card and invitation letter copies.

Then he said that you will get you passports in 2 days. My Dad couldn't understand this. It seems that the officer was a young guy and he got an interpreter to say that the visa had been granted. My parents thanked and then left. My mom was not asked any questions.

Please prepare all the documents as suggested on this site. Please go through the experiences and prepare your parents/others applying for visas by conducting mock interviews. Please don't hesitate to spend phone time/money.

If one is going for Visitor Visa 2nd or later time, please take the VISA extension Approval paper (atleast the copy), if they have extended their stay during their previous visit in USA. My in-laws had this experience recently. They were asked to come back with VISA extension approval letter from their previous visit, since they were asked for the proof of their legal stay in US.
My in-laws received the VISA, when they went back with the extension approval letter.
Questions asked:
Is your daughter working in US?
Why did you extend your VISA during your previous Visit?
Where is your son-in-law (Myself, the Sponsor) working in US and what job?
How long you are planning to stay in US?

5. How many children do you have?
Ans: bla bla.
6. What do you do for living?

7. Show us your son's tax returns?

Same CO rejected 4 cases before my parents interview. My parents were lil scary and thank god..it went smooth.
