As the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro is the only consulate that serves immigrant visa applicants, applicants from other regions also need to apply here.

It is a 13-story building. The U.S. Embassy used to be in the same building before the capital moved from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia.

Lost / Stolen Passport with a Valid Visa

Fill out an Incident Report (Boletim de Ocorrência) at the police station closest to where the incident happened. Fill out the Lost or Stolen Passport Form, and send an email to [email protected] including both forms.

For lost or stolen passports with a valid immigrant visa, send an email to

Interviews: 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM
Diplomatic/Official Passports: 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM 

Passports will be returned within 3 to 7 working days by courier service.

All non-emergency services are by appointment only. You must schedule an appointment online

Exception: U.S. social security benefit inquires can be scheduled by sending an email to [email protected], and the service is available only on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Any request for special assistance, such as wheelchair access, help in ascending stairs, etc., should be sent by email.

You need to mention only one of the needed services for your appointment, even if you need multiple services. 

You can use the same link above to cancel your appointment. Please provide at least 48 hours’ advance notice. Otherwise, you will have to wait for one week before being able schedule again.

Please arrive to the ACS Section on the Mezzanine floor (do not stand in the visa application line) 15 minutes prior to your appointment time.

Emergency Services

There is no appointment required for emergency services. Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.
